MY SILENT WAKE RELEASE "LOST IN MEMORIES, LOST IN GRIEF"

PRESS RELEASE:

MY SILENT WAKE – LOST IN MEMORIES, LOST IN GRIEF

LABEL: ARDUA MUSIC

RELEASE DATE: MAY 3RD 2024

Even in the soft, surrounding darkness behind the walls of sleep, my memories consume me. A tableau of frozen moments, flickering images upon the lightless screen behind my eyes. Each one is perfect in its terrible, aching beauty; the pain honed again to a gleaming, cutting edge that the forgetful hours of daylight had just begun to dull. Here in dreams I break once more, but in that breaking I see past, precious days as new and I would not trade that bittersweet agony for a thousand years of peaceful, silent slumber…

It has been four years since My Silent Wake gifted us with a full length album, but with Lost In Memories, Lost In Grief, their twelfth such endeavour, they have offered up treasures enough for every day of those intervening years and many more to come. There is a sense of homecoming, of acquaintance renewed in the melancholy chord progressions that touch the heart with such honesty and openness, but there is also a fresh excitement to be found in vibrant songs like opener ‘The Liar And The Fool’. There is a new energy bubbling beneath the wistful guitar lines and the haunting atmosphere, a sense that My Silent Wake are exploring new territories and beginning new chapters in their storied career. In the past the band have walked two separate paths, their albums being either dark, towering edifices of powerful doom/death metal or more experimental creations – ambient, acoustic and touched by folklore and history. With Lost In Memories, Lost In Grief there seems to have been a magical blurring of boundaries between the two worlds, with ghosts slipping across the thresholds. While songs like ‘Wolf’, with its twisting guitar motifs, ‘The Last Lullaby’ – rife with the dark radiance and emotional power that characterises My Silent Wake’s music – and the staggering ‘No Time’, it’s notes held like dying breaths with time stretching out between them, are undeniably, magnificently heavy, they also possess an earthy majesty, a regal nature not bound to finery or fripperies but to the ancient spirit of the forest and the soil, a sense of history that links them to the fragile enchantments of albums like 2020s Damnum Per Saeculorum. With its telling keyboard presence, emotive vocals steeped in sorrow and tinged with desperation, windswept riffs and singing guitar melodies, Lost In Memories, Lost In Grief may well be the most vibrant, beautifully realised, complete My Silent Wake album to date.

Recorded, mixed and mastered predominately at Priory Recording Studios by Greg Chandler (Ungfell, Indesinence, Esoteric etc) with additional work being completed at Hollow Hearth by the band’s own Simon Bibby, Lost In Memories… is blessed with a sound rich in texture, that captures the palpable emotion and unquestionable integrity which shines from every note. In the track ‘The Liar And The Fool’ you will hear the words “I cannot see this ending well…escape while you can”, but when Ardua Music release Lost In Memories, Lost In Grief on May 3rd, adorned in the evocative artwork of Matthew Vickerstaff (Cradle Of Filth, My Dying Bride, Mayhem etc), you will never want to leave My Silent Wake’s kingdom of twilight shadows and star dusted skies.

Line-up:

Addam Westlake - Bass Guitar

Gareth Arlett – Drums

Simon Bibby – Yamaha Reface YC organ / Clean vox / Whispers

Genre: Epic/Doom Metal

CRYPT SERMON RELEASE "THE STYGIAN ROSE"

PRESS RELEASE:

The Stygian Rose

by Crypt Sermon

Label: Dark Descent Records

Tracklist:

1.Glimmers in the Underworld

2.Thunder (Perfect Mind)

3.Down in the Hollow

4.Heavy is the Crown of Bone 05:08

5.Scrying Orb

6.The Stygian Rose

Dark heavy metallers Crypt Sermon unveil their bewitching new album, The Stygian Rose, under the Dark Descent banner. Featuring guitarist Steve Jansson (Daeva, Unrest), vocalist Brooks Wilson (Unrest), drummer Enrique Sagarnaga (Daeva, The Silver), guitarist Frank Chin (Daeva), bassist Matt Knox (Horrendous, The Silver), and keyboardist Tanner Anderson (Obsequiae, Majesties), the Philadelphia-based sextet parlayed their time away from the spotlight into a grander, more mysterious Crypt Sermon. The interflow of doom and heavy metals underpins The Stygian Rose, but these boundaries are effortlessly transcended. From the blistering solo salvo of "Glimmers in the Underworld" and the commanding rhythm of "Heavy is the Crown of Bone" to the evocative Near Eastern vibes of "Thunder (Perfect Mind)" and the intricate, masterful journey of the 11-minute title track, The Stygian Rose epitomizes the band's burgeoning musical and conceptual prowess.

"We wanted The Stygian Rose to scratch a lot of itches that aren't being scratched," says guitarist Steve Jansson. "That's my goal when I make music. I want to make things that I don't hear other people doing or at least don't hear others doing all in one package. The music also has to have staying power and replay value. [I wanted] that addictive feeling you had when you listened to records as a teenager."

Crypt Sermon tracked The Stygian Rose with acclaimed producer Arthur Rizk (Blood Incantation, Cirith Ungol) and engineer Aidan Elias (Blood Incantation, Wayfarer) at Redwoods in Philadelphia. Although Rizk handled Out of the Garden (2015) and The Ruins of Fading Light (2019), the team captured the band's multi-genre chaplet in a new light this time. Singles "Glimmers in the Underworld," "Heavy is the Crown of Bone," and "Thunder (Perfect Mind)" are frighteningly effective in their [Neil] Kernon-esque production. At the same time, deep album tracks "Scrying Orb," "Down in the Hollow," and "The Stygian Rose" cast long, mysterious shadows. Rizk summoned from Crypt Sermon the same big-stage sound producers Dave Jerden and Rick Rubin coaxed out of Alice In Chains and Trouble, respectively.

"We knew we wanted an aggressive sound," singer Brooks Wilson says. "Like [Metallica's] Black album or [Queensrÿche's] Operation: Mindcrime with loud smashing rock drums. The guitars had to be aggressive and loud. The bass had to be tuned in more than on our previous albums. The bass had to be clean and deep. We were generally after a more clean, distinct, and audible production. The Stygian Rose has way more depth than anything we've done before."

Adorned with captivating artwork and featuring an enchanting (yet dark) lyrical concept by Wilson, this is Crypt Sermon’s level-up moment. Dive into The Stygian Rose and experience its rich rewards.

GODTHRYMM RELEASE "DISTORTIONS"

PRESS RELEASE:

British epic doom metallers GODTHRYMM -- featuring members once involved in such luminaries as My Dying Bride, Anathema, Vallenfyre, and Solstice -- return with their new album, Distortions, set for release on August 18th via Profound Lore Records.

The follow-up to 2020’s widely lauded Reflections shows the Halifax-based quartet of Hamish Glencross (guitars, vocals), Catherine Glencross (keyboards, vocals), “Sasquatch” Bob Crolla (bass), and Shaun “Winter” Taylor-Steels (drums) elegantly expanding upon their sound and vision. With tracks like “Follow Me,” featuring former My Dying Bride compatriot Aaron Stainthorpe, “Echoes,” and “Devils,” Distortions advances GODTHRYMM into the hallowed halls of the genre they adore to death.

“I absolutely wanted to create a much more layered and complex arrangement in the sound,” notes Glencross. “Totally amping up the contrasts to the extreme — the light shines brighter, and the darker depths are vast trenches. There is a lot more harmony and melancholy for much of it, but also some slab-heavy riffing, too. We wanted a total progression in the production and more class and clarity in the sound, as opposed to Reflections, which could get quite dense in tone.”

Distortions is the second part of Glencross’ Visions trilogy — the third part, Projections, is already in the works. Throughout its seven-track, hour-long expanse, GODTHRYMM’s sophomore effort delves deeper into the despondent march of post-pandemic singles “Chasm” and “In Perpetuum,” the latter released exclusively on Decibel Magazine’s Decibel Flexi Series in 2022. Glencross’ emotionally-charged vocals pair perfectly with his towering riffs and thoughtful, crestfallen harmonies. The rhythmic foundation of Crolla and Taylor-Steels is absolutely critical to Glencross’ woebegone éclat. With Catherine Glencross’ angelic vocals and atmospheric keyboards stitched into the monumental “As Titans,” the granite-hard “Obsess And Regress,” and the stirring “Pictures Remain,” Distortions has it all.

“The songwriting for Distortions began during the first lockdown,” Glencross says. “That inspired me to start writing and recording at home, and that structure helped define how we would ultimately write the album. It was very much isolated for the most part, though. I would write and record the first arrangement of a song and then send it through to the others, who would record their parts and send them back. Then, it would be a case of refining and rewriting as inspired by the contributions of everyone. Only one song, ‘Devils,’ was written in the rehearsal room before the rest of the album.”

For an album centered lyrically on grief, loss, regret, resolve, love, and determination, it’s hard to imagine something inexplicably heavy yet remarkably beautiful. Producer Andy Hawkins (Hark, Grave Lines) was the perfect man for the job. Spread across The Nave Studio in Leeds and Sasquatch Music Studio in Huddersfield, he captured GODTHRYMM at their most menacing (“Unseen Unheard”) and vulnerable (“Follow Me”). The tones he extracted from Glencross, Crolla, and Taylor-Steels absolutely crush, while the brighter moments (like Catherine Glencross’ spell-binding vocals on “Obsess and Regress”) splinter GODTHRYMM’s disheartened darkness in two. Distortions was mastered by Mark Midgley (Doom, Hellkrusher) for Northern Mastering Co.

In advance of the record’s release, today the band unveils first single, “Echoes.” Notes Glencross, “This last couple of years brought challenge and heartache to too many of us. ‘Echoes’ is our ode to loss and grief. We lost people very dear to us, and this song came from that. Love and loss is universal, and I hope we may share and connect through our music.”

Distortions will be released on CD, LP, cassette, and digital formats. Find preorders at THIS LOCATION: https://linktr.ee/godthrymm

Distortions Track Listing:

1. As Titans

2. Devils

3. Echoes

4. Obsess And Regress

5. Unseen Unheard

6. Follow Me

7. Pictures Remain

For a band that formed in 2017, GODTHRYMM are on an impressive run. Not only have they proven to be a formidable live act—invites to Bloodstock Open Air, In Flammen Open Air, and Tomorrow’s Ghost Festival are but the beginning—but the group’s prolific output of three EPs, two singles, and two full-length albums have also repositioned England as the epicenter of high-quality, epic-sounding doom metal. The cover art by Andy Green (My Dying Bride) is simply a force multiplier. All eyes are on Godthrymm with Distortions.

“I hope we continue to evolve and progress,” Glencross says. “The sound is decidedly more complete [on Distortions] than the previous incarnations, which are quite primitive. I hope people connect with the passion and love we have put in. The themes are universal and eternal. I’m very grateful and touched any time anyone appreciates our work.”

ALTAR OF OBLIVION RELEASE "BURNING MEMORIES"

PRESS RELEASE:

Burning Memories (mini-album)

by Altar Of Oblivion

Tracklist:

1.Burning Memories 04:41

2.Through The Night

3.Cosmic Chaos

4.Manic Masquerade

5.Radiation

Fresh after being signed to From The Vaults, epic doom metallers Altar Of Oblivion announce the release of the EP “Burning Memories”. The five tracks were recorded in 2016 just after the completion of the band’s third full-length.

Now, seven years later, the EP is finally ready to see the light of day. On it, the band conjures up classic timeless epic doom metal, whilst at the same time exploring untrodden ground under the gloomy auspices of this Nordic collective.

The origins of Altar of Oblivion can be traced back to 2003, when Martin

Sparvath (guitars/vocals) and Allan Larsen (drums) formed a duo called

Summoning Sickness. Around three years later, this doubtful project morphed into Altar of Oblivion and the entity went from playing simple black/speed/ heavy-metal to epic doom metal. To complete the lineup, two new members in the shape of former opera-singer Mik Mentor and bassist/caffeine-addict Christian Nørgaard were recruited, and the band has, so far, several demos, EPs, a live album, and three full-lengths under its belt. Now, a new chapter opens up for Altar Of Oblivion, while the band closes the door on a brilliant past before looking forward to a new album in 2024.

WIZDOOM RELEASE "WAY OF THE LOST" VIDEO

PRESS RELEASE:

The official music video for 'Way Of The Lost', new Wizdoom single!

Listen to it here: https://orcd.co/wayofthelost

Chris David says:

”This song, ’Way Of The Lost’ is one that I’m very attached to, there was so much feelings going into the song while writing it. It is a doom metal ballad that starts off very soft with acoustic instruments and a very emotional vocal melody together with the noise of a wood fire, making you feel like you are out in the forrest sitting at a campfire. Then the song builds up, adding more instruments, getting more intense but still at a very slow tempo and later on finishes off in the same style like it started, similar to a story. This is a song with huge dynamics. The lyrics is inspired by the norse folklore creature ”skogsrå”, which will make you pretty much forever lost in the woods or whatever context the fits you” - Chris. D

BIO

Monasterium is a Polish band founded in 2014 and dedicated to epic heavy/doom metal. All members of the brotherhood are experienced musicians sharing passion, common vision and belief in the power of traditional metal. These virtues have brought them to their eponymous first full length album released in May 2016 by No Remorse Records.

Monasterium won critical acclaim of the metal underground and was promoted live at the highly esteemed European metal festivals: Hammer Of Doom, Up The Hammers, Malta Doom Metal Festival, Doom over Vienna, and the Seeds of Doom festival.

In 2019 Monasterium released sophomore album Church Of Bones via Nine Records. While offering a broad variety in the songwriting, all eight anthems are the worship of the classic sound and stand tall in the fight for true metal.

ON THE LOOSE RELEASE "ON THE LOOSE"

PRESS RELEASE:

Release Date: March 20th, 2022

FFO: Candlemass, Sorcerer, Crypt Sermon

MArco Marouco (guitar / bass) says:

"With the pandemic no music was allowed on stages so after some personal decisions I had time to do MY album.

I also play in 3 bands: Extreme Unction, Els Focs Negres and Perpetrator, also played with heavy metal maniacs SABATAN and satanic speed metalers OMISSION from Spain did the solos for 3 DECAYED albums and was a live session guitar player for FILII NIGRANTIUM INFERNALIUM.

I wanted to do an instrumental album with an orchestra, all the music that you will listen was supposed to be instrumental, but after some months waiting for the orchestrations, from 3 different guys I decided to ask my friend Lino who also sings in a tribute Iron Maiden band Iron Beast and also with the UK based band AIRFORCE to sing in the album.

The album will be released on March 20, 2022, the next equinox with or without a label. Because I want that date and that´s it, this is a one-man project but if there is help from the public this might be a live band. I invited João Ventura from THE LIMIT / Dawnrider to play the drums and asked my friend Rick Thor to write some wonderful lyrics, all the artwork photos taken by me.

Musically expect a mix of Candlemass and Iron Maiden , about the lyrics, are all small little stories each has a concept that leads to a deadly sin. The album has 7 songs 7 deadly sins "

Vocals: Flávio Lino

Drums: João Pedro Ventura

Guitars/Bass: Marco Marouco

PRESS RELEASE:

Polish Epic Doom group EVANGELIST are streaming new song "The Puritan," a track from forthcoming album Ad Mortem Festinamus.

EVANGELIST will release Ad Mortem Festinamus on CD and limited edition vinyl (300 copies) December 18 on Nine Records. Pre-orders are open:

evangelistdoom.bandcamp.com/album/ad-mortem-festinamus

In times of doom, EVANGELIST returns with songs of death and destruction. The band was first started in the spring of 2008, with inspiration mainly coming from the obscure epic metal scene in the U.S., epic doom metal pioneers and metal classics in general. Major lyrical inspiration came from the twisted minds of R.E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, history, religion and spirituality of the ages gone by.

Their debut album, In Partibus Infidelium, was recorded between 2009 and 2011 and released in June 2011 by PsycheDOOMelic Records. Their sophomore record, Doominicanes, was recorded between 2012 and 2013 and released in May 2013 by Doomentia Records. In October 2014, a collaboration with CAPILLA ARDIENTE troops was revealed in the form of the infamous Capilla Ardiente/Evangelist 12” split on which EVANGELIST delivered their own version of MAYHEM’S classic “Freezing Moon." In December 2018, after a short hiatus, their third album, Deus Vult, was released by Nine Records.

Almost one year later, recording sessions began on two new songs, as well as a rendition of one of MANILLA ROAD'S finest tracks, "Mystification." These three songs were paired with another three tracks recorded during the Deus Vult recording sessions, and resulting in the Ad Mortem Festimaus EP.

Stream the band's cover of MANILLA ROAD classic "Mystification" (a tribute to the late Mark Shelton) at youtu.be/2xMH14LSAiw.

Track List:

1. Perceval

2. Anubis (On the Onyx Throne of Death)

3. The Puritan

4. Pale Lady of Mercy

5. Towards the End

6. Mystification (Manilla Road cover)

Album Credits:

Recorded, mixed and mastered at JRStudio between Anno Domini 2016-2018 (tracks 3-5) and 2019-2020 (tracks 1,2 and 6) in two separate recording sessions by Jacek "Racek" Gruszka. Cover art drawing by Diego Spezzoni. Cover layout and packaging design by Xaay.
