In "The Dark Hymns", DARK RITES shape their music with the highest proficiency in unrelenting-intensity phrasal-riff death metal that vary its texture and pauses inertia long enough to ram a militant and uncompromising aesthetic down the throats of their listeners.
Rippling textures of chords thrust home like a battlefield execution form the raw skin from which this band twist phrases that contort, transform and rediscover their origins as they mutate over the course of a song.
DARK RITES transforms a handful of notes into a spindly arcology of ideas which clarify in a resolving riff.
The gavel-beat of fuzzblasted vocals pulses alongside a loping bass and rigidly sliding speeding guitar tremolo, forming a seething mass of impenetrable diatribe which alights above the head of a listener like a killing mood. While this band is most impressive on this album, and when excellent bring out the ferocity of Death metal with an unrelenting barrage of old school death metal technique, this music even at its most inflected is nearly monochromatic in its continuous rage.

Born of the Lafayette, Louisiana heavy music scene, experimental duo RADIANT KNIFE has been laying down their unique brand of riffage since 2016. With Greg Travasos on drums/percussion and Stephen Sheppert on guitar, vocals, and synth, the band creates a monstrous sonic landscape influenced by Mahavishnu Orchestra, Yes, Zeni Geva, Dazzling Killmen, Keelhaul, Loincloth, Today is the Day, and King Crimson. RADIANT KNIFE is now preparing to release two separate albums later in 2020: The Body on August 28th, and The Ghost on October 9th.
Travasos and Sheppert began making music together four years ago, after meeting by playing shows with past bands. Sheppert played in Raedon Kong and Collapsar, while Travasos was a member of The Object at the End of History as well as the touring drummer for international act Brother Dege. Sheppert says of their artistic compatibility, "We both like doing something different and experimental so it just felt natural. Once we began jamming together we never looked back."
And indeed, it's been a fruitful collaboration. The duo released their debut s/t album in 2017 and quickly followed it with Science Fiction in 2018; both albums were met with accolades from Metal Injection, Invisible Oranges, and more. Liam Savage of Echoes and Dust said of Science Fiction, "I can’t get these songs out of my head after repeated listens. [...] I have a distinct feeling that this will be on many people’s year-end lists. It’s that good. It’s not overblown and fancy, and it sticks in your head. What an excellent album from start to finish."
Now on the eve of putting out not one but two albums, this band's future is looking, ahem, radiant. Sheppert explains how RADIANT KNIFE's writing process led them to be releasing two albums in such a short time span:
"We typically have songs that can be lumped in two broad groups: one group being tech/riff-driven, heavy compositions and the other group being looser and more focused on letting the music breathe. In this go-around we just ended up with enough material to fulfill two releases. Lyrically speaking, The Ghost deals with a lot of spiritual themes (death of the physical body,afterlife beliefs, etc.) so the title seemed to fit pretty well. In contrast, The Body was a fitting title for the tech/heavy album. Although different, they are very much connected and I believe should be listened to one after the other to get the full picture of what Radiant Knife is about."

Calgary, Alberta-based NARCISSISTIC NECROSIS’ debut full-length album, titled The Art of Deformity, is set for its physical and digital release on August 28th.
Spawned in 2014 as a one-person death-grind project by William Bigcrow (DETHGOD, ex-Interitum), NARCISSISTIC NECROSIS has eventually evolved as a full-fledge quintet. As of February 2020, the Calgary-based ensemble now features four members: William Bigcrow on guitars and vocals, Jaden McLean on guitars, Mike Jones on Bass, and Jayden Walker on Drums. Delivering a hammering, metallic sounding guitars, grinding low-end bass, and sonic drum blasts, Narcissistic Necrosis aims to make a lasting impression.
Prior to the project evolving into a full line up, the architect William Bigcrow finished writing and recording all the songs for the upcoming debut album, The Art of Deformity. Conjuring an asphyxiating and ear-splitting presence, the band explores topics such as religious hypocrisy, narcissism, self-improvement, self-destruction, superstitious beliefs, and misanthropy throughout the record.

Magni was created by Clint Listing out of a Until the Sky Dies session (Dark Post Doom Metal), as he was looking to bring in ideas of his old project As All Die (Martial Industrial meets Neo Folk) and the love for bands like Tenhi, Antimatter and Of the Wand and the Moon.
Magni has brought Clint's life long belief in Asatru with that dark gothic folk style mixed with black metal. The name comes from a son of Thor and you will feel that heathen element throughout. A full-length album was announced for 2021.
