THIS DAY IN 1984: METALLICA RELEASES "RIDE THE LIGHTNING"

On July 27th, 1984, METALLICA released their second album "Ride the Lightning" through Megaforce Records. After the almighty debut "Kill Em All" the band refined their sound without loosing any of their violence. And they achieved new levels with "Ride the Lightning". Opening with the powerful "Fight Fire with Fire" and then the title track, here we have an album that is flawless. Masterpieces like "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Face to Black", coexist with "Creeping Death" and "Trapped Under Ice". The line-up that included the great late bassist Cliff Burton was finding the way that will find its climax on the next album "Master of Puppets". 36 years of this absolute masterpiece.

CULT BURIAL RELEASE "CULT BURIAL"

PRESS RELEASE:

CULT BURIAL - CULT BURIAL
Self-released
6 November 2020

Rarely does an extreme metal band drop out of nowhere with a fully formed sound, and yet Cult Burial do just that. While their name may imply another group hopping on the dime-a-dozen OSDM revival trend, this London group quickly show that there is a lot more than meets the eye on their self-titled début, coming hot off the back of a well-received two-track EP.

The smooth sepulchral blend flits across the spectrum; while ostensibly a modern black/death metal outfit, Cult Burial have no qualms about incorporating the crushing low-end of doom metal and post-metal. Other individual tracks branch out even further from the formula - lead single “Moribund” draws from old school death metal’s HM2-drenched tremolo, while “Plague” and “Chaos” stretch into progressive territory and showcase a real strength in dynamic songwriting - not a moment is wasted.

Aside from the songwriting, the execution of each track is magnificent. Simon Langofrd's composition pairs effortlessly with César Moreira's varied vocal delivery - potent growls and twisted snarls collide with the daring range of styles employed, from the hefty groove in opener “Dethroner” reminiscent of Belphegor to the full black/death/doom amalgamation that rounds out “Sorrow”. The lyrics, which eschew the expected Satan-worshipping traits, instead turn inward and speak on topics related to death and a sense of purpose (or a lack thereof) in captivating detail.

Despite having only two tracks to their name prior to this release, Cult Burial have already begun to build a name for themselves - No Clean Singing pegged “Sorrow” as “further proof that Cult Burial is a band to watch closely”, and it won’t be long before this album starts turning heads and causing a stir.

PAZUZU RELEASE "REVENANT OF BLASPHEMIES"

PRESS RELEASE:
PAZUZU - "Revenant Of Blasphemies"
Dunkelheit Produktionen - CD | DIGITAL (out now) | LP (26Th July 2020)
Death/Doom Metal from Costa Rica

Coming from the scorching land of Costa Rica and influenced by the movie with the same name and also by bands such as CIANIDE, WINTER, DECOMPOSED and I’d even dare to say NUNSLAUGHTER, the Doom Death metal band PAZUZU present for the very first time their 2017 debut demo “Revenant of Blasphemies” on vinyl and CD.

Originally released on limited edition tape and cd by Psychogrind records, this obscure recording immerses the avid listener into the corridors of stench, decay and the uselessness of the Christian dogma and shows the imminent fate of the bastard manking at the hands of a failed God and the welcoming of Death as the only possible fate to come...

Mastered and refurbished in 2019 by Dan Lowndes at Resonance Studio- UK for an enhanced audio experience, this demo is a Tour de Force through the corridors of the asphyxiating and claustrophobic atmospheres of Doom Metal but well balanced with the dynamics and minimalism of Archaic and rhythmic Death Metal. Three songs plus intro and outro which set the pace for the doom that is to come…

Recorded and mixed from Oct-Nov 2016 by Tomil in Curridabat, Costa Rica at Grotesque Studios. PYC 2016. Mastering by Dan Lowndes at Resonance Sound Studio (UK), September 2019. All music and Lyrics by PAZUZU. Additional backing vocals on "The Fallacy..." by Ricardo Gargor. Artworks by Giovanni. Design and slayout by B. Mors. PALACES RELEASE "HELLAS CHASMA"

PRESS RELEASE:
Following a six-year hiatus, Atlanta noise trio PALACES is excited to release their new album Hellas Chasma.  It features Jeremy Weeks, a.k.a. “Bumpy Bronson,” on bass and vocals alongside founding members Jonathan Balsamo (drums) and Eric Searle (guitar/vocals).

So, what is the reformed outfit offering up after all this time?  Choppy, spastic rhythms. Spaced-out, haunting magnetic shrieks. Blistering hits at breakneck speed. Anguish and fear, belted out until running on fumes. Labor-intensive is one way to describe the effort on display in Hellas Chasma.  Short of the prevailing rigmarole that's associated with the heavier side of guitar music, PALACES are more likely to give color and character to their sound than to call it metal, noise or hardcore.

All the agonizing, all the dismay, all the faults of simply being are melded into a blitzkrieg of sonic assaults and morose mayhem. Hellas Chasma finds the Atlanta triumvirate rarely letting up. The band's tone shifts from melodic undertones to soulful shouts to angry dissonance as it traverses so many states of the human experience. It seems almost anyone can find common ground with PALACES.

Hellas Chasma will be released on September 18 2020.
