Genre-defying Dutch death metal legends PESTILENCE have singled-out and re-recorded twelve emblematic anthems from across their 38-year career into "Levels of Perception".

Patrick Mameli - whose signature vocal, guitar and songwriting skills constitute the hallmark of PESTILENCE - finds "Levels of Perception" to be a testament to the band's role in death metal's progression. "I've always wanted to do a best-of album, because it would mean that I've achieved something in the past; something that still has its value today," Mameli reflects. "To be able to choose from songs that I composed in the distant past, transporting them into the now, with the line-up of the recordings that consisted of Michiel van der Plicht (drums), Rutger van Noordenburg (guitar) and Joost van der Graaf (bass) - I found this to be of great value and sheer awesomeness."

Re-recording of the tracks has not only managed to breathe new life into them - half thanks to new line-up, and other half by implementing subtle changes which reflect Mameli's matured vision and refined with years of experience aesthetic - but also sets them apart from cheap, unimaginative compilations, by unifying the album's sound as befits a full-length release. "The album's title is Levels of Perception. Why? Because this is what has happened with the songs," Mameli explains. "Performed by different musicians, with their own views, musical abilities and interpretations, shining a new light on them. So here we are with new Levels of Perception."

The drums for "Levels of Perception" were recorded by Michiel van der Plicht in 2021, during a live stream held in T Paard (The Hague, NL). "These recorded drum tracks were so awesome that we just had to use them, fine-tuning the guitars and bass," Mameli comments. These and other re-recordings were done with Reaper behind the console at van der Plicht's own studio On Duty in Mijdrecht, NL. The latter engineered, mixed and mastered the album. "I've started to realize, after recording Exitivm, that when you can engineer, mix and master by yourself, the control over your own product is way bigger, through the honesty and passion for your own compositions; rather than hiring an engineer that has no feel for your music," PESTILENCE's frontman wraps up.

Drawing inspiration from diverse influences ranging from Toto, Cardiacs, Fishbone, and Frank Zappa, "Pork Grind Vol. 1" is a whirlwind of sonic exploration. Brian Worth shares, "I began work on the Pork Grind EP in late 2019, but got quickly sidetracked by the pandemic. When I came back to it in early 2021, I knew I wanted to make a 'fun' death metal album, as a reaction to the horrible year that we had all gone through."

As the sole official member of Acts of Swine, Brian Worth took on a larger role with this release, acting as producer, as well as handling mixing and mastering duties. Collaborators and guests, including Chris "The Crypt" Grant and David Ingram of Benediction, contribute to the EP's eclectic sound, while Brian Worth's wife and daughter even make appearances.

Tracks like "Immurement" and "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" showcase the band's versatility and willingness to experiment, while the Clutch cover "Animal Farm" adds a fresh twist to a classic. The EP's closer, "Choked On My Spit," offers a playful nod to outtakes and bloopers, serving as the perfect conclusion to this wild musical ride.

SINN-INC is a studio project committed to re-recording tracks originally by the French thrash metal band SINN (1998-2013).

Managed by guitarist Mahtai from Paris and with musicians from Canada, Argentina and Italy, SINN-INC presents a compelling fusion of hardcore thrash metal with melodic overtones and occasional subdued atmospheres, complemented by raw and, at times, provocative lyrics.

SINN-INC have successfully recorded 8 tracks, sourced from the SINN's inaugural demo from 1999 and their debut EP released in 2003.

These 8 tracks collectively constitute the first SINN-INC album, entitled "Kill Your Idols," which will be available on January 22nd 2024 on all major digital platforms.

The album artwork has been created by Hungarian artist Csaba Kasik. It symbolizes the struggle to discover the path to freedom of thought, to transcend our certitudes, ingrained thoughts, and ideological, religious, and cultural beliefs. It entails a form of self-renewal, a deliberate annihilation of one's former self—a symbolic suicide paving the way for a more improved rebirth.

The Chilean metal force known as Critical Defiance has something for every thrash fan out there. Not in the sense of being homogenized and generic, but in their alchemical and nearly magical melding of blitzkrieg tempos, dizzying technicality, aggressive shouts and gang vocals, and--rarest of all for a post-1990 thrash act--a healthy dose of actual, memorable melody. Now about to drop their third full-length like a bomb from a warplane, they have added a new element to the mix: just a taste of the eerie melancholy and harsh melodrama of black metal.

Their release schedule has been nearly as fast as their music, with the debut (Misconception) coming in 2019, and its follow-up (No Life Forms) in 2022. They have let even less time elapse from then until this new platter's arrival, taking line-up changes in stride and pushing forward relentlessly regardless. The addition of Mauricio Toledo on guitar (just prior to their previous album) has pushed their music in new directions. That black metal aspect--some tremelo riffing, some blastbeats, bits of a distinctly new melodic sensibility--lends the album an updated feeling that sets it apart from its predecessors, while by no means abandoning the thrash foundation that has served them so well. All of this ambition is well-served by a terrific production job that balances just the right amount of rawness and polish. Three albums in, Critical Defiance are poised to deliver their most ferocious work yet. Angry yet uplifting, full of the spirit of true metal both old and new, it's a record that only these guys could make.
