Never hurrying, his steps eat up the endless miles of eternity; beneath the boughs of weeping trees, beside the grey waters of the river of forgetting, through the ever-burning, sulphurous flames. Timorous, diminutive devils dance and flitter about his feet while larger prey watch from dark ravines and from behind curtain falls of lava – ashamed and afraid. He passes through the halls of silence, the blackened palaces of the fallen and the damned. He is the Hell Walker and sword in hand, with unflinching purpose and unwavering belief, he draws ever nearer to the tarnished throne of blustering arrogance and whispered regret…

Hell Walker is the debut album from Tyraels Ascension, the incredible new band summoned into being by guitarists Sean Searls of Bury Your Burdens and Kevin McNeil of Deathbreaker. From the very first song, ‘The Prophecy’, Hell Walker seizes you in its iron grip and there’s no escape. The robust, relentless vocals drive the song forward, riding on the powerful, driving rhythms while the twin guitars weave intricate webs of gold around the steel juggernaut. Like the spinning knives of an elegant assassin the melodious guitars dart and dance with breathtaking precision, lifting the sound of Tyraels Ascension to another level. Just listen to the solos in second track ‘Descent’ – this is the stuff of metal dreams! Heading deeper into the album the sheer strength of the song writing becomes ever more apparent, with the uplifting and superbly structured ‘The Art Of War’, the dynamic, imaginative ‘When The Hero Dies’ – a track fizzing with effervescent energy – and first single ‘Holy Fire’ with its furious pace and intensity and effortlessly smooth shifting between tempos, forming a stunning heart to this enthralling collection. The quality of musicianship, the dramatic atmosphere, the towering stature of the songs is maintained right to the final note of Hell Walker, making it one of the most accomplished and impressive debut albums of recent years.

DEFYING RELEASE "WADERA"

 

PRESS RELEASE:

Defying was formed in 2008. Within 15 years of existing they released two records: "Nexus Artificial" (2014, LP) and "The Splinter of Light We Misread" (2016, EP) which include Joy Division “New Dawn Fades” cover. They combine a variety of genres in their music: post- and progressive metal with sludge, black metal and elements or ambient.

Earlier this year, February 23, 2024, Defying released brand new studio album titled "Wadera" which was released by Italian label These Hands Melt (buy CD). Music was self-recorded by Tomasz Semeniuk, and later mixed & mastered by Filip Hałucha at Heinrich House Studio (Azarath, Behemoth, Entropia, Obscure Sphinx). Cover artwork was done by Paweł Siemaszko.

"Wadera" is a concept album inspired by the Polish horror film "The Wolf" (1983) and the short story "Wadera" (1977) by Jerzy Gierałtowski. The album is a musical story about revenge from beyond the grave, told in the spirit of dark romanticism.

After well-received album "Wadera", Olsztyn post-metal band Defying published a live session where they perform selected songs from the previous-mentioned album.

Tomasz comments: "Just like our music, the form of the recording itself is unusual. Filmed in one continuous take, without cuts or corrections. The authors of the picture are the duo Ćmy i Paprocie: Natalia Semeniuk behind the camera and I, responsible for the lights and post-production of the shots. Szymon Stadniczenko, the band's guitarist, supervised the sound. The recording may be a foretaste of what the band performs live, and soon you will be able to hear us, among others: at the Summer Dying Loud festival in Aleksandrów Łódzki [PL]."

Firing on all cylinders from the get-go, their relentless brand of pulverizing guitars and punishing drums with intricate bass lines cut only by monstrous vocals spew forth. Monolithically mixed to grant us the most viscerally lacerating blows of Death Metal might, those who salivate for true morbidity will revel in the ecstatic putridity that immediately grips you. From the gut-wrenching rhythmic torment to the phenomenal soloing, aside from sheer brutality, Hyperdontia have technical abilities that far surpass most of their contemporaries while never feeling obnoxious with their utilization. Some utterly mad bass guitar moments or ripping solos show a band who clearly know their way around a fretboard while the consistently savage drumming doesn’t let the rhythmic battery relent. As we heard on their prior works; Hyperdontia are a confident and unforgiving entity and that continues here.

Although they are inarguably merciless and intense, there is such dynamic strength on this new record from the maelstroms of grooves to the more otherworldly sections, all tied together to plunge headlong into abhorrent chaos. Barbaric and yet precise, each blow lands with ferocity and yet a cleverness to every moment is present too.
