2. House of The Black Moon

3. The Locust Scar

As with many Finnish death metal pioneers, the band incorporates a distinctive sense of weirdness, blending diverse influences in crafting a sound that’s unmistakably their own.

“The backbone is death metal,” states vocalist Kari Kankaanpää, “but we’ve never shied away from exploring new inspirations and influences, which shape the unique edge synonymous with SEPULCHRAL CURSE. Music needs to be dark, heavy and furious!”

Crimson Moon Evocations marks the band’s debut with Dark Descent Records, a partnership that feels both natural and profoundly significant: “Dark Descent Records has always held a special place in my heart. To join their renowned roster with this record is a true honour.”

This new collaboration reflects the SEPULCHRAL CURSE's unwavering momentum, arriving merely two years after their bold leap forward with Abhorrent Dimensions.

“With Abhorrent Dimensions we truly began to find our own sound and style, and Crimson Moon Evocations takes an even deeper dive into who we are and crystallises the essence of the Sepulchral Curse sound.”

To capture their vision, the band returned to Finland’s Oxroad Studios to work with producer Tomi Uusitupa, whose influence has been pivotal. “Tomi is like our sixth member. He chooses the projects he works with carefully, as he pours a tremendous amount of love and personal input to each record he does.”

Complete with stunning artwork by Mark Erskine, the album is not just a milestone but a statement: SEPULCHRAL CURSE has ascended to the pinnacle of blackened death metal!

“Stay cursed. Onward the legions!,” Kari concludes.

Crimson Moon Evocations was recorded and mixed by Tomi Uusitupa and mastered by Are Kangus.

Copenhagen’s PHRENELITH emerges from the darkness once again with their third and most unholy full-length offering, Ashen Womb. Nine sinister funeral marches, draped in a bleak and blackened atmosphere, provide a lens into the forthcoming end of times.

Ashen Womb Tracklist:

1) Noemata

2) Astral Larvae

3) A Husk Wrung Dry

4) Lithopaedion

5) Nebulae

6) Stagnated Blood

7) Sphageion

8) Chrysopoeia

9) Ashen Womb

A droning tone fades in, opening up a slow dirge that eases us into the apocalyptic explosion of death that will follow for the next 40 minutes. Where guitars anxiously scale the fretboard & weave morose melodies while drums pound and smash with the force of the Chicxulub impactor. Interspersed between the infernal, seismic, blackened stampedes are droning psychedelia & ambient noise interludes, immersing us further into the ever-growing darkness. But there are also moments of overwhelming beauty, like on tracks "Nebulae" and the eponymous "Ashen Womb," where PHRENELITH indulge in the repetition of their sinister melodies, layering Serpentinian guitars atop each other, spinning a web of desolate harmonies around the listener.

With Ashen Womb, PHRENELITH gives us the foretold sound of the apocalypse, but whether it’s a warning or a celebration is yet undecided.

Stream PHRENELITH on Spotify and Apple Music.

MITOCHONDRIAL SUN RELEASE "MACHINE DIALECTICS"

PRESS RELEASE:

Mitochondrial Sun “Machine Dialectics” (Full-Length)

Release date: February 21st, 2025

Country: Sweden

Label: Inertial Music

Genre: Electronic

Format: Digipak, Vinyl, Digital

Niklas Sundin, the former guitarist of Grammy-winning Swedish metal band Dark Tranquillity, returns with a new Mitochondrial Sun album. Machine Dialectics will be released on February 21, 2025 via Inertial Music.

After the orchestral debut album and the industrial intensity of the blastbeat-tinged follow-up Sju Pulsarer, the new addition to the ever-expanding Mitochondrial Sun universe again sees the project steering towards new horizons. Sparse and minimalistic, Machine Dialectics features ten exploratory and playful compositions with plenty of suggestive earworm melodies and warm vintage sounding synths that evoke a sense of nostalgia and wonder. The mastering was expertly handled by Anders Lagerfors at Nacksving Studios, who utilized his vast arsenal of analog equipment to give the album an immersive and atmospheric sound.

Says Sundin: "With the new album, I wanted to get away from the overtly cinematic and epic soundscapes of the earlier releases and instead explore more low-fi territories. Most of the songs consist of just a handful of elements, and there's a sense of improvisation and unpredictability throughout, as if we're hearing the music come to life in real-time. There's a certain naivety to the melodies, and in a way Machine Dialectics is presenting a "magical" childhood idea of space exploration - simple, adventurous and blissfully unconcerned with cosmic cataclysms and existential risks. The music is still instrumental, and as usual I prefer to only hint at concepts and ideas and leave it up to the listener to interpret the work and fill in the blanks with whatever their own imagination can conjure."

Machine Dialectics is probably the weirdest album in the Mitochondrial Sun pantheon so far, and one is recommended to listen to the whole album in one go, following the correct running order. The individual songs aren't designed for standalone single consumption but are more akin to chapters in a book and make the most sense in the context of the other tracks.

For this reason there won't be any separate singles ahead of the album release. Two songs can be streamed on the Mitochondrial Sun Bandcamp page and the Inertial Music website, and more material is previewed in a teaser video.

Tracklist:

1. To Those That Dared to Dream (06:04)

2. SPECULOOS-3 B (02:14)

3. The Fate of Animals (04:16)

5. The Flickering Horizon (04:44)

7. Trilobite Dreams (03:28)

8. Eternal Undulations (03:24)

PATCHWORK RELEASE NEW SINGLE: "THE VULTURE"

PRESS RELEASE:

The Rockford-based metal band PATCHWORK has today released the first single, "The Vulture," from their highly anticipated upcoming album Scars. Available on all major streaming platforms, "The Vulture" sets the tone for what promises to be a deeply introspective and powerful album.

"The Vulture" is a track that combines intense guitar riffs with compelling lyrical narratives, embodying the band's signature blend of thrash and progressive metal. The song explores themes of loss and the relentless passage of time, illustrating the emotional and existential weight these topics carry.

"'The Vulture' is the most diverse song on the album from start to finish, beginning frantically and burning through the lyrics early, then slowing down abruptly to a calm acoustic interlude, before thundering back up to a powerful solo and an aggressive ending."

Recorded at TVR Studios in Rockford and produced by Dave Caruana, the track features the intricate guitar work PATCHWORK is known for, alongside the powerful vocals of Heith Gruner. "The Vulture" also showcases the first collaboration from the album, incorporating a solo that punctuates the song's heavy yet melodic approach.

The release of "The Vulture" comes ahead of the full album release of Scars, scheduled for May 15, 2025. PATCHWORK has crafted an album that delves into the scars we carry, using their music to explore the healing process and the marks left behind.

About PATCHWORK:

PATCHWORK is a dynamic metal band hailing from Rockford, IL, known for their aggressive blend of thrash, power, and progressive metal. Since their inception in 2010, PATCHWORK has captivated audiences with their intense soundscapes and thought-provoking lyrics. Composed of Heith Gruner on vocals, Brad Carlson on guitars, Liza Sanchez on bass, and Dave Caruana on drums, the band has forged a unique path in the metal scene, distinguished by their musical complexity and deep thematic content.

The origins of PATCHWORK trace back to a group of seasoned musicians looking to reflect on their personal experiences and the broader human condition through music. The name "PATCHWORK" itself symbolizes the diverse elements that each member brings to the band, stitched together to form a cohesive and resilient artistic tapestry. Over the years, PATCHWORK has undergone several lineup changes, each time emerging with a renewed focus and energy that have enriched their sound and artistic direction, with Dave and Brad remaining as integral songwriters and collaborators.

Their debut album, Exit Wounds, released in 2015, introduced PATCHWORK to the world, showcasing their ability to blend melodic precision with raw power. The album was well-received, establishing the band as a formidable presence in the metal community. Since then, PATCHWORK has continued to evolve, exploring new themes and musical territories with each subsequent release.

The band’s latest album, Scars, is a profound exploration of the scars—both physical and emotional—that life’s trials leave behind. The album reflects the band's journey, marked by personal losses and the challenges of the ever-changing music landscape. Through Scars, PATCHWORK delves into the process of healing and the strength found in vulnerability, themes that resonate deeply in their meticulously crafted tracks.
