PRESS RELEASE:
WITCHER – ӦRӦKLÉT
LABEL: FILOSOFEM RECORDS
RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 2025
All that we were may have faded from the concrete streets, choked in smoke, our identity fractured and fragmented by the onslaught of modernity…but far from the boxes that enclose us and the algorithms that dictate our desires and direct our thoughts, beneath the trees, on the mountain tops, in the arms of the undying winds that traversed the world when the old gods walked, in the light of the moon and the dark of the shadows…we are eternal.
WitcheR emerged, as if from the pages of Hungarian folklore, back in 2010 and have since crafted an array of bewitching music, steeped in the history and mythology of their homeland. 2022s Lélekharang was a pivotal moment in the band’s career, lifting WitcheR to a new level creatively and it was followed by the remarkable 2024 EP of classical music adaptations entitled Boszorkányszimfóniák. Now it is time to unveil the next chapter in the tale of WitcheR – Ӧröklét…
“This record is not merely music — it is a gateway. Whoever crosses it will never be the same again. It is a moment of realization, when one understands that everything fades… and yet, everything remains eternal.” – WitcheR
Ӧröklét begins with the rich, haunting keys and powerful, mid-paced riffs of ‘Ӧrökség’ (Heritage) and with its air of majesty, melancholy and reflection, entwined in mystery and moonlight, it seems steeped in the very essence of all that word implies. Listening to WitcheR is like slipping into a dream and that has never been more true than with Ӧröklét. ‘Szélhozó’ (Windbringer) overflows with a spellbinding romanticism and the dual vocals of Gere Karola and Neubauer Roland – rather than dominating the music – slip between its textured layers like dryad spirits between the trees. This is WitcheR at their most beautiful and evocative. ‘Röghöz kötött’ (Soil-bound) and stately title track ‘Ӧröklét’ (Eternity) both move with the measured steps of medieval dances, courtly and chivalric. They draw out vast depths of emotion, in such contrast to the shallowness of modern society. With its weight, value and artistic worth WitcheR create music that stands outside of time. The album concludes with a reworking of Franz Schubert’s ‘Piano Trio No. 2 - Andante con moto’, which shows the gift that WitcheR have for interpreting classical pieces with respect for and understanding of the original music, whilst still transforming these masterful compositions into something entirely WitcheR in character. Something that could be crass in the hands of another band becomes breathtaking through the application of WitcheR’s subtle sorcery. With Ӧröklét, WitcheR have continued down their characterful path of atmospheric dark metal, becoming ever more unique and moving further beyond imitation; a precious and irreplaceable jewel in the world of imaginative, passionate music.
Adorned in the enthralling sepia toned imagery of Balázs Pénzes of Grafit & Hamu Artworks (Korp, Vrag, Siculicidium etc), who also provided the visual elements for Lélekharang and Boszorkányszimfóniák, the digital, cassette and CD versions of Ӧröklét were released by Filosofem Records on November 4th and the vinyl edition will follow, from Beverina Productions, coming late November. Let your eyes close and feel the world slip away as WitcheR lead you down forest paths, past lakes of crystal waters to a place where magic is in the air and reality is all that it is meant to be.
