In the winter of 2008, Black Pestilence emerged from the frozen, windswept prairies of Canada, conjured by bassist/vocalist Valax. Initially, Black Pestilence was a one-man studio project, but years afterward, it evolved into a three-piece band and remains in that form. Over time, Black Pestilence has become known for an instantly recognizable sound that combines black metal, punk rock, and noise. To date, the band has released six full-length albums and two EPs. This impressive discography expands this year with “Chaotic Wisdom”, which further expands on lyrical themes including LaVeyan Satanism, current events, social issues, and the glorification of the epicurean lifestyle. Valax shares his thoughts on the first single off the album, “The Devil’s Connection”:

“The Devil’s Connection addresses the advantages of having an open mind. As esoteric as some scenarios might be, it will allow one to adapt to any situation. ”

According to Valax, fans will get the same infectious sound this band is known for but with a different style of production. On this album, it sounds a bit darker and more analog. For example, they used various different mic techniques for recording the guitars which added a very different overall sound. Each member of the trio spent more time recording their parts which results in a much better performance than the last album.

Black Pestilence started out as very chaotic black metal with small hints of punk rock and lots of noise. After, it slowly evolved into a punk rock structure with black metal vocals. Now it is much more catchy with shorter song lengths. Their chaotic black metal ’n’ roll is recommended for fans of Midnight, Toxic Holocaust, and Impaled Nazarene.

Hailing from Bogota, RECKLESS are a Colombian speed metal band formed in 2019 by vocalist/guitarist W. Metalbringer. He was soon joined by bassist Jawbreaker, who brings a solid & heavy foundation to their compositions; drummer Rites666, who drives the band’s frantic pace; and guitarist Spitfire, who complements the main riffing with blistering, passionate solos. With a solid foundation of Judas Priest, Accept, Running Wild, Slayer, Exodus, and Mercyful Fate, RECKLESS soon made their public debut with the two-song Relentless Assault / Prisoner single. Through those influences, the quartet displayed a distinct synthesis of thrash metal propulsion and classic heavy metal melodicism, arriving at a style of speed metal that’s timeless and fresh.

Now, RECKLESS burst forth with a full display of their powers and potential, the debut album Sharp Magick Steel. Almost too perfectly titled, Sharp Magick Steel is a cruising and chrome-encased blast of judiciously tight aggression and invigorating, streamlined songwriting. RECKLESS here invoke their namesake by pushing the pedal to the literal metal, pumping pistons and pushing each of these eight songs forward with a locomotive thrust, but it’s equally the deceptively patient execution which makes Sharp Magick Steel cut so thoroughly: these four metal warriors are totally in control, and they make it look – and sound – almost too easy. Decibel Magazine is currently streaming Lie In Wait, the debut EP from Portland death metal trio THANAMAGUS. The premiere comes in advance of the EP’s official release on October 27th via Carbonized Records in the US and Seed Of Doom Records in Europe.

THANAMAGUS is Jonatan Quintana (Ritual Necromancy, Decrepisy), Nick Alosio, and Charlie Koryn (Ascended Dead, Funebrarum). Forged in 2019 and inspired by the likes of Kreator, Dark Angel, Insanity, and Immolation, together the band set out on a mission to push their musical limits towards faster, darker, and more brutal horizons. Following their two-track Incorporeal Passage demo, THANAMAGUS’ Lie In Wait EP wields a vicious, schizophrenic brand of death metal punctuated by lyrical themes centered around death worship, disembodiment, and the afterlife. Recorded at The Underworld Studios by Charlie Koryn and mixed and mastered at Subterranean Watchtower Studio by Damian Herring, the release includes bass guitar performed by Vince Blank and features the band at its most savage and inhuman.
