Twisted into Form is the second album from San Francisco, California thrash metal band, Forbidden. It features one line-up change from their debut – 1988's Forbidden Evil – with Tim Calvert replacing Glen Alvelais on guitar. The result is a more melodic and progressive affair with many acoustic interludes and clearer production, but less of a raw edge than its predecessor. It is their last album with drummer Paul Bostaph before he joined Slayer in 1992 when Forbidden was on hiatus.

NUCLEAR ASSAULT RE-RELEASE "GAME OVER" ON VINYL

PRESS RELEASE:

Leaving Anthrax to their destiny, bassist (and co-founder) Dan Lilker formed another east coast group Nuclear Assault, taking 'Thrax roadie John Connelly with him on vocals and guitar. On Game Over, whilst drawing from Lilker's contributions to Fistful of Metal and Speak English or Die, Nuclear Assault debuts a delightfully ugly thrash, crossover and speed metal hybrid dripping with humour and 80s paranoia.

The majority of the songs here are uncomplicated and uncompromising thrashers. Despite the reliance on speed and simplicity of songwriting, the album has a lot going for it, where similar attempts by other bands usually falter. Considering the unlikely appointment of Connelly, his pipes are memorable; made-up of guttural but melodic yells and screams, and mixed with a clarity you wouldn't expect. Secondly, besides the lengthy "Brain Death", each track is below the four minutes mark, without running the risk of overstretching material or overindulgence. Musicianship is of high quality, keeping things relatively tight considering the average tempo, and the frenzied soloing cuts like a knife. The album is also neatly broken up by the S.O.D.-esque crossover skits "Hang the Pope" and "My America", the mid-tempo bouncer "Nuclear War" and the aforementioned closing epic "Brain Death". Oh, and don't forget "Mr. Softee Theme", their rendition of which closes side "A" on a cheeky note.

Faults are few and far between; the skits are amusing but hardly essential, and the otherwise brilliant "After the Holocaust" briefly makes use of the painfully generic (E-G-A-Bb) riff sequence which was surely overused even by '86. You can knock a few points off for interchangeable lyrical content; there are few stand outs (the single verse of "Betrayal" and the cannibalistic surgeons of "Brain Death"), but the album succeeds thematically on the whole.

As far as debuts in thrash go, Game Over is a classic: plenty of room for the band to develop their sound and ideas, but a consistent and entertaining addition to the burgeoning scene.

DEMON KING RELEASE "THE FINAL TYRANNY"

PRESS RELEASE:

Demon King

The Final Tyranny

The Artisan Era

12 February 2021

Newly formed blackened technical death metal trio Demon King is eager to unleash their explosive debut EP, The Final Tyranny. Set for release on February 12th, 2021 via The Artisan Era. The otherworldly cover art for The Final Tyranny was created by Justin si-Set Abraham known for his work with Equipoise, Inanimate Existence, Singularity, etc.

Formed in 2019, Demon King is the comeback project of prominent original Enfold Darkness guitarist Matt Brown after stepping away from playing music for a number of years. He is joined by technical wizards Malcolm Pugh (Inferi, ex-Enfold Darkness) on Bass and Jack Blackburn (ex-Inferi, ex-Vital Remains, ex-Enfold Darkness) on Drums. Together the incredibly talented trio aims to be one of the reigning champs of the death metal world.

Demon King's multi-faceted musical foundation is built upon each member's high level of skill along with their combined chemistry forged from playing in various bands together over the years. Both of those crucial factors intertwine to allow the group to create some truly masterful and ruthless music on The Final Tyranny. Across four dense tracks, The Final Tyranny deftly combines and shifts on a dime between technical death metal, black metal, and melodic death metal in order to create a sound all their own.

Demon King - The Final Tyranny is strongly recommended for fans of Abigor, Arsis, Dimmu Borgir, Enfold Darkness, Inferi, Naglfar, Necrophagist, Obscura, Old Man’s Child.

Demon King's Matt Brown comments on the release of The Final Tyranny

"For this initial release, I wanted to showcase what I felt were the best elements of my writing during my time with Enfold Darkness...but stepped up and refined. In many ways, it’s a continuation of that early sound. It’s all fast and thrashy, yet lush with melody. Lyrically it’s similar too, with end-times eschatology being a major focus."

ABIOTIC PREMIERE "GRIEF EATER, TEAR DRINKER" SINGLE

PRESS RELEASE:

Recently re-emerged technical death metal outfit Abiotic are back with their third full-length, Ikigai. Set for release on Friday, February 12th, 2021 via The Artisan Era.

While going on hiatus does not necessarily mean a group's best days are behind them, often this rings true, yet Abiotic eagerly buck that trend with their finest effort yet on Ikigai. Abiotic states, "We also leaned on some classical and eastern style instrumentation, along with some progressive and jazzy elements."

Ikigai also boasts numerous killer guest spots from musicians such as Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder), Chaney Crabb (Entheos), Brandon Ellis (The Black Dahlia Murder), Scott Carstairs (Fallujah), Jared Smith (Archspire), and Jonathan Carpenter (ex-The Contortionist). Abiotic have dug deep and hit a new apex and the end result of their evolution is astounding on Ikigai.

Today the band partnered with Toilet Ov Hell to premiere "Grief Eater, Tear Drinker" which features guest vocals from former The Contortionist vocalist Jonathan Carpenter. The launch of today's single is paired with an eye-popping music video that is bound to blow you away.
