Exploring a very different sound than on his other compositions, Federico Lucchi delves deeper into the vast world of heavy metal. While previous albums like "Journey to the Other Land" and "The Forges of Ingur" were very much in the melodic power-metal line, this new release drifts closer to heavier styles like technical metal and slow death metal. Both musical/rhythmical arrangements and vocal technique significantly changed in comparison to "Forest of Shadows", so far Skycrater's heaviest album.

Just like on "Tale of the Frozen Valley", the artwork is based on a detail of a Chinese traditional-style painting by Claudio Daniele Lucchi (Federico's elder brother). "Lothar's Soliloquy" is based on the painting titled "The Keeper of the Gates of Time".
