Since 1991 Avulsed have blazed a path through the death metal underground, lead by their talismanic vocalist and front man, Dave Rotten. Albums like the revered Stabwound Orgasm and the supremely destructive Gorespattered Suicide established them as an integral part of the scene and their live performances remain legendary for their furious intensity. Yet, since 2013s Ritual Zombi, the band haven’t released a full length album of new material, with some members seeming to lose the passion and creative spark that is so vital for a band like the turbo-charged Avulsed. However, rumours of Avulsed’s imminent demise have now been dealt a savage death blow, with the Spanish kings of extremity erupting from the shadows once more with a rejuvenated line-up and a new album that is set to propel the band to new heights of horror! Prepare for the skull crushing onslaught of Phoenix Cryptobiosis!
Even those fully aware of the huge potential of Avulsed to deliver pulverising brutality of the highest order will be shocked by just what a potent weapon Phoenix Cryptobiosis is. The influx of new members has lead to an astonishing rebirth of this heaviest of bands. The song writing is stronger than it’s ever been, each track steeped in atmosphere and exuding a malicious radiance of absolutely classic death metal. The individual performances are staggering – from the inhuman vocal roar to the riffs that deftly dissect the helpless listener, the monolithic underpinning of the bass and the breathtaking, bone-snapping drumming to the solos that climb and dive, the flickering notes like motes of light dancing in the heat of a funeral pyre.
