PRESS RELEASE:

CAGED BASTARD is an experimental extreme music one-man band founded by Muhammad Oun in 2018. The project initially began as a blackened hardcore/grindcore band with crust punk influences. Over time, Muhammad started pushing the boundaries of extreme "metal" by incorporating non metal musical elements and unconventional sounds into his compositions. This marked the beginning of his exploration into experimental extreme music, where he continually challenges and redefines the traditional confines of the genre.

Since 2019 the project has explored the intersection between extreme metal, noise, drone, ambient textures and other non metal sonic elements. This approach allows the music to move beyond strict genre boundaries while maintaining the intensity and atmosphere associated with extreme music.

Caged Bastard is entirely self-produced. Muhammad Oun is a multi-instrumentalist, responsible for guitar, bass, synth/noise, drum programming, as well as recording, mixing, and mastering. During live performances, he uses playback for drums and bass while delivering live guitar, vocals, noise generation, and effect manipulation.

LIGHTHOUSE is CAGED BASTARD´s fourth full length album. Recorded in November 2025 the album explores pressure, restraint and the transmutation of external negativity into a powerful internal structure, something a human being can return to when chaos intensifies.

The first 4 tracks were intentionally composed to feel dense and claustrophobic, almost like moving inside a block of solid concrete. The music emphasized weight, repetition and compression creating an atmosphere where tension builds slowly and deliverately rather than exploding outward.

Across these compositions the sound moves between oppressive heaviness, hypnotic repetition, and vast atmospheric passages. Elements of extreme metal, drone, and experimental textures are used to construct a sonic environment that feels both confrontational and meditative.

The final track, "The Wayfarer, serves as an instrumental closing piece that opens the space after the intensity of the previous compositions, allowing the listener to step outside the structure and observe it from a distance.

With "Lighthouse", the project continues to explore extreme music as a form of architecture where pressure, discipline and restraint shape something capable of standing firm against the surrounding storm.

For more than twenty years Frozen Ocean has brought us a staggering array of musical gifts; journeys that have taken us from the depths of space to the worlds of Tove Jansson’s literary creations, from Norse mythology to complex internal landscapes – riding on the wings of cold black metal and textured ambience – dramatic and visionary works. Now Vaarwel, the creative spirit behind the Frozen Ocean name, has returned with another sonic dream to ignite our imaginations and transport us to new dimensions. A work that draws inspiration from the writing of John Ajvide Lindqvist and the music of Lifelover, with lyrics written entirely in Swedish that communicate on a level beyond language. Askdrömmar leads us through a gallery of images, of haunting vignettes, to a destination unique to each soul that listens.

We enter the world of Askdrömmar along the moon road, ‘Mångata’ – both frightening and fascinating in equal measure. Vaarwel’s grim voice rasps over the dark, richly melodic music, a superlative demonstration of the power of black metal vocals at their most emotive. Already the light behind you is but a pinprick in the distance as the city begins to swallow you. The melodic, gothic doom inflections of ‘Bortkastade dödsrunor’ draw you deeper still and it becomes clear that these songs are creating an environment as well as a narrative and atmosphere – listening to Askdrömmar is to explore the secret streets of this dark urban domain. As you reach ‘Jag sover’ you are haunted by the city, surrounded by it, consumed by it, lost in its labyrinthine heart. The melancholy melodies twist through the night time world and the chosen language of presentation with its harsh poetry invokes imagery while avoiding definite definition. The liquid keys of ‘I lyktornas sken’ move between the pools of light that punctuate the blackness, creating unfathomable depths and innumerable layers, possessing the power to hypnotise and enthral. From the sinuous lament of ‘Köttkvarn’ with its bewitching despair, through the frantic fear of ‘Långt lopp genom mörkret’ to the beautiful, humbling conclusion of ‘Brunkebergstunneln’, Vaarwel has created nothing less than magic. Askdrömmar is the most powerful and affecting Frozen Ocean work to date – and that is some achievement.

Italian extreme drone doom outfit OWLS OVER OAKS are ready to unleash their long awaited debut album O.O.O., out on February 27 in CD and digital formats via Argonauta Records.

Emerging from the depths of Italy’s extreme underground, OWLS OVER OAKS deliver a crushing and hypnotic vision of drone doom rooted in pure sonic weight and ritualistic atmospheres. The project was founded by Valerio “Leynir” Possetto, former bassist of Enisum, and took its definitive form with the addition of vocalist Elisa “Aeretica” Iacopini, previously active with Amethista, and drummer Roberto “Bob Rip” Ripollino, known for his work with Nihili Locus and Nerocapra.

Leynir is the sole composer and lyricist, shaping a sound conceived as a total immersion rather than a collection of songs. The debut album O.O.O., the first chapter of a planned trilogy, was recorded entirely in analog and mastered by James Plotkin, whose touch further enhances the oppressive and organic depth of the sound. One of its most radical elements is the complete absence of guitars. Instead, the music is built on dual bass lines, both performed by Leynir, which generate a massive and suffocating low end foundation. The result is a monolithic sonic structure that recalls the darkest visions of Thorr’s Hammer, Khanate, and Burning Witch, filtered through a bleak and apocalyptic sensibility.

Composed of three long tracks for a total running time of about forty minutes, O.O.O. unfolds as a single liturgical descent into pain, perdition, and blindness. The album is conceived as an unbroken ritual where repetition, tension, and space play as important a role as distortion and volume. Every passage is wrapped in a pitch black atmosphere inspired by the desolate imagery of a Mad Max like world.

Born in 2012, NIBIRU emerged as the manifestation of a relentless process of spiritual and emotional knowledge. This journey involves every member of the band and shapes a creative approach that is both impetuous and deeply ritualistic. Their lyrical form blends enochian elements with Italian language. Their sound draws from post punk, darkwave, ambient, black metal and occult doom. The definition that best captures their essence is Ritualistic Occult Black Doom.

The band performed an extended eighty minute ritual at Roadburn Festival 2016, toured Europe with Enisum, appeared at Metalitalia Festival 2018, toured the UK including a noted performance at The Black Heart in London reviewed by Metal Hammer UK, and played at Church of Crow Doom Festival with Ahab in 2023 as well as headlining From Dust Till Doom Festival in Zurich the same year.

Their presence extends beyond the stage. NIBIRU took part in “Terror Tales: A Tribute to Death SS” released by Black Widow Records and in “Fiabe Bandite vol.1”. They appear in Stefano Cerati’s book I cento migliori dischi Stoner Heavy Psych, Eduardo Vitolo’s Children of Doom and in Corrado De Sio’s documentary Road to Roadburn.

Their audiovisual impact is equally significant. Videos for the Salbrox tracks Nanta, Efflatus and Exarp have collected strong attention online and continue to represent the visual essence of the band.

“H Y P Ó S T A S I S” represents a new chapter, a deep and visceral embodiment of the band’s ongoing exploration of inner awareness, corruptible and malignant. An album that expands their ritualistic vision and reinforces their unmistakable artistic identity.

I used to have words I wanted to say, opinions I wanted to voice. I believed fervently in right and wrong, in a morality that gave meaning to all I did. I used to have thoughts about…about…so many things. I know I stood for something and against something. But it has all drained away; down the tubes, through the wires, into the watching mechanical eyes. I am an empty vessel yet I make no noise. All is as it should be. I must sleep now. I’m not meant to be awake. I must sleep now…

Old Year have existed since 2017, initially as a two piece, in the murky shadows of the Boise, Idaho underground music scene…behind closed doors, a rumour, almost a secret. But in 2021, their line-up fleshed out to a trio, the band crawled out from their cellar stronghold into a post lockdown world and on to the stage, unleashing the insidious horror of the droning doom death that had sustained them in their isolation. In 2023 an eponymous 10 minute single became their first release – an immersion into the slow death of humanity. An ocean away Apocalyptic Witchcraft were drawn to the “uniquely desolate voice” of Old Year and now the first results of that new alliance are ready to be set loose.

No Dissent is a four track album of colossal weight, an agonised crawl through a parched, dystopian hellscape. ‘Death Frequency’ begins this trip into suffocating, bleak emotion…an insectile drone of guitars above slow, staggering drum beats carrying deep, suppurating vocal intonations – pronouncements of doom from a long dead throat. Will, desire, motivation and belief bleed slowly from your body, replaced by a black ichor of hopelessness fed into your veins to the sound of a scream of agony and despair, drawn out for eternity. Worlds die in the spaces between the chords of ‘Rotting Illusion’ and Old Year tighten their grip around your spirit, dragging you deeper into their claustrophobic embrace. There’s no moment to breathe as you slide into the maw of ‘Mechanical Birth’ where the threat becomes more direct, more immediate. This track, this movement in this grand symphony of suffering, is not content to let you drown. It moves towards you with hooks in hand…inescapable. And finally ‘Lock Step’; so oppressive you feel yourself dissolving beneath the awesome mass of Old Year. When it’s all over movement feels impossible. It takes time for the shadow of Old Year to slip from your skin, for its hold on your mind to release. And you’re left with a hunger…an addiction to the lethargic torment you have just escaped.

Adorned in bleak and tortured artwork, No Dissent will be presented to the world by Apocalyptic Witchcraft on October 24th. A vision, a warning, a promise… asphyxiating and soul crushing. Approach Old Year’s gifts with care – the future is bleak indeed.

On the second album "Solace in Virtue's Absence", a journey was set to encapsulate entropy through meditative states, and dig within to raise better awareness.

Influences ranging from psychedelic black metal, tribal percussions, sludgy riffs and drones to create atmospheres, repetitions, build-ups, and raw brutality are the main focuses of the songwriting process. Delivering rage and frustration at times, melancholy and mystery are found throughout and transcendence, ritualistic themes that relate to the story within the lyrics.

“Beings from beyond receive a cryptic message from Earth, leading them to witness a conflict between two cultures. One of these cultures holds the key to the transmission‘s origin.”

The album was recorded in 2020 in Bizerte during the first Covid-19 lockdown, then the project was put on hold to release the one-track EP "Strive" in 2021. After a mini tour in Switzerland, the recording of the vocals was finished in late 2022. Then the release was delayed for personal reasons.

We try to dispose of negativity to raise potential, but chaos is order yet undeciphered. We Scoured the horizons, we strived for the ultimate price... Did we find Solace?

Formed in 2011, INSECT ARK is the Berlin-based duo of American artists Dana Schechter (SWANS) on bass/lap steel/synth/vocals, and drummer/percussionist Tim Wyskida (KHANATE, BLIND IDIOT GOD).

"Raw Blood Singing" - INSECT ARK's fourth full-length - is the captivating result of a year spent writing. Sharing an obsession with innovation and distillation, the duo merged to create a sonic landscape which vacillates between sensory overload and isolation in a seething void. Many of the songs on "Raw Blood Singing" were penned alone in 2021 by Schechter; they were gutted, reworked and rebirthed when Wyskida joined in 2022.

The outer realms of avant-Metal, psych-Doom, and experimental Goth intersect here, but INSECT ARK fiercely refuses the trappings of simple genre categorization. The band weave a lush, bleak, vast and expansive landscape as they move from whispers of synth to a monstrous wall-of-sound via Schechter's blistering lap steel playing, diabolical bass-work and the mammoth, searing power of Wyskida's drums.

The album title is deeply rooted in the concept of evolution - on both a human and a universal scale – stories of physical beings bound by equal parts unchangeable matter and malleable, shape-shifting energy. The music, too, has evolved beyond INSECT ARK's origin as an instrumental band, adding for the first-time the deep honeyed poison of Schechter's vocals. Showing a penchant for crafting haunted and memorable melodies, the contrast of her smoky voice with the spare, brutal music feels both uncomfortably intimate and icy cold.

Cvlt Nation is hosting an exclusive video premiere for “The Rats I’ve Fed,” from harsh drone/post-industrial act DIMINISHING, the song found on the band’s demoralizing debut album, The Unnamable, released last year through Anti-Corporate Music.

Formed in 2019 by New York-based David Brenner (Gridfailure) and Texas-based Lane Oliver (Yatsu), DIMINISHING is a tense, emotionally devastating project that paints in shades of industrial, dark ambient, drone metal, noise, and more. On The Unnamable, semi-improvisational, destructive guitar work collides with haunting atmospherics, mechanical rhythms, and walls of cacophony to create a soul-crushing sound that resides somewhere between Godflesh, Nurse With Wound, Merzbow, Lustmord, Gnaw Their Tongues, Khanate, and Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral, while thematically exploring existential crises, anxiety in the face of the unknown, and personal failings.

Structured with a wide range of vocals, guitars, bass, keys/synth, percussion, and pedal effects, the dense tracks on The Unnamable were performed, recorded, and mixed by David Brenner and Lane Oliver, largely throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns. Mastering for the album was handled by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering (Kool Keith, Steve Von Till, Krieg, Thetan), and the photography, design, and visuals were created by Brenner.

As with the album’s two prior videos, the visual accompaniment for “The Rats I’ve Fed” was filmed by DIMINISHING, directed and edited by David Brenner.

Oliver writes, “‘The Rats I’ve Fed’ deals with the stress and burnout that comes with taking on more than you can handle. It’s about constantly giving yourself to things and people that give nothing in return. It’s about having your bandwidth depleted and becoming a mental wreck.”

Cvlt Nation writes, “The music of DIMINISHING is unsettling in a sonically creepy sort of way... Imagine if your whole reality was stuck on nightmare mode — this is what it’s like allowing this band into your existence.”
