Since 1989, Germany's Desaster have been churning out their unique and unholy blend of extreme metal, and in 2021 they return with perhaps their most powerful album to-date, the towering Churches Without Saints. "It's a typical Desaster old school black-death-thrash metal album, with a lot of aggression, but also great atmosphere and epic tunes!" enthuses guitarist and founding member Infernal. With a simple remit of making an album full of "neck-breaking songs", the quartet have once again proven themselves leaders in their chosen genres, giving their faithful and newcomers alike plenty to salivate over.

With a five-year gap elapsing since they dropped last album The Oath Of An Iron Ritual, fans have had to be very patient, but will find the results more than worth the wait. This new effort also features Hont taking over behind the kit from previous drummer Tormentor, bringing a welcome change to the way they work. "He's a very skilled drummer and can play really anything. Whereas in the past the songwriting was a lot of 'trial and error' with testing many rhythms, we nowadays can work much more efficiently. Hont knows what rhythms fit to the riffs immediately. He has studied Desaster's music in detail and knows what works best, but he is not just copying Tormentor's style - he brings his own skilled style into the music, and also some new rhythms and figures. That of course brings some fresh wind into the songs."

The record was tracked in the band's rehearsal room and was recorded, mixed and mastered by their live mixer Jan "Janosch" Gensheimer. This led to a very relaxed atmosphere throughout the whole process, having rehearsed a lot prior to recording and also doing a full pre-production demo with their own equipment, meaning they could record very fast and without many mistakes. They did however change things up a little, sonically speaking. "It was a big goal for me to change the sound a bit," says Infernal. "Whereas the last albums had a very harsh sound, where the mid and high frequencies were dominating, I wanted a warmer and smoother sound this time. I always liked the sound of our 'Tyrants of the Netherworld' album from 2000 very much, and the new album is an effort to develop this sound with more details and different instruments. On 'Tyrants', we had the rough mud of deepest hellish caves, now we present you the black lava which is flowing around the throne of Satan himself!" And having achieved everything they set out to, Churches Without Saints definitively starts a new and exciting chapter in one of extreme metal's most consistently thrilling bands.

FEED THEM DEATH STREAMS TRACK FROM NEW ALBUM "NEGATIVE"

PRESS RELEASE:

Acclaimed avantgarde extreme metal project FEED THEM DEATH conspires with Brucia Records to release “Negative”, the project's third full-length album, on May 7th 2021.

Today, Cvlt Nation is premiering a new single off the record. Listen to "The Idiotic Yearning for More (Barbarism of Perfection)" HERE!

In case you missed it, Grizzly Butts hosted an exclusive premiere of the single "The Underworld Unveiled". Check it out at THIS LOCATION!

This highly anticipated new release from FEED THEM DEATH represents the apex of a fierce and tenacious research into the realm of non-conformity, and the culmination of a 3 year long cycle of intense experimentation, deconstruction and remodeling of many extreme metal subgenres into a completely unique and dissonant outlet.

“Negative” is a monumentally ambitious example of unorthodoxy and noncompliance in extreme music, eccentrically fusing the aggressiveness and speed of grindcore with the bleak and menacing heaviness of sludge and doom metal, all set against a backdrop of industrial metal and the tearing frequencies of drone / noise music.

Denouncing the moral decline of our society's descent into darkness with paradoxical simplicity and clarity, “Negative” borrows from the opus of Theodor Adorno to dismantle the chimera of individuality and critical thinking within the cogwheels of consumerism.

An anathema spelt against the culture industry for standardizing all arts and forms of expression, and acknowledging with lancinating lucidity the disingenuousness of all so-called creative achievements - in arts as in underground music - as the mere part of a wider design set to tame individuality.

In perfect symbiosis with the music, the artwork is also raw and yet sophisticated, whimsical but austere, and lavishly minimalist: created by renowned Australian photographer Sophie Gabrielle, the image was photographed a manifold of times, with its negatives sunk in polluted water and then dried allowing microbes to eat away at the negative itself.

Similarly, “Negative” unfolds as a process of negative dialectics, a backdrop of negation set against the stage of the apparent world with the intent to finally make the invisible visible

"Simultaneously crushing and elevating death metal."

- Invisible Oranges

"This is everything technical death metal is supposed to be: nuanced, unpredictable, creative, discordant, brutal, and so much more."

- Last Rites

"Dropping five brutish technical death metal tracks from a great height, the resulting smash that accompanies the landing is deafening. Such is Intonate’s wild flurry of noise, dragged kicking and screaming to a ballsy 40-minute length." (9/10)

- Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

"INTONATE deliver not only an upgrade on their previous album, they set the bar very high with Severed Within. The album should be part of the collection of a wide range of Death Metal fans." (9/10)

- Metal Temple

"Severed Within is an impressive and immersive piece of death metal." (8.5/10)

- Dead Rhetoric

"A triumph of malevolent and atmospheric death."

- Wonderbox Metal

"This is raw, chaotic, corrosive and dark sounding death metal, for fans of the gritty and the filthy."

- The Metal Observer

"It’s one hell of a workout. The entire experience is what it might be like after you were trapped under a slag pile, finding breathing nearly impossible as you slowly black out forever."

- Meat Mead Metal

"The crushing impact of this second highly awaited album reminds us the band’s roots while spreading strength and dissonance in a technical way."

- Acta Infernalis

The album follows the 2016 independent debut The Swerve, itself a penetrating technical death metal experience, complete with progressive flourishes. Severed Within builds upon that foundation, but adds new dimensions and tendencies. The album contains five compositionally magnificent tracks that produce a 40-minute death metal firestorm sure to land on many 2021 year-end lists.

Following the 2016 debut, The Swerve, the new album presents the band’s personal catharsis and reflections on life’s dual offerings constantly struggled with. Musically, the band delivers a more uncompromisingly aggressive and honest sound, while keeping true to its roots.
