The German Atmospheric/Depressive Black Metal solo project Herbstlethargie was founded by multi-instrumentalist Herbst (also: Gernotshagen, on drums, bass, additional lead guitars, duduk and vocals) to express his very own musical ideas and creativity. The first lyrics date back more than 10 years.

Songwriting took until 2020, and in 2021 the album recording was done with the help of Alboîn (also: Eïs and others) on rhythm and lead guitars, as well as Florian (Sylvaine, Melatonyn) doing guest vocals and Lisa on cello.

Recording info All music and lyrics written by Herbst.

Guitars, Bassguitar and Drums were recorded at ‘Nightsida Audio‘ – Solingen in May 2021.

Vocals and Duduk were recordet at the Gernotshagen Headquarter – Trusetal in July 2021

Cello from Lisa and Guest-Vocals from Florian were recorded on their own.

Deer rutting sounds recorded by Herbst in September 2020 in the Thuringian Forest.

Astral Spectre was founded in 2020 by Tenebros as a solo project. It is a blend of harsh 1st wave Black Metal vocals and guitar riffs that evoke the unique feeling of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Inspired by classic rock of the 70s, a hammond organ is also included in the soundscape. This modern interpretation of old-school Heavy Metal and Occult Rock with Black Metal vocals has come to be known as Magick Metal in recent years.

The first three songs were written and recorded in 2020, while the mixing and mastering was done in 2021, leading to the release of the demo „The Oath is Broken“ on two limited runs of self-produced cassette tapes.

About one year later, in the first half of 2022, the debut album „Phantom Nightmare“ was finished, including a guest performance and co-songwriter credits of Befana with clarinet and flute.

The album has first been released as a self-produced tape and marks the beginning of the cooperation of Astral Spectre and Northern Silence Productions, who will release it first on limited Digi-2CD together with the demo on a bonus CD (Sep 9th, 2022) and in 2023 on LP. At the same time the album and demo will also be released in separate CD editions, incl. the new track "Running for the Dawn" as a bonus on the demo CD.

The album may have a death metal foundation, but the band manage to work black metal elements and inspiration into the very fabric of its being. There’s a real bite to both the guitar tone and a malicious energy to the music that can only be found on black metal releases.

The primal brutality of death metal pairs perfectly with the raw emotional essence of black metal to create a storm of chaotic energy.

Every so often the listener is also hit with some slow, heavy, depressive doom elements that the band have thrown into the mix.

Overall, the album is a fantastic example of why bands that sit in the realm between defined genres are some of the most captivating. Prepare to be annihilated by Imperathron ’s unique brand of extreme metal.
