A lifetime of searching, everything sacrificed upon the altar of my all-consuming quest to know, to understand, to have every ancient secret revealed. I have followed paths of pain and degradation, bent the knee to unspeakable masters to uncover the key to the next locked door. I have murdered, tortured, torn apart, cast aside, betrayed and butchered…and in the end I burn with all the other fools. Broken beneath his laughing gaze, wreathed in flame, despair and shame. Seduced by the hypnotising vortex of dark knowledge…just another empty vessel who sold his soul for nothing.
Fourteen years in the making and a full fifteen years since their debut album, Victim Of Wicked Sickness, was released…finally the second album from Russia’s brutal death metal force, Cranial Osteotomy is here! Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge is an irresistible, unstoppable surge of soul devouring power that will shatter your body and haunt the hidden chambers of your mind.
‘Praecursor’ is an introductory descent into darkness, an ominous welcome to the hell that is then unleashed by ‘Thanatomorpheus’! This brute of a track comes crawling out of the stygian shadows before bursting into blood hungry life with formidable drums and thick, gore-stained guitars that snarl and scream. An imposing vocal presence seizes you by the throat and vomits forth a guttural chaos of ritual, invocation, nightmares and death. After a warped, winding strand of guitar melody the song collapses to a conclusion like rancid, dissolving flesh…from which arises ‘Dipping Into Sombre Quagmire’ in a blaze of energy, before splintering into staggered, grinding riffs that descend into sickening, squirming sludge – still lashing out unpredictably in unexpected moments. There is no respite from the horror as the vortex continues to spin…’Structures Of Decadence Impurity’ attacks with skin flaying velocity before colliding with immovable granite blocks of staggering weight with dire implications for muscle and bone, ‘Cathedral Butchery Feast’ is a magnificent, organ crushing assault of merciless death…on and on, with no shred of pity, until ‘Scorched Diadem’ delivers its focussed destruction with an aura of dark, arcane power, dragging you into one more black hole of twisted imagination and horror before slipping away into sibilant echoes and finally, silence. It’s been an undeniably long wait, but you’ll be too busy screaming to worry about that when Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge drags you inexorably into its maelstrom of madness.
Mixing and mastering for Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge was carried out by Impulse and Gravestone studios respectively and the results are decimating. With the full package completed by the awesome artwork of Marco Hasmann (Kraanium, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Vile etc), Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge will be set loose upon the world by Comatose Music on July 10th. This is destined to be one of the heaviest releases this year!
