GOURMAND RELEASE "TO BRING TO NOTHING" EP

PRESS RELEASE:

Gourmand

To Bring To Nothing

Self-Released

26 November 2021

Although trends will always come and go, quality metal music of any stripe always has a shot at cutting through the noise and making their passion-driven intentions clear.

For Kansas City, Missouri-based progressive death metallers Gourmand, the idea of eclectic quality-driven material is already baked into their band's name itself, which means to be a lover of food, gluttony, and or a connoisseur in an abstract sense as the band uses it. It's an ethos tied to the passion for many different kinds of art which lies at the heart of what Gourmand is about. All of which is on display on and their new EP, To Bring To Nothing, which is a further evolution and shift for a group already adept at covering a wide range of sounds and styles. To Bring To Nothing is set for release on November 26th.

Active since 2015, Gourmand has maintained a constant presence in both live and studio settings, creating what they consider to be a mix of "traditional death metal, prog rock, symphonic cello driven ideas, and more." Their most recent effort, 2019's "Emanate" EP, re-worked songs from their stellar 2017 debut album, "The Inquisitionist", although it was their second full-length from 2018, "Blossoming From The Grave" that was pushed harder promotion wise and really put the band on the map as a quality progressive death metal act.

Now at the end of 2021, Gourmand eagerly returns with "To Bring To Nothing", a hard-hitting three-song EP of their darkest and most aggressive material yet. Aided by explosive percussive contributions from Marasmus (Transcending Obscurity Records) Unmerciful (Willowtip Records) drummer Trynt Kelly on session drums, undoubtedly one of the most exceptional death metal drummers in the scene right now. Fellow Marasmus member, bassist Ben Harvey is a also member of Gourmand.

Gourmand - To Bring To Nothing Release Statement From The Band

“We feel this is the most mature material we have put out to date. Change was inevitable with this release. Not only because we had our first lineup change since our inception, but also because we have grown a lot personally and in musical taste since our earlier days. The sound on To Bring To Nothing is more aggressive, darker, and definitely faster, and we are embracing these elements in our sound as we lean into our death metal roots. Though our progressive tendencies took a back seat on this EP we still wanted to incorporate the melodic sound that has shaped us from the beginning which can be heard in every song, even if it’s less than our previous records. We think this release will represent the closing of a chapter and introduce a new sound that incorporates both our traditional and progressive identities to the fullest extent.”

Gourmand - To Bring To Nothing will appeal to fans of bands that inspired this material including Death, Misery Index, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Opeth. Along with intersecting at times with material that fans of Psycroptic, Entheos, Origin, Ulcerate, and Meshuggah will enjoy as well.

ILIUM RELEASE "QUANTUM EVOLUTION EVENT"

PRESS RELEASE:

Ilium

Quantum Evolution Event

14 January 2022

Melding dark supernatural and sci-fi themes with an exploration of the human condition and the natural world, ILIUM create a huge melodic sound combining influences from power, traditional, progressive, thrash and symphonic metal. Quantum Evolution Event follows the release of ILIUM’s 2020 album Carcinogeist and its accompanying EP Enviro-Metal.

Hailing from Newcastle, Australia, ILIUM released their debut, self-titled EP in 2002. Working with a wealth of guest musicians and producers over the years including Mike DiMeo (RIOT, MASTERPLAN), Tommy Hansen (HELLOWEEN, PAGAN’S MIND, PRETTY MAIDS) and Lance King (BALANCE OF POWER, AVIAN), Quantum Evolution Event is no different. The new EP features long-time collaborators Tim Yatras (DUNGEON, LORD, GERM) on drums  and Lord Tim  (LORD, BLACKENED ANGEL, FROMBEYOND) on vocals and production.

Striving to further develop their sound with each release, the dynamic outfit deliver epic lead melodies and solos and soaring vocals, and compose arrangements designed with dramatic impact in mind. Quantum Evolution Event opens with a flourish of melodic theatrics in the title track. Harsh distortion from the guitars and powerful percussion is balanced with ethereal synths and harmony filled vocals. ILIUM pack a real punch with strong guitar driven rhythms creating heavier sounds in "Undergods" and "Hostile Sky". Contrasting these elements with highly intricate riffs and charismatic voices.

Explosive energy fuels the new release with each track bringing an epic intensity. The instrumentation throughout Quantum Evolution Event explores a vast array metal subgenres and yet ILIUM fuse them into their own distinctive style.

HER HIGHNESS RELEASE "VISIONS OF A LOWER LIFE"

PRESS RELEASE:

Her Highness — Visions of a Lower Life (12/10/2021, addicted label)

(stoner doom, sludge, noise, Budapest)

https://band.link/7pQkJ smart link •

Visions of a Lower Life offers six hymns of despondent sludge, laced with classic doom metal riffing, otherworldly psychedelia, additional noises and dissonant sickness. The carefully planned methods of recording allow the songs to bear multiple layers of instrumentation, resulting in an overwhelming wall of sound. As the band's other works, the album is also to be interpreted in its entirety, having most of the tracks merging into each other, causing a continuity of unpleasant journeys.

Line-up:

K.T. – (s)low end, noises, ambience

K.A. – drums

Liner-notes:

Possibilities in a Deviant Rebirth

An introduction to the monotonous psychosis that follows, a simple bass riff with tons of feedback and sound manipulation. A long existing idea which took its final form in the studio. The title was indirectly inspired by some parts of J.G. Ballard’s novel “Crash”, but it chillingly aligns with the band’s and the world’s current state as well.

Adversaries of Society

A new abomination born from a riff dating back to at least 2016, doom riffing feeding on strong Bongripper and Electric Wizard influences with ill twists.

The Burnt Offering

The oldest song on the album, resembling the material of the first demo. An ever-forming monotonous musical sacrifice to the nearing doomsday.

Acceptance and Annihilation

The aim is the greatest dissonance that could be achieved, the result is a eulogy to Jeff Vandermeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy.

Knocked Out on Heaven’s Floor

Extremes of the scale between Tartaros and Elysium in every aspect, the latter only to be revealed as a psychedelic illusion. The title is also an obvious mockery of a certain popular rock song, and, in fact, popular songs in general.

In Ceaseless Falling

The end which has no end. The same theme unfolding itself onwards to eternity.
