'Loosely based around the tale of the Ellimist, this album births a sonic universe detailing Toomin's journey as he transcends his corporeal form to become an omnipotent being beyond the reaches of the very fabric of reality. A unique blend of modern progressive metal which incorporates crushing guitar work, dynamic vocals that flow from brutal to ethereal seamlessly; voiceover passages, and sound effects which hone and craft the storyline while simultaneously capturing the listener's attention to transport them to another world; this album dives deep into themes of great and devastating loss, re-discovery, exploration, eternity, and nothingness, all while telling a familiar story in a completely novel way. This first offering from Ellimist is surely not one to miss!'

"IN THIS, the 10th track on the album; we describe the internal conflict between Toomin and the hive-mind creature 'Father'; the sponge-like, moon-sized behemoth living deep within the oceans of the blue moon. Capturing any wandering ships which stray too close to the waters, Father ensnares the bodies (and minds) of those unlucky enough to fall into his web. In this song, Toomin contemplates his constant losses in Father's games, which take place in mental simulations of various scenarios derived from the memories of the captured. He experiences the abject horror of being left to drift in an ocean of corpses, surrounded by the bodies of the last Ketrans, slowly giving way to an ever-present existential dread; until, that is, by chance, he glimpses the path to victory with his discovery of music. Music changes Toomin profoundly, and with his mastery of the game of music, he is finally able to turn the tables on Father, absorbing the captive minds in Father's possession in the process, thwarting Father, escaping his tethers, and destroying the blue moon. With this, Toomin begins his transcendence into the Ellimist, a biomechanical, intergalactic being of immense strength, and embarks on his journey to find his place in the universe as the cosmic do-gooder..."

RASCAL WHACK RELEASE "MALIVENI"

Rascal Whack, is a five-member Heavy Rock band from Athens that was created in 2013. Their new album is called Maliveni and through it they redefine themselves and tell us a new story.

Maliveni was released on June 24th and includes 8 compositions. Although they remain faithful to the heavy rock genre that they serve & prefer, the grunge, stoner & heavy metal references are very intense in every song. That creates a very familiar and comfortable – almost old fashioned - atmosphere for the listener, however they carry a unique aesthetic and sensitivity.

The word Maliveni, means «cedar-forest» and is an area that literally exists in the suburbs of the city of Athens. The album describes the arrogant expansion of the city, its suffocating character and the effect that has on people, constantly asks for more and gives less and less. Maliveni is the antithesis of this chaos. The return to the roots, the aim to pay attention to our inner self as human beings, the need to live authentically, away from supposed patterns and idols.

This is Maliveni. The escape, the sacred place of redefining and distancing oneself from ignorance and deception.

REBEL PRIEST RELEASE "LOST IN TOKYO" EP

Vancouver’s Rebel Priest took a trip to Japan in 2019 and from the drunken debauchery they wrote a few songs, now being released as a four-track EP, the aptly named “Lost In Tokyo”. The second single off the EP is the second track “Back Alley Blues”.

Instead of a full-length concept album, Rebel Priest decided to make a punchy, succinct EP. They set the tone on each single by adding a few similar elements which bind them together on the album as a whole but each track is a juggernaut on its own and will stand strong independently. “Back Alley Blues” is a slinking little ditty about an imaginary place that is half sunset strip, half Detroit rock city, and about hanging with your crew. The band explains further:

“Imagine if you will, you’re a stray cat, walking down the street. You come across a mean old junkyard dog, you’re not afraid ‘cause you're a tough-as-nails, street thug. The dog starts barking, you keep walking, and the smell of a kitty of the other persuasion is in the air. You’re now hotter than on a summer day, you see an alley with an intoxicating scent. As you walk down the place you feel most at home, your nostrils spike because there is something else in the air. As you get to the end of the alley you see the kitty you have been looking for and they have a bag of catnip. That's just the beginning of your night.”

Lived experiences, vivid imagery, and wild rock n roll is the name of the game for Rebel Priest. The writing process for the band is simple and organic, the result of them working together previously and being no strangers to their craft. They will write a riff, work on it together, and then if it has wings, they let it fly. There is no microscope to put tracks under and obsess over, in this world of autotune and time-shifting, it’s all about trying to find the ghost in the machine, and Rebel Priest is bringing the Ouiji board!

Greasy, smooth, and catchy, “Back Alley Blues” is recommended for fans of ZZ Top, Rose Tattoo, and Deep Purple.
