Besieged might be the most perfectly named band in metal, but for the slight implication that the band themselves are the ones being besieged. Anyone who has listened to their long-ago debut album, Victims Beyond All Help, knows that is very much not the case. This is music that does not take breaths, does not stop for rest, does not slow down, and shows no mercy.

Coming out of wintry Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, Besieged has always sounded a little more South American, a little more European, and occasionally a little more Bay Area than their geography might imply. From any random song you can tell that the brothers who make up the band have listened to plenty of Beneath the Remains, given the raw vocals and brisk thrash tempos on display. But there is a jagged anarchy to their riff construction and frequent tempo changes that suggests they have absorbed plenty from European-style death metal as well. And the occasional shout-along chorus is straight out of the Bay's thrash playbook.

Twelve years have elapsed between their debut and this new album. But it takes only a few seconds of the very first track to disabuse anyone of the notion that the passage of time has slowed down the band any, or dulled their attack in the slightest. Violence Beyond All Reason is as perfectly named as the band themselves, in the end: this is pure audio violence, and does the thrash genre proud.

CONSUMPTION RELEASE "NECROTIC LUST"

PRESS RELEASE:

Consumption

Necrotic Lust

Hammerheart Records

26 August 2022

A Symposium of Sickness that leaves no artery untorn, guest vocals by Jeff Walker (Carcass)! Classic old school Grinding Death Metal!

Grinding Death metal is not dead yet and it’s future is here in the form of Sweden’s Consumption. They gave us all a nice taste of what was to come on their debut “Recursive Definitions of Suppuration” that received good reviews worldwide, but no one could have expected what was to come.

Consumption is a new Swedish band producing crushing Carcass influenced Grind/Death and on “Necrotic Lust” have stepped up to make the album Carcass never made after “Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious”. This project is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Håkan Stuvemark, famous for his works with a huge bunch of extreme Metal bands (and the most notable from that list is Wombbath). And he invited the experienced drummer Jon Skäre to complete his band and go for the next level.

Consumption’s grinding Death Metal with eerie melodies sound like Carcass in their 90’s prime yet they also have a distinct own touch. And on “Necrotic Lust” they invited Jeff Walker (of Carcass) to join in and Jeff did a killer job on delivering some guest vocals.

The overall sound of the album is now upgraded, unpolished yet well produced just like it should be if you deliver high class Death Metal that grinds a bit as well. The array of vocal techniques and the way passages differ in speed and intensity give “ Necrotic Lust” the extra finishing touch.

Key sales & marketing points:

- Digi-CD comes as a deluxe edition digipack with 3 bonustracks

REZET RELEASE "NEW WORLD MURDER"

PRESS RELEASE:

Release Date: 27th May 2022

FFO: Annihilator, Traitor, Overkill

Location: Schleswig, Germany

When Rezet´s most recent album Truth in Between effectively turned out to be a commercial nonstarter due to a certain virus, northern Germany´s finest in thrash quickly had to separate the wheat from the chaff… albeit not so much voluntarily as out of necessity. After amicably separating from guitarist Heiko Musolf and bass player Bjarne Otto, main composer, guitarist and singer Ricky Wagner shortly wondered whether he should put the band to rest but then decided differently. Contrarily, he set out to leave nothing to coincidence anymore, opting for a “no compromise” and do-it-yourself approach by continuing Rezet without label-support for the time being. This resolve triggered a burst of creativity, resulting in New World Murder, a four-track EP both revisiting the group´s roots as well as hinting towards a brighter future. Wagner and drummer Bastian “attt” Santen recruited four-stringer Lorenz Kandolf and second guitarist Jan-Erik Fischer to self-record three new songs as well as a flamboyant cover of Deep Purple´s proto metal classic ´Fireball´.

The material was then mixed and mastered by the band´s trusted sound engineer Eike Freese (amongst others Heaven Shall Burn, Helloween and, indeed, Deep Purple), with ´The Devil´s Bride´ being a perfect opener, blending acute Motörhead vibes with Ricky´s charismatic snarl and an almost Annihilator-esque playfulness, highlight the razor-sharp precision of Rezet´s new line-up. The rhythmically diverse, subtly melodic ´Dead End Walking´ is barbed with one of the catchiest riffs you may hear in 2022 and topped of by an atmospheric instrumental bridge whereas staccato earworm ´Alien Noises´ – featuring guest vocals by none other than German thrash pioneers Destruction´s front man Schmier – hits home even faster and will grace the soundtrack of the movie “Total Thrash”.

So there you have it: four smashers that sounds unpredictable and familiar alike, reflecting Ricky´s hands-on attitude. “In a way,” he concludes, “I see New World Murder in the spirit of Metallica, who also keep setting new goals for themselves, shedding their skin on a constant basis. Eventually, we reclaimed our joy in what we do simply by doing what we love without fulfilling expectations.” Old is the new New – so watch out and perk your ears for “The Great Rezet”!
