MANTAR RELEASE "POST APOCALYPTIC DEPRESSION"

PRESS RELEASE:

MANTAR will release a brand new full-length, Post Apocalyptic Depression, on February 14th, 2025 via Metal Blade Records!

2022′s Pain Is Forever And This Is The End saw the German duo bring a sonic richness to their madly heavy blackened death-punk grooves, assisting the record to its position at #2 on Germany’s Official Top 10 album chart. The record added smoother, calmer, more harmonic textures to MANTAR‘s expanding palette, but on 2024′s Post Apocalyptic Depression, the band smashes the palette and punches a hole in the canvas.

“We wanted to do everything different from the last album,” affirms guitarist/vocalist Hanno Klänhardt. “The last album was very produced. A huge sounding record with clean production. Display of power. That was what we wanted and felt at that time. Now we are trying to destroy what we’ve built up with the last album. There is a certain beauty in disappointing people’s expectations.”

One earful of monster-grooving punk ‘n’ roll opener “Absolute Ghost” confirms that disappointment is an implausible reaction to the wildly energized righteous blood-shakers assembled here. MANTAR has already eaten up the road all over Europe, the US, Japan, Latin America, and South Africa, as well as all the major European festivals and American festivals over their ten-year existence, but these tunes are destined for especially visceral live connection.

The ethos is clear from the first two words Hanno uses to describe the recording process: “Quick and dirty. We didn’t even bring our own gear to the studio, and just used the equipment that we would find there. There was zero planning involved in the making of this album. We wanted to keep it as primitive as possible. We were bolder this time and literally cut any shit off the songs that we didn’t think was necessary. I think you can hear that and playing these new songs is more fun. I feel very connected with my punk roots on this album. Very punk rock production and next to our first album definitely the most raw sounding one.”

Further reconnecting MANTAR with the spirit of their 2014 debut Death By Burning, the new front cover is again painted by renowned artist Aron Wiesenfeld, whose haunting aesthetic lends the band such distinctive and striking visual impact. It feels like a band coming full circle, drawing to a close the first ten years of MANTAR.

As for that intensely full-on title, Hanno defines Post Apocalyptic Depression as “the feeling you get after a mass hysteria. The feeling you get once you’ve invested all your power in a mass hypnosis and suddenly realize there won’t be no salvation. Also, it refers to a very one-dimensional and basic human feeling we all know. Being just burned out after a very tedious and exhausting period of life. Post Apocalyptic Depression also can be taken as the insight that people just refuse to learn. Besides that, it’s a damn catchy and cool name for an album that sounds exactly the way these words sound.”

As a precursor to the record’s release, today MANTAR unleashes first single, “Halsgericht.” Comments Hanno, “The title means something like ‘the right to impose extra heavy punishment.’ MANTAR style.

Old fashioned darkness. It’s fun to not only finally work with a German song title but also introduce some German lines to the song. It makes it weird and sinister. Just what we like. Especially in the US, people seem to love these kinda vibes. Fine by us. Celebrating it with the most epic hook of the whole album.”

Formed in 2013, MANTAR has been recognized as one of the hardest working among the German extreme metal underground. MANTAR manages to sound heavier than most five piece bands you may know, in spite of the fact that no bass guitar is used on this record. Just drums and guitar set for destruction. Forget about rock ‘n’ roll. This will hurt. Flogging beats and blackened melodies meet feedback orgies and doom mayhem. Early Melvins, Motörhead, Darkthrone. You name it. Don’t call it sludge though…

NINE TREASURES SIGNS WITH METAL BLADE RECORDS

PRESS RELEASE:

Band To Reissue “Awakening From Dukkha” And “Wisdom Eyes” Full-Length Albums + New Video Now Playing

Metal Blade Records is pleased to welcome Inner Mongolian metal collective NINE TREASURES to its esteemed roster.

Thanks to three acclaimed albums, millions of streams, and European tours and festivals (Wacken Open Air, Woodstock Poland, etc), metal heroes NINE TREASURES are well on their way to accomplishing their goal of a Mongolian metal revolution. Formed by vocalist/guitarist Askhan Avagchuud in 2010 in the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia in China, NINE TREASURES are a unique combination of heavy metal and traditional Mongolian instrumentation, utilizing both conventional vocals and Mongolian throat singing. Guitars, bass, and drums collide with indigenous string instruments including the balalaika and the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), resulting in a sonic kaleidoscope that follows no set template. Playing one-hundred-plus festival shows and headlining gigs per year in Asia, to audiences of up to 50,000, NINE TREASURES are at the top of their game.

Comments Askhan Avagchuud (guitars, vocals, balalaika, tovshuur), “We are excited to be on Metal Blade. We’ve always been inspired by heavy American and European bands. America and Europe are very important for us to tour and create a relationship with Metal music fans from these countries we admire.”

NINE TREASURES has nearly completed an epic new record, more than five years in the making, which will drop on Metal Blade next year. In the meantime, the band will re-release the twelve-song compilation album Awakening From Dukkha as well as a remaster of 2017′s Wisdom Eyes.

Awakening From Dukkha collects re-recorded songs from NINE TREASURES‘ three studio LPs, 2012′s Arvan Ald Guulin Honshoor, 2013′s Nine Treasures and 2017 Wisdom Eyes. The band’s evolution has been profound. “We experimented a lot and through our entire journey, we felt like we were getting better with each album,” Askhan says. “But the main vibe for us has always been the same, which was the pentatonic eastern music mixed with heavy metal. We don’t do half step notes often, that’s why the energy is similar throughout all of our albums.”

That said, the brand-new music on the as-yet-untitled 2025 LP will be a giant step for the band, as the frontman explains, “This new album is different from any of our past releases. We added focused production detail and evolved the way we write music. We are focused on big riffs and inspiring moments that take our audience on a journey; that’s part of the tradition we grew up in.”

The band takes its name from a group of objects referenced in ancient Mongolian folklore, NINE TREASURES touch on the mythology and fairy tales of their homeland. Askhan, a practicing Buddhist, is intent on using their music to bring comfort, and ease the suffering of others. “I want to share the teachings I’ve learned with people like me who have experienced anxiety or life struggles who seek refuge and healing in music,” Askhan says. “We want NINE TREASURES to bring positive and inspiring energy into the world – the greatest thing we can do with this is to inspire people.”

SAOR RELEASE NEW SINGLE "AMIDST THE RUINS"

PRESS RELEASE:

As the mists of time part like whispers through the Highlands, SAOR rises once more to weave a tapestry of history and modernity with their powerful new single, Amidst the Ruins. This first release offers a haunting glimpse into their highly anticipated upcoming sixth eponymous album, a majestic symphony blending black metal intensity and Celtic folk melodies.

Inspired by a hillwalking journey through the desolate remnants of an older world, Amidst the Ruins captures the stark contrast between the echoes of a once-great heritage and the distractions of our modern lives. This anthem draws listeners into a reverent reflection of Scotland’s sacred past, where the very ground holds stories of strength and identity now overshadowed by fleeting, shallow pursuits.

Guided by the spirit of Caledonia, SAOR’s latest opus majestically intertwines melancholy with grandeur, bridging the past and present through their evocative soundscapes. From the sorrowful betrayal chronicled in Glen of Sorrow to the forested whispers accompanying The Sylvan Embrace, each note serves as a portal to Scotland’s rich heritage, embodying tales of strength, sorrow, and renewal.

DEFEATED SANITY PREMIERS "CHRONICLES OF LUNACY"

PRESS RELEASE:

No band has flipped death metal on its deformed head like Defeated Sanity. The band’s uniquely potent concoction of punishing technical proficiency and jazz-infused chaos has delighted metalheads from their familial beginnings in Berlin to Maryland Deathfest and India. Now, after breaking onto the Billboard charts with their last album, these underground champions are returning to the brutal slamming that cemented their legacy.

“Chronicles of Lunacy is not only a must buy”, writes New Noise. “It’s one of the top death metal records of 2024. All hail Defeated Sanity”.

Chronicles of Lunacy comes out today, Friday, November 22 on Season of Mist, but you can hear all eight rip-roaring songs today by listening to the full album stream on the Season of Mist YouTube channel.

Defeated Sanity Chronicles of Lunacy AMA

Friday, November 22

3pm Eastern Time

Chronicles of Lunacy punches you right in the face. Opener “Amputationsdrang” already has you pinned to the mat beneath its non-stop blasts. Get comfortable, too. Defeated Sanity don’t let the album up for air until “Temporal Disintegration” warps into a wiggling bass outro.

“We love experimenting”, explains drummer and founding member Lille Gruber. “But we realized that some of our oldest fans might have gotten lost after our last couple of albums. With Chronicles of Lunacy, we wanted to focus more on neck-snapping brutality”.

Acting like cavemen isn’t so easy when your band has a Mensa-level maestro like Gruber at the controls.  “Lille’s drumming is just ridiculous”, says bassist Jacob Schmidt. Whether Gruber is hammering his snare, pinging between cymbals or riding a colossal groove, Chronicles of Lunacy flows like a never-ending stream of filth. Lead single “The Odour of Sanctity” opens like he’s puncturing a wound with blistering blast beats, only to spew over into a monstrously wonky syncopated stomp.

“He’s the face of the franchise, so we’re never going to abandon those head-scratching moments that set Defeated Sanity apart”, Schmidt continues.

Indeed, Chronicles of Lunacy isn’t Defeated Sanity for dummies. “Each song deals with a different form of mental corruption”, vocalist Josh Welshman says. “Odour” stinks of religious fanaticism. Early crowd favorite “A Patriarchy Perverse” cracks open the mind of co-ed killer Ed Kemper. “Sickness breeding sickness“, Welshman growls with guttural vengeance.

While it still hits from every odd angle, Chronicles of Lunacy does draw a jagged red line back to Defeated Sanity’s brutal origins. After all, the band now share a label with their namesake. New guitarist Vaughn Stoffey’s chunky finger taps whip “Accelerating the Rot” into the fastest song in DS history. “This album is rawer and more straightforward”, Stoffey says. “It gets back to what people love about Psalms of the Moribund and Chapters of Repugnance“.

To dig up the sheer brutality that long-time fans have come to crave, Defeated Sanity returned to Thousand Cave Studios. The underground hot spot served as the excavation site for their previous two albums, but with Chronicles of Lunacy, producer Colin Marston was encouraged to really get his hands dirty. “We still wanted some of the high fidelity that you hear on modern death metal records”, Schmidt says, “but this album also has the old school’s crushing low-end”.

The band execute this two-headed approach to monstrous effect on “Condemned to Vascular Famine”. At just under six minutes, the song delivers the longest ass beating on Chronicles of Lunacy. At times, all four members sound like they’re climbing up the walls in separate asylums, but after slipping in a brief nod to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the band come slamming down into the album’s ugliest breakdown.

“That’s one of our favorites”, the band says. “It lands at a crossroad of the DS sound that we ended up with on Chronicles of Lunacy. Even though it gets pretty fucking weird at times, there’s still an emphasis on heavy, straight-up slamming”

They’re never going to drag their knuckles in a straight line, but on Chronicles of Lunacy, Defeated Sanity return to sheer brutality.

CELESTIAL SANCTUARY SIGNS WITH METAL BLADE RECORDS

PRESS RELEASE:

Metal Blade Records is pleased to welcome UK death metal outfit CELESTIAL SANCTUARY to their esteemed roster.

Forged in 2019, CELESTIAL SANCTUARY burst onto the scene with their brutal blend of death metal pulling influence from the likes of Carcass, Dying Fetus, and Cannibal Corpse and injecting their own fetid flavor into the genre.

CELESTIAL SANCTUARY released their sophomore album, Insatiable Thirst For Torment, on Church Road Records in August of 2023. Hailed by fans and critics alike, Distorted Sound awarded the band a 10/10 rating noting, “CELESTIAL SANCTUARY have absolutely nailed their second album release. For fans of death metal, there is a little element of everything neatly tied together and delivered with precision.” Blabbermouth wrote, “Here we have a band with everything going for them. Insatiable Thirst For Torment is old-school death metal, fully rejuvenated, right down to James Bousema’s magnificent cover art. Up there with the best that the genre has to offer in 2023, CELESTIAL SANCTUARY have birthed a monster.” Kerrang gushed, “Death metal is meant to be disgusting. Brit sickos Celestial Sanctuary understand this better than most.” Added Everything Is Noise, “Insatiable Thirst For Torment is an impressive gorepile of fuck, a rancid and bloodied foreskin tapestry, a fetid bloat of liquified unlife. It’s one of those DOOM levels with the fleshy, living walls that make you feel uneasy before bisecting demons with the Super Shotgun. What I’m trying to say is, it’s fun as hell… This band deserves all the love they get, and then some.”

Comments the band on their signing, “We are chuffed to bits and extremely proud to have signed with Metal Blade Records. All of us have grown up listening to CDs and records that brandish the mark of The Blade, so to be a part of that history and stand on a roster alongside the best artists in the world of metal is an honor that isn’t lost on us. We’re well into the writing process for our next album, and having the backing of Metal Blade is inspiring us to write our most brutal, unhinged, and best shit yet. See you fucks on the road!“

Having played and toured with such scene giants as Obituary, Cattle Decapitation, Gatecreeper, Frozen Soul, and Undeath, CELESTIAL SANCTUARY has proven that the UK has a new band that can go toe-to-toe with their Stateside counterparts. Stand by for more news on CELESTIAL SANCTUARY in the months to come.
