Starting off as a band playing a much faster, thrashier and crustier version of Obituary, Greek death metal band Abyssus have come a long way. Their music is now absolutely formidable; it’s impeccably structured and flawlessly executed without any compromises on the vision. The passion and spirit are still there but channelled brilliantly, in a far more mature and powerful setting, with a sound that they’ve honed to perfection using liberal doses of thrash metal elements. While hearkening back to the glory days of the late '80s/early '90s, Abyssus do more than just revel in the recreation of that sound but imbibe elements unique to their music and create a compelling expression that not only does justice to it but sets standards on how it is to be done. To that effect, ‘Death Revival’ will go down as an iconic album where the style of classic death metal goes in this era.

Civerous is composed of Daniel Salinas (guitar), Lord Foul (vocals), Drew Horton (bass), Alonso Santana (guitar), and Matt Valencia (drums). Decrepit Flesh Relic is their first full length album after a series of smaller projects. Civerous combines both slow, crushing dirges of doom metal with nauseatingly fast blackened death metal, giving the listener a moment of respite before dragging them into a pitch black cavern for more.

The debut full-length album from Hand of Kalliach, Samhainn takes it's name from the ancient Celtic festival of winter (pronounced ‘Sah-win’), marking the beginning of the dark months and the the reign of the witch-god of winter, the Cailleach. This album represents a huge gear change in the writing and production from the duo's initial work, bringing a darker and more aggressive energy to their hybrid sound of melodeath and folk metal.

Burrowing through the mire of the endless Floridian swamps like an arcane travesty of nature, the shadow-bound entity more commonly known only as WORM present ‘Foreverglade’, a strange amalgam of things that ooze, things that crawl and some things that remain still for centuries before crumbling back into the dust and dirt unobserved by mortal eyes.

Utterly ambitious while being steeped in the ancient practices of tradition and ritual observance, on ‘Foreverglade’ Worm finds its truest incarnation, where the catacombs of funereal and oppressively heavy Death Doom are further thrown open, letting drift out the lurking obscurity of Black Metal’s cemetery stench. And yet an adept virtuosity and ghostly ethereality invokes the grim dark beauty of the swamps as much as the veiled creeping horrors.

What’s certain is ‘Foreverglade’ is suffocatingly heavy, filled with shimmering gloomy atmosphere and a reeking foul humidity that superbly embodies the mysteries and monstrosities of the murk. To that end Worm reach a new apex of creative sorcery while signaling it has only begun to unleash what lies beneath the mists.
