PRESS RELEASE:
WYRDSTÆF – PRIMORDIAL BLOODLINES
LABEL: APOCALYPTIC WITCHCRAFT
RELEASE DATE: SEPTEMBER 4th 2026
In a time before history, in an age before memory, they walked the vastness of the earth, an earth untainted by the plague bearing, rapacious hand of ill-named civilisation. An earth where the clinical, dissecting sterility of science had yet to drain the essence of nature, the power of magick from the world. A time before light was an instantly available commodity, disrupting the rhythms of existence, a time when shadows were deeper and concealed dreams, nightmares, friends and enemies. A time when there was no certainty of the dawn arriving after the long hours of night, but when every moment thrummed with the vibrant, vital wonder of existing. They walked in the shadow of giants, the true kings of all existence who knew no fear from man’s busy, wicked minds. They lived on the brink of death, more alive than we can ever be, when humanity was part of life’s miraculous, intricate weave, not a devil apart, setting fire to Eden…
The UK’s Wyrdstæf invoke the spirit of the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic ages, where our distant ancestors roamed a world of ice and natural wonder, hunter-gatherers amongst the incredible megafauna. An existence of brutal harshness in an untarnished but unforgiving world. Through a hypnotic and transportative elixir of layered throat singing, distorted guitars, field recordings and ritualistic chants they seek to reach back into the distant past, not in an act of mimicry, but in an attempt to connect with the essence of a time that exists in the deepest waters of cultural memory and the collective unconscious. Having appeared on national television, performing Egil’s Saga, an Icelandic family saga about the life of 10th century warrior-poet and farmer, Egil Skallagrimsson, on the Channel 4 programme Britain’s Most Historic Towns, the band self-released their debut EP, Great Migrations, in 2021 – a meditation upon ancestral movement and extinction. Now, having signed to Apocalyptic Witchcraft in the Autumn of 2025, Wyrdstæf are ready to unveil their first full length album, the incredible journey that is Primordial Bloodlines!
With its elemental rhythms and tribal chants, an encroaching thunder, ‘White Spring’ draws the listener into Wyrdstæf’s prehistoric vision, forming a gateway into this distant reality which exists in the liminal space between dream and memory. Then ‘Great Migrations’ surrounds us in all its majesty – the cavernous vocals and furious onslaught of sound bringing to life something beyond ancient, something harsh and extreme that can never be forgotten. There’s a sense of shamanistic power entwining with the blackened metal tumult as it carries us through the haunted lands of ‘Hyperborean’ into the wild, visceral celebration of sheer survival that is ‘Parhelion’ – infused with a primitive vigour that strikes fear into the tamed, muzzled soul, in its soft, comfortable chains. Circling the fires that keep the terrors of night at bay in these epic tracks, the brittle modern attention span is cast aside as we reach deep for the innate understanding that lies within. This monumental journey ends in the bower of ‘Primordial Bloodlines’, a song of reflection, beauty and melancholy. A hymn for precious things lost and the pathways that lead back through the mists of countless centuries. Wyrdstæf have crafted something special and filled it with the spirit of an age that could be the saving of us all.
In the words of the band themselves, “Wyrdstæf has always been about tapping into something ancient and primal; a memory of a world that once was. For us, this is a way of reflecting on and channelling the primordial origins of humanity.” Join them – and remember things you have always known. Primordial Bloodlines will be released by Apocalyptic Witchcraft on September 4th, on limited edition splatter vinyl, digipak CD, cassette and digital formats.
