PRESS RELEASE:
BREATH – Brahman
Out October 24th, 2025 via Argonauta Records
Formats: CD | LP | Digital
Overview
Portland, Oregon’s meditative doom metal force BREATH return with their most ambitious work to date: Brahman, out October 24th on Argonauta Records. A profound exploration of stillness, transcendence and heaviness, Brahman bridges crushing doom with spiritual atmospheres, guiding listeners through a sonic ritual that is as introspective as it is earth-shaking.
Following their 2021 debut Primeval Transmissions (Desert Records) and its 2023 remixed & remastered re-release, BREATH evolve beyond their origins as a duo, opening their sound to new collaborators and instruments. The result is an album that expands the very boundaries of meditative doom.
The Album
On Brahman, BREATH channel ancient mysticism, eastern musical traditions, and seismic doom riffs into a cohesive, immersive journey. The record was enriched by contributions from:
Rob Wrong (Witch Mountain, The Skull) – guitars
Lauren Hatch – keys
TJ Minnich (Spitalfield) – djembe
The songs resonate with ritualistic weight, weaving serpentine passages, hypnotic basslines, and cosmic textures into an album that feels timeless and boundless.
Band Statement:
“BRAHMAN is an ode to the unchanging, all-pervasive true reality. It exists in and is the connective thread shared by all living things. Music in service to the mirror of nature, to what can arise through stillness.”

About BREATH
The roots of BREATH trace back to childhood friends Steven O’Kelly and Ian Caton, who began playing music together in high school in the Portland suburbs. Their inseparable bond as a rhythm section across multiple projects eventually blossomed into BREATH – the culmination of O’Kelly’s songwriting magnetism and spiritual searching.
Their debut Primeval Transmissions (2021, Desert Records) was recorded by Rob Wrong at his Wrong Way Recording Studio and mastered by Tad Doyle, with Wrong also contributing guitars. The record positioned BREATH as a singular new voice in the heavy underground, blending doom traditions with a meditative, transcendental quality.
Influenced by the likes of Earth, OM, Grails, and classic mentors Black Sabbath and Ravi Shankar, BREATH’s music draws from both crushing heaviness and sacred atmospheres. From 2016 to 2020, O’Kelly and Caton studied and performed traditional Indonesian music with Portland’s Gamelan Wahyu Dari Langit, expanding their approach to song structure and composition far beyond Western conventions.
Their sound fuses growling distortion with incense-laden marches, invoking the rhythmic force of John Bonham, the meditative depth of Al Cisneros, and the melodic intricacy of Geddy Lee.
With the addition of Lauren Hatch on keys (2023) and Justin Acevedo on guitar (2024), BREATH continue to evolve, painting far outside conventional boundaries and carving their own unique path within doom metal’s ever-expanding universe.
