30 YEARS AGO: NOCTURNUS RELEASED "THE KEY"

 

This month marks the 30th anniversary of a really underrated masterpiece: NOCTURNUS´debut album "The Key". Featuring former MORBID ANGEL drummer Mike Drowning delivering also the vocals, NOCTURNUS was also one of the first death metal bands to feature keyboards. And here we had Louis Panzer with his keyboards all over the compositions and really high in the mix. And also the technical guitar riffs and solos created by Mike Davis and Sean McNenney. Some curiosities: Jeff Estes's bass tracks may have been 100% recorded by Mike Davis: based on a Mike Browning interview Jeff showed up to the recording already drunk and hardly able to track the songs, stating also that Mike recorded most of the bass tracks, however it is unknown what tracks Jeff recorded, if any. Side B of the album forms a concept, where time travellers go back to the birth of Jesus Christ and prevent it, thus erasing religion. The band stressed that it's meant to be anti-religion in general, and not anti-Christian. Below you can check the video for the track "Lake of Fire".

IESCHURE STREAM "COLD STARS OF ETERNITY"

 

One woman black metal band IESCHURE is streaming the new EP "Cold Stars of Eternity" in the band´s Bandcamp site (check below). The EP is IESCHURE´s second release (the first one was the debut album "The Shadow" from 2017). VERITAS were formed in 2012 by guitarist Greg Wenk, in Kansas City, KS. In 2017, Veritas were able to get Mark Zonder (FATES WARNING, WARLORD, SPIRITS OF FIRE) to record drums for their 4 song EP which was released in February 2018. It received great reviews and airplay worldwide, being compared to such bands as early Queensryche, Fates Warning and Dream Theater.

ANONYMUS RELEASE VIDEO FOR "BICHO LOCO"

Canadian thrash legends ANONYMUS are have been having a busy summer during these Covid days. Unleashing their latest album "La Bestia" via label Bam&co Heavy this past June along with launching their own IPA beer (La Microbrasserie Le Fermentor), named in honour of their first Spanish release. The band is sharing their next music video "Bicho Loco" translated to "crazy bug" in English. It was directed by Mathieu Charest who previously created their music videos 'Suffer The Consequences', and with Mononc Serge 'Sous-Marin Brun', 'L'Age de Biere', 'Woodstock en Beauce'. The video also stars well known Quebec actor Martin Dubreuil and follows his character as he descends into insanity from being his own worst enemy.

The band adds about the track: "A song about a virus, cancer, a disease, something that eats you from inside, that comes and goes without warning. You don’t want that thing in your life, but no matter what, it’s there and you have to live and deal with it. Resonates with what is definitely occurring worldwide as of this moment."

On June 12th, Anonymus released their latest album "La Bestia" via label Bam&co Heavy. Known for their discography of both French and English releases, “La Bestia” is their first full length that is completely in Spanish. You may be asking why a Spanish album? Well since 3/4 of the band speaks Spanish. Drummer Carlos Araya is Chilean born, and Oscar (Lead Vocals and Bass) and Dan Souto (Guitars and Backing Vocals) are sons of Spanish immigrants it was time to make one.

The tracks on “La Bestia” were produced mainly by guitarist Jef Fortin as well as Colin Richardson who also produced 1999's 'Instinct' and Jean-Francois Dagenais (Kataklysm) who produced 2006's 'Chapter Chaos Begins'. The album also features the bilingual song “Violencia Versus Violence” with the participation of Carlos Maldos of Lethal Creation (MX) and Arno Dhenain Le Bourhis of Black Bomb A (FR) along with a second bilingual track “Tierra” with Marco Calliari singing in Italian.

With over 2.5 million streams on Spotify, ANONYMUS is showing no signs of slowing down. Fans of thrash metal standbys such as Slayer and Testament will no doubt be intrigued by this new offering.
