Kurja is a one-man blackened folk metal project. Kurja is inspired by Finnish nature, folklore stories and fantasy literature. Jussi's soundscape is clearly influenced by the music of computer and video games at the turn of the millennium, mixed with Finnish folk metal. With his compositions, Jussi hopes to evoke ancient wistfulness and powerful nostalgia, as well as heroic strength!

MAGNI was created by Clint Listing out of a Until the Sky Dies session (Dark Post Doom Metal), as he was looking to bring in ideas of his old project As All Die (Martial Industrial meets Neo Folk) and the love for bands like Tenhi, Antimatter and Of the Wand and the Moon.

 MAGNI has brought Clint's life long belief in Asatru with that dark gothic folk style mixed with black metal. The name comes from a son of Thor and you will feel that heathen element throughout. A full-length album was announced for 2021.

What a CD !! A perfect combination of brutality, originality and arrangements. From the start with "Y Draig Goch" the band starts showing interesting arrangements (specially on the keyboards and samples section that sound like coming from a movie soundtrack)...and who we have behind this madness?? Yes, it is Martin Schirenc himself!! For those who don´t know him he was one of the brains behind Pungent Stench one of Austria´s main metal bands in the late eighties and early nineties.  But the music here is completely differnt from the one that he used to do with his old band, here everything is done to create this kind of baroque death metal, full of ornaments, complex harmonies, outstanding arrangements while retaining the brutality, that is manifested mainly through the heavy guitars and his vocals. Martin has reveales himself as a great composer here and he is in charge of all the instruments except for the drums. The lyrics are done by his wife Elena. A future classic. REVIEW: FINNTROLL - JAKTENS TID

 

FINNTROLL - JAKTENS TID (Century Media - 2001): Finntroll practices what they call "Trollish Hoedown Metal" . They are from Finlandia and their music is amazing and their originality really susprised me. Voices closer to death or black metal with guitar riffs that are very rhythmic (in fact in the first song "Födosagan" it reminded me some typical music from Finland), keyboards used in the way of power metal bands with a lot of solos and bases (like Jens johansson or Tuomas from Nightwish). Really interesting. You can listen in their tracks a lot of melodies that could have been taken from nordic folklore, like in "Slaget Vid Blodsälv" or "Skogens Hämnd". I think that this bands bings new atmospheres to black / death metal, which were searching for bands like this with a lot of originality and that show once more that putting melodies and subtle elements in their music does not mean losing strength.. And they say that this project arose from a night of too much drinking …I want right now what this finnish drink!! Songs to recommend: All the CD. It is really spectacular.
