"I Remain in Darkness" brings back the 40-minute long EP trend to death/doom metal, in reverence to the insurmountable "Pentecost III".
Another concept work, if not in plot like our debut album, but definitely in spirit, which tracks the emotional downhill journey of an individual (who could be any one of us) across five new Athanasy songs - two originals plus three covers.
"A Throbbing Grudge" - The anger and disgust towards our rotting modern society and its every manifestation, and the lack of faith in any kind of future redemption. The individual struggles against being coaxed to take part in this decadent circus on a constant basis.
"I Remain in Darkness" - A depression strike against the tyranny of happiness. After rejecting the contemporary world, the individual finds odd sanctuary as he nests himself in a drape of morbidity, stubbornly refusing to be brought back into the light.
"In Darkness Let Me Dwell" - A cappella rendition of the John Dowland song, originally published in 1610. A plea of the individual to the helping hands that keep on reaching and tugging at him. He seeks not to be alive anymore, begging instead to "let me living, die". This serves as the bridge between the two "sides" of the EP.
"Obscured" - Cover of the seminal Celtic Frost track. The climax of sorrow. The individual peers down at the endless abyss and finds solace in the blackness below. His body and soul writhe in the throes of terminal despair.
"If I Ever Feel Better" - Cover of the famous Phoenix tune. A glint of hope. There is someone who cares a little deeper for the individual, and he/she might turn the low tide, but it's still too soon to know. The mind is still hostage to all the ghosts, and the path of recovery will be a long one - "When it's all over I'll let you know".
