I have murdered, tortured, torn apart, cast aside, betrayed and butchered…and in the end I burn with all the other fools. Broken beneath his laughing gaze, wreathed in flame, despair and shame. Fourteen years in the making and a full fifteen years since their debut album, Victim Of Wicked Sickness, was released…finally the second album from Russia’s brutal death metal force, Cranial Osteotomy is here! Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge is an irresistible, unstoppable surge of soul devouring power that will shatter your body and haunt the hidden chambers of your mind.

‘Praecursor’ is an introductory descent into darkness, an ominous welcome to the hell that is then unleashed by ‘Thanatomorpheus’! This brute of a track comes crawling out of the stygian shadows before bursting into blood hungry life with formidable drums and thick, gore-stained guitars that snarl and scream. An imposing vocal presence seizes you by the throat and vomits forth a guttural chaos of ritual, invocation, nightmares and death. After a warped, winding strand of guitar melody the song collapses to a conclusion like rancid, dissolving flesh…from which arises ‘Dipping Into Sombre Quagmire’ in a blaze of energy, before splintering into staggered, grinding riffs that descend into sickening, squirming sludge – still lashing out unpredictably in unexpected moments. There is no respite from the horror as the vortex continues to spin…’Structures Of Decadence Impurity’ attacks with skin flaying velocity before colliding with immovable granite blocks of staggering weight with dire implications for muscle and bone, ‘Cathedral Butchery Feast’ is a magnificent, organ crushing assault of merciless death…on and on, with no shred of pity, until ‘Scorched Diadem’ delivers its focussed destruction with an aura of dark, arcane power, dragging you into one more black hole of twisted imagination and horror before slipping away into sibilant echoes and finally, silence. It’s been an undeniably long wait, but you’ll be too busy screaming to worry about that when Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge drags you inexorably into its maelstrom of madness.

Mixing and mastering for Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge was carried out by Impulse and Gravestone studios respectively and the results are decimating. With the full package completed by the awesome artwork of Marco Hasmann (Kraanium, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Vile etc), Vortex Of The Dark Knowledge will be set loose upon the world by Comatose Music on July 10th. This is destined to be one of the heaviest releases this year!

Titanic Russian death metal force, Grond, have returned and are ready, once again, to take us down to the depths of the ocean, beyond the reach of light. An ambitious and imaginative concept album entwining the story of decorated First World War German U-boat commander, Otto Eduard Weddigen, with H.P. Lovecraft’s chilling tale of subaquatic madness from which the album takes its name, The Temple is a heavyweight masterpiece of atmosphere and devastating death metal. It’s been ten long years since the last Grond album, Worship The Kraken’, with only the 2019 split release with Graceless – Endless Spiral Of Terror – to break the silence of a decade; but The Temple has been more than worth the wait and will have fans welcoming the band home like the proverbial prodigal sons.

‘Rotten Himmel’ begins the process of submersion, immediately drawing the listener into the darkness beneath the waves and introducing the superb lead guitar work which plays such a pivotal role throughout the album to come. From this opening sequence Grond’s grip upon us is unbreakable and there is no turning back, no escape until the final desolate tones of ‘Dark Solitude Of The Sea’. Everything about this album feels huge – from the towering riffs to the earthshaking drums and the bass infused with the weight of worlds. And then there is the colossal voice of founder member, Kist; each reverberating roar seeming to emit from the throat of an ancient monstrosity of staggering scale. Between the gargantuan vocal exhortations and the intimidating riffs the lead guitar works its magic, conjuring claustrophobic horror in ‘Pour Le Merite’, bringing a haunting madness to ‘U29’ with its strange, liquid melodies and screaming through the smoke and fire of ‘Dreadnought’… The Temple just gets better and better as it progresses, with ‘Radiant Fury’ bringing you to your knees before the power of ancient gods, helpless before their grotesque majesty, as elemental, vertiginous chaos resolves into irresistible, utterly satisfying riffs and chord sequences. Title track, ‘The Temple’, is a sanity destroying, lurching monstrosity – both regal and shockingly violent – while ‘Dark Solitude Of The Sea’ is a superb conclusion, bringing together all the dark secrets, howling madness, desperation and death that has come before in great, seething riffs, enticing melodies and an atmosphere to drown in…

For more than twenty years Frozen Ocean has brought us a staggering array of musical gifts; journeys that have taken us from the depths of space to the worlds of Tove Jansson’s literary creations, from Norse mythology to complex internal landscapes – riding on the wings of cold black metal and textured ambience – dramatic and visionary works. Now Vaarwel, the creative spirit behind the Frozen Ocean name, has returned with another sonic dream to ignite our imaginations and transport us to new dimensions. We enter the world of Askdrömmar along the moon road, ‘Mångata’ – both frightening and fascinating in equal measure. Already the light behind you is but a pinprick in the distance as the city begins to swallow you. The melodic, gothic doom inflections of ‘Bortkastade dödsrunor’ draw you deeper still and it becomes clear that these songs are creating an environment as well as a narrative and atmosphere – listening to Askdrömmar is to explore the secret streets of this dark urban domain. As you reach ‘Jag sover’ you are haunted by the city, surrounded by it, consumed by it, lost in its labyrinthine heart. The melancholy melodies twist through the night time world and the chosen language of presentation with its harsh poetry invokes imagery while avoiding definite definition. The liquid keys of ‘I lyktornas sken’ move between the pools of light that punctuate the blackness, creating unfathomable depths and innumerable layers, possessing the power to hypnotise and enthral. From the sinuous lament of ‘Köttkvarn’ with its bewitching despair, through the frantic fear of ‘Långt lopp genom mörkret’ to the beautiful, humbling conclusion of ‘Brunkebergstunneln’, Vaarwel has created nothing less than magic. Askdrömmar is the most powerful and affecting Frozen Ocean work to date – and that is some achievement.

"If someone had told me 15 years ago that the main themes of my most sincere album will be nostalgia and homesickness, I wouldn’t take this seriously – but fate, it seems, has a very peculiar sense of humor. The Diary was born as an attempt to rethink the loss of literally everything and to find at least some solid ground under my feet. Usually, when we evaluate the artist’s professionalism and craftsmanship, we use his ability to express (or imitate – depends on how you look at it) emotions as a main criterion – I, in case of The Diary, tried to make the opposite and to sound as detached and contemplative as possible – and still, when I listen to this album, I cannot get rid of the feeling that I let out too much. 

Letters From The Past is clearly one of the centerpieces of the album and it is the only song that contains a glimmer of hope in it. It was also a serious challenge to our video production team (Olga Kann and Alex Rabets) to visualize its essence (editing of existing memories after accumulation of new data), so it is a very complex and multilayered work – not many will get it (and it is completely fine) but those who will, will definitely enjoy it and return to it more than once.

After the completion and release of The Diary I don’t really feel like writing new songs (as I said – I’ve already let out too much), but I feel a strong urge to perform these tracks live, so, despite the obvious difficulty of our situation, we have big plans of returning to the stage. Hope to see you at the festivals next season!"

Train to Elsewhere presents our new album. This will be a completely different listening experience than our previous albums. This work, while featuring some elements of doom metal and even stoner, takes a much more chamber music approach and utilizes heavily elements of neoclassical, gothic, post industrial, darkwave and dark ambient music, sometimes even bordering industrial noise (most of it is neither rock nor metal). A special lo-fi approach was taken to the music to outline the raw emotion that is in the concept of this album; elements of field recordings were also used in the mix. First of all, this is a record about Nature, the existential perception of nature by the lyrical protagonists of these songs. This perception is at times problematic and negative, at other times spiritual and enlightening (in the Jungian sense) yet deeply melancholic. One must travel through the shadow to reach the light, yet in the end of the journey Eternal Autumn triumphs. With this work Train to Elsewhere finishes the "Autumn Trilogy" which we started in 2020 with "Samhain". For some time after this release we, as a band, are going to be "on hold"; the members of Train to Elsewhere will focus on other musical projects, and, when the time comes, in the future we will reunite to praise the Eternal Autumn once again. We all wish to thank all our listeners who supported us!
