PROTOKULT have been defining folk/pagan metal since 2009 when they released their debut album “Ancestral Anthems”, since then they have created three additional uncompromising and relentless albums with their fifth “Transcending The Ruins” coming out on October 1, 2020.

Over two years in the making, “Transcending The Ruins” is a rush, meant to be enjoyed either as a whole journey or at any entry point, the band ensures. Approaching this record with a bit more maturity and consistency, the result is heavier, faster, darker. 

Inspired and fascinated by various metal genres alongside folk-culture, after a few years of experimenting, Protokult was meant to fuse the two together while paying homage to the past, Bacchanalian festivities, and honouring the underground. 

For fans of Arkona, Korpiklaani, and Nightwish, the record pulsates from start to finish yet incorporates the massive dynamics, ambience, and dashes of folk-melodies that the band has become known for.

Dark melodic death metal as reminiscence to the 90s.

Powerfull riffs, earthly grooves and bestial vocals paint a dystopian picture of fall and decline of modern society.

Formed in 2017 by Andreas Huber and Roman Kolesnik, the band completed their lineup with Michael Frick (ex-Horns of Hattin, ex-Theotoxin) on vocals, Morgane Rake (ex-Black Coven) on guitars and Hannes Sandrini (Obsidian Chamber, Candles and Wraths, ex-Horns of Hattin) on bass.

In 2018 Vermocracy started to perform live in and around Vienna - supporting, amongst others, bands like Infest, Helgrind and Nervcell and performing at the STP Metal Weekend 2019.

In September 2020 Vermocracy‘s self-titled album was digitally released on Google play music, Apple iTunes and Spotify. A physical release will follow in autumn 2020. The album was recorded at the Consequent Audio Studio and mixed by Norbert Leitner.

The artwork was done by Armin Stocker.

A personal note from Tom Reynolds about the creation of Consumed By Black Thoughts and his own struggles with mental illness that inspired these powerful songs...

“I have written this EP from my own perspective of living with a mental illness. I often find that mental illness tends to be romanticized by the media and vapid celebrities who seem to think it’s an interesting personality accessory. I wanted to talk about living with mental illness from a human perspective, not as a way to glean sympathy or to feel sorry for myself but to just tell the truth. Living with an untreated mental illness is fucking horrible! I can’t say at any point it has been romantic! Though I have gone through treatment and I am on psychoactive medication it still affects my life from time to time. Obviously, things are much better than they have been in years but this is something I am probably never going shake off completely.”
