‘Servants of the Outer Dark’ is the debut record by Vancouver death metal monsters THIRTEEN GOATS—a sonic trip that winds down the most twisted sections of extreme metal’s memory lane on a journey to wicked new horizons. The band weaves together conventions from numerous extreme metal subgenres on songs that range from topical to tongue-in-cheek—some songs have a serious social message, and others are about cooking and eating your enemies. The album title is also a reference to the band’s name—the band’s mascot, Shepherd, is an antichrist figure who wears a goat skull mask, appearing throughout time and space to commit various evil acts with the help of twelve demon goats who function as his disciples. Together, they are THIRTEEN GOATS—and Servants of the Outer Dark.

Their combination of black and death metal elements spiced with engaging sounds and a huge dose of unique melodies is quite an experience. The lyrics which are being sung in English and Belarus sets them even more apart from other bands within their field. “Fog Is Everywhere” lives up to its name by creating a foggy atmosphere before MASSEN starts the hunt through the mist. The energy level of “Born By The Raven Claws” is just relentless, but in all its rage there’s still a lot of space for atmospheric strings and anthemic vocal lines. After the fog and the ravens’ claws, the listener experiences how it must feel like “When Everything Fades”. Chris Harms (the mastermind behind Lord Of The Lost) lends his voice as a guest singer for the epic finale of this outstanding EP.

The three tracks have been recorded at TDS & Vibe Studio (Minsk, Belarus). Mick Kenney mixed and mastered the first two tracks while Borknagar’s very own Øystein G. Brun mixed the closing track “When Everything Fades” with Tony Lindgren (Amorphis, Katatonia, Opeth…) at the helm of the mastering process. The fantastic artwork was once again done by Costin Chioreanu (At The Gates, Arch Enemy…).

Following an international cassette release, BAT MAGIC's Feast of Blood is finally slated to be released on vinyl by American label and merch dealer Labyrinth Tower.

Following an antihero into the grips of vampirism and dark magicks, BAT MAGIC's 2021 debut took the latter half of black metal's tag and concentrated heavily on the genre's metallic roots. A riff-heavy affair with nods to the greats and lesser known artists alike, Feast of Blood's bloodthirsty attack is an overwhelming affair of black metal, heavy metal, and many other styles thrown into a ferocious meat grinder, garnering praise from Stereogum, Decibel Magazine, No Clean Singing, and many other forward-thinking metal publications.

ESCARNIUM are one of the longest standing bands on the  Redefining Darkness roster and these Brazilian maniacs have become like an extended family to me. I am very happy to announce that after a six year hiatus due to many factors, they are back and stronger than ever. We released a MAXI CD in January of this past year to re-introduce them to the world, but this release really marks their return as they will be touring on this the rest of the year starting in Europe in September. 

The first single, Far Beyond Primitive which is such an apt title, just premiered via Invisible Oranges yesterday. I personally see it as their response to the recent wave "raw / primitive" Death Metal movement in the US. They are here to show everyone what's truly primitive, straight from the South American jungle!

New Jersey progressive trio, GATES TO THE MORNING are streaming their new album Walk Between Worlds which is out on July 22nd, 2022.

Walk Between Worlds is the first in a trilogy of albums from GATES TO THE MORNING. It is musically true to the album title as the material contained within spans several different releases. This record features acoustic/unplugged re-imaginations of tracks from Return To Earth as well as re-imaginations of songs that will be featured on future albums that are yet to be released. Finally there are also tracks that are unique to this album alone. Employing dreamlike ambience and atmosphere with more acoustic instruments, Walk Between Worlds is the calm before the storm; a sort of unplugged/folk detour before resuming a sound that will closely follow up their Progressive/Post-Black Metal sound from Return to Earth for the latter two instalments of this trilogy.

Walk Between Worlds is indeed a side-road and a dreamy divergence from the sound GATES TO THE MORNING established on their debut, but perhaps one that will be revisited from time to time as the band has displayed a propensity to be eclectic and wide-ranging since their conception.
