PRESS RELEASE:

“Time-Swayed Cities” explores the experience of temporal displacement, the feeling of existing out of sync with the age surrounding you. Throughout the song, modern cityscapes fracture into visions of forgotten eras, future technologies, horse-drawn carriages, collapsing architecture, and shifting reflections of worlds that no longer, or perhaps never did, exist.

Rather than presenting time as linear, the track portrays it as unstable and hostile: a reality where streets bend, buildings recoil, and entire civilizations seem to flicker in and out of view. The lyrics follow a figure unable to locate “their” time, caught between nostalgia, futurism, and the alienation of contemporary life.

The single continues the band’s fascination with psychological portraiture and unstable perception, with the album itself diving into the realm of delusion-related illnesses and fractured realities.

Tracklist:

1. Nostalgia Theft Reminiscence

2. Blank Absurdist Form

3. Gloom-Chaser

4. Holoparasite

5. Time-Swayed Cities

6. Glittering Afterwaves

7. Perennial Shift I - Moss

8. Perennial Shift II - Evergreen

9. Perennial Shift III - Plietesial

10. Mollusk Herald

11. Dream Heritage Veto

12. Trauma Gift Repression

“Shouts from the Cliffs of Heterodoxy” is an hourlong descent into the fractured landscapes of delusion. On their third full-length album, Messier 16 deliver their most ambitious and cohesive statement yet, a record that inhabits its characters as much as it describes them, drawing the listener into worlds where perception and reality blur beyond recognition.

Rather than presenting a single storyline, the album unfolds as a gallery of portraits, each song a self-contained study of a mind caught in its own distortions. The voices here are contradictory, volatile, and human: a nostalgia that grieves for something that never happened, a city dweller unable to recognise the time they live in, a cynic who tears down without ever building, a figure convinced that change can only be granted by others. Together, they form a mosaic of inner worlds — intimate, strange, and often unsettling.

Musically, the record ranges from the precision and velocity of technical black metal to the earthbound weight of doom, the ethereal scope of post-metal, and the stark beauty of choral arrangements. Every shift in style is in service of the narrative, moving seamlessly from moments of brute force to passages of stillness and introspection. The choral bookends, "Nostalgia Theft Reminiscence" and "Trauma Gift Repression", frame the chaos between them like hands holding a fragile sphere, offering both a sense of symmetry and the reminder that beauty and disquiet can occupy the same breath.

At its heart, “Shouts from the Cliffs of Heterodoxy” is not a work of answers, but of questions. It resists resolution, allowing its characters to remain ambiguous, neither condemned nor redeemed. In doing so, it invites the listener to stand on the same cliff edge, to hear the shouts carried by the wind, and to decide for themselves whether they are being beckoned forward — or warned to turn back.

Hailing from Oslo, MESSIER 16 have established a distinct identity within contemporary progressive metal through a sound that is intricate, inventive and at times deliberately unconventional, yet always marked by a strong sense of elegance and compositional coherence. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Ihsahn, Enslaved and Devin Townsend, the band embraces a forward-thinking approach where extreme metal serves as the starting point for a broader and highly personal sonic exploration. Heavy rhythmic structures, layered guitar work and sharp dynamic contrasts coexist with atmospheric passages, orchestral textures and emotionally driven songwriting, resulting in a musical language that remains adventurous without ever losing sight of structure and songcraft.

The band consists of Jonas Eide (guitars, composer, lyricist), Sondre M. Svalastog (vocals), Aleksander Ilievski (guitars, producer), Nicolo Cavallaro (bass) and Jonathan Hamre (drums). Through their work, MESSIER 16 have developed a deeply narrative and expressive approach, exploring psychological and emotional themes through a form of portrait-like lyricism focused on the inner lives of individuals and the actions stemming from them.

Their previous albums, “Iota” and “Death Poems”, already showcased the band’s ambition and conceptual depth. While the former dealt with mental health struggles and emotional fragility, the latter drew inspiration from publicly available suicide notes, confronting themes of despair and human vulnerability with striking intensity and sensitivity.

Now preparing to unveil their third full-length album, MESSIER 16 further refine their sonic identity while venturing into new musical and lyrical territory. The upcoming record promises a more mature and expansive vision of the band’s progressive approach, balancing technical sophistication, atmospheric depth and emotional resonance within a highly cohesive framework.

HASEROT RELEASE NEW SINGLE: "CURSE OF HASEROT" FEAT JAMES MURPHY & ANDY LAROCQUE

PRESS RELEASE:

Houston, Texas death metal band Haserot have unveiled Curse of Haserot, the third single from their upcoming debut full-length album, Advent of Suffering.

Named after the band itself, Curse of Haserot emerged from a collaborative writing process and serves as one of the album's defining moments. Built upon riffs inspired by classic acts such as Celtic Frost and Morbid Angel, the track combines crushing mid-tempo heaviness with a dark and memorable atmosphere. Lyrically, the song explores the pursuit of salvation through misguided means, ultimately ending in negation and cold oblivion despite one's best intentions.

The song also features special guest appearances from legendary guitarists James Murphy (Death, Obituary, Testament) and Andy LaRocque (King Diamond), who trade solos with Haserot guitarist Maurice Eggenschwiler during the track's extended finale. Originally conceived as a musical call-and-response inspired by the band's admiration for the lead work found on classic releases from Death, Obituary, and King Diamond, the collaboration evolved into one of the album's standout moments.

"Having both James Murphy and Andy LaRocque contribute to the same song was surreal," says Eggenschwiler. "We're huge fans of their work, and hearing their unique styles interact with the music was something we never imagined when writing the track. Andy's solo ultimately became the final thing you hear on the album, which felt like the perfect way to close the record."

The track appears on Haserot's forthcoming debut album Advent of Suffering, mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath).

Advent of Suffering

Redefining Darkness Records

10 July 2026

Houston, Texas death metal band Haserot emerge with their debut full-length album, Advent of Suffering—a focused and uncompromising statement rooted in the traditions of classic 1990s death metal.

Formed in 2019, the band draws from the genre’s foundational era while sharpening their sound with a modern sense of structure and clarity. Across the album, Haserot deliver crushing mid-tempo riffs, dark atmosphere, and melodic lead work, informed by the legacy of Morbid Angel, Entombed, Bloodbath, and Carcass.

Following the groundwork laid by their EP Throne of Malice, Advent of Suffering expands the band’s approach into a heavier, more deliberate and cohesive release—balancing weight, groove, and tension without excess.

The album was once again mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath), bringing definition and depth to the band’s dense and dynamic sound.

With Advent of Suffering, Haserot stand poised to make their most devastating statement yet—an unrelenting offering of old-school brutality sharpened with modern precision.

Prepare for the Advent of Suffering.
