ENTHEOS RELEASE "IN PURGATORY" VIDEO

PRESS RELEASE:

Pushing progressive death metal in ever more imaginative directions, Entheos – vocalist Chaney Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis – continue to stand apart from the pack. Incorporating elements drawn from myriad genres – including death metal, groove, grunge, electronica, slam, gothic rock, jazz, prog and more – they have evolved with every release. Having stripped down to a two-piece in 2020, this decision streamlined the band and allows the core members to make the music they want -with no compromise, which is clearly to their betterment.

Today, Entheos share the video for the new single “In Purgatory.” Watch it here: youtu.be/aYqapO-sudA

“‘In Purgatory’ is a direct extension of our last single ‘Absolute Zero,” says Koperweis. “Musically, the lead guitar and melodies that appear on the outro of ‘Absolute Zero’ became the seeds for ‘In Purgatory,’ and from there, the song wrote itself.“

Crabb continue, “Lyrically, it represents introspection and coming to terms with the person that you are at your very core. The video was shot and edited by the incredible David Brodsky and Allison Woest and their team at My Good Eye: Music Visuals.“

“Absolute Zero” and “In Purgatory” are just the beginning of the new era of Entheos. Expect more in 2023. But for now, please reside “In Purgatory.”

WAKE RELEASE "VAST AND INFINITE (JESU REMIX)" SINGLE

PRESS RELEASE:

WAKE is releasing their single “Vast of Infinite“, which has been remixed by Justin Broadrick of Jesu, exclusively through Bandcamp today! The track was originally recorded in 2020 and was remixed in 2022.

“We’re thrilled to work with Justin Broadrick on this remix. He’s been a staple in a lot of our musical influences over the years and it’s amazing to hear his unique take on one of our songs” states WAKE vocalist Kyle Ball. Guitarist Rob LaChance adds, “Vast and Infinite came from a dark place somewhere between Covid isolation, change and a great feeling of reflection. Justin’s remix sounds as a continuation of all three but through a darker register.“

Fans will be able to stream and purchase the track available through Bandcamp here: wakegrind.bandcamp.com

The band will be performing at the SOLD OUT Decibel Magazine Beer & Metal Festival in Denver, CO on Saturday December 3, which will also feature the band’s craft beer collaboration with Wake Brewing.

Wake Brewing and WAKE the band have very similar values and beer tastes, so doing a second co-brew for the fest was a total no-brainer.

About Wake Brewing/WAKE‘s beer collaboration “Infinite Inward” – “This 7% West Coast IPA was dusted up with CTZ, Citra, Centennial, and Summit hops. Balanced, but also hop forward. Juicy, but also with crisp hop bitterness. A focused profile, but with dense spiciness, too.“

After the Decibel Denver Beer & Metal Fest, WAKE will join Wayfarer for a short tour that wraps up on December 11 in Chicago, IL at Peace Simulation Fest.

“Thought Form Descent” released in June 2022 on Metal Blade Records available on CD, vinyl, and digitally here: metalblade.com/wake

Never a band interested in repeating themselves, WAKE has evolved with every release. 2020′s Devouring Ruin made this clearer than ever, hammering the point home with the Confluence EP in the same year, and now they return with Thought Form Descent – their most dynamic, diverse and emotional release to date. “I’d describe the record as a place to reconsider what ‘extreme’ means. The words ‘brutal’, ‘crushing’, ‘devastating’ are overused adjectives for extreme music. We wanted to force people to confront the idea that ‘brutal’ or ‘extreme’ ideas aren’t just blastbeats or angular tritones, or, more importantly, ‘brutal’ elements alongside pointedly passive elements can create their own experience that can channel both and neither.” The result is eight nuanced tracks that run the gamut from relentlessly heavy to exquisitely beautiful – often simultaneously – and instantly grab hold of the listener, demanding their full attention. However, at the same time, they are lushly textured and densely layered, and offer more with every subsequent exposure, unfurling to show hidden depths, and taking WAKE to a whole new level.

To track the album, the band once again collaborated with Dave Otero (Allegaeon, Cattle Decapitation) at Flatline Audio in Denver, CO. “Dave is someone who does something we love – supersedes what people think of him. Sure, he recorded many successful death metal albums, but his ability to understand pop music and its composition, his knowledge of music theory and his willingness to get right into the movement of a song and its chord progressions, not just the riffs, are things that go way beyond ‘death metal’. He can make hard right turns into wildly different sonic territory without batting an eyelash, and he always has an idea during the deviation, too. He contributed a lot to this record.” Having prepared exhaustively in advance, once in the studio the band were able to try new things, play with ideas and rearrange songs, having the time to go down the proverbial rabbit hole and see where it took them. Kevin Hufnagel of Gorguts and Vaura also makes an appearance, playing guitar on “Pareidolia” and “Observer To Master”, the latter track one of the most melodic on the record.

Thought Form Descent track-listing:

02. Swallow the Light

03. Mourning Dirge (Repose of the Dead)

04. Pareidolia (feat. Kevin Hufnagel of Gorguts and Vaura)

10 MORE BANDS CONFIRMED FOR WACKEN OPEN AIR 2023

PRESS RELEASE:

10 more bands have been confirmed for the WOA 2023.

Anthrax - 40th Anniversary Show!

They are part of The Big Four and they got the most iconic beard in the scene on guitar – New York Thrash legends Anthrax need no further introduction. That little thing called Covid ruined their 40th birthday party celebrations all over the globe so we are even more happy to be cheering with them for their 42nd. If you ain’t getting “caught in a mosh” here, then we don’t know what to tell you!

Killswitch Engage

Everybody loves a comeback story! Killswitch Engage, probably one of the biggest Metalcore bands on the globe did not let a change in lead vocals stop them - quite the opposite. When the band saw Howard Jones in 2012 leave due to personal reasons, they welcomed back founding member Jesse Roach. Lucky Wacken Fans:  you all get to experience the band after a fantastic show 2008 with Jones now with Roach! Who is your favourite KsE Frontman?

Employed to Serve

Wild, young, eager, brutal are some of the adjectives that come to mind when you experience Employed To Serve for the first time. We are not sure who they are “serving” but their harsh grinding vocals and riffs are very much to our liking. And apparently also metal gods Gojira share this opinion, as Employed To Serve is an often invited guest on their tours.

Be’Lakor

The name Be'Lakor is not only that of a demon from the Warhammer universe, but also a melodic death metal band from Melbourne, Australia, which has been a hot insider tip for years. The band has released 5 albums since their founding in 2004. The latest album Coherence has seen the light of day in 2021 and next year the Australians will play at W:O:A for the first time!

Kärbholz

There was a time when the little town Ruppichteroth was a quiet, romantic location that invites you to go hike the German Eifel. That must have been before Kärbholz were born, because we can only guess that them practicing their “In-Your-Face” Rock’n’Roll must have woken up the last sleepy soul in a mile radius. 20 years down the road and with some chartbreaking records under their belt, it is even harder to sleep on them. Three times is a charm, let’s welcome them back accordingly!

Schandmaul - 25th Anniversary Show!

Germany is the undisputed champion of medieval rock - why? We just like to be reminded of times where beer was drunken out of horns, and it was socially accepted to not bathe for 1 week. Or maybe it is because we have fantastic exemplums like Schandmaul, who for 25 years bring folky joy into the world. What could be a better place for the anniversary show then the Wacken stage?

Skalmöld

If you are waiting impatiently for more Vikings to enter our stages: here, you go! Straight from Viking country these musicians with sounding names like Ragnarsson and Sigurðsson gathered under the black flag of the ship that is called Skalmöd. In 2023 they are sailing again to Wacken to tell us old Islandic tales from brave warriors, terrifying beasts and old legends.

Real McKenzies

Professional Scotsman and Kiltwearer Paul McKenzie almost needs no introduction. For 30 years and counting him and his ferocious bunch are taking their Celtic Punk all over the globe. One might even argue that it was the Real McKenzies who invented it. Guess that will be something to discuss over a Guiness backstage with the Dropkick Murphys.

Heriot

Many people already see Heriot as the new revelation in Metalcore. And there may be some truth about that, as Heriot are widening the horizons of the genre. Where the guitars and drums are raining nails upon the listener, it is the spheric voice of Debbie Gough that catches them and wraps them in silver linen. It will be amazing to see what this young band can do on stage.

Warkings

What happens when you put four warkings together on one stage? A. They burn each other to ashes B. We will all go to Valhalla C. They form a band and become a most spectacular Powermetal concert experience. Answer is C. and the aptly named band Warkings will be bringing their godly but unholy shenanigans back on our stage 2023. Powered (sic) by their latest album Morgana we surely hope they are magically support again by our favourite voice-witch Morgana Le Faye!

SADUS JOINS NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS

PRESS RELEASE:

Announced today, thrash metal legends SADUS have officially joined the Nuclear Blast Records family. Led by founding vocalist/guitarist Darren Travis and drummer Jon Allen, the band is armed with a resurgent arsenal of massive riffs and blistering solos, crushing drums and shredding bass, and are currently preparing the release of their first new album in 16 years due out 2023.

Commenting on the signing, Nuclear Blast's A&R veteran Monte Conner states:

“I am thrilled to be reunited with Darren Travis and the mighty Sadus. Signing a band I have worked with in the past is never a given. Quite the opposite, in fact. I need to be blown away, and let me tell you, this new Sadus material is some of the best work I have ever heard from the band. It is the Sadus you know and love, with the same elements that made them unique in the past, but now with even stronger, more focused songs, and with crushingly heavy modern production!”

With the signing comes SADUS' ferocious new single, "It's The Sickness". The first taste off their impending record is a contemporary thrash classic with colossal, groove-laden riffs that was made to get the pit moving.

Says SADUS' Darren Travis, when asked to discuss the new track, “As Joe Perry from Aerosmith says... ‘Let the music do the talking!!!’”

About SADUS:

SADUS rose to notoriety amidst the Bay Area's burgeoning thrash scene in the mid-80's. The band's introductory album, Illusions (1988), led to their signing with Roadrunner Records by A&R guru Monte Connor and eventual release of the quintessential record Swallowed in Black (1990). Over the next decade and a half the band went on to release the hailed albums A Vision of Misery (1992), Elements of Anger (1997) and Out for Blood (2006) as well as toured with the likes of Morbid Angel, Sepultura and Obituary among others.

Now nearly four decades since their formation and almost two decades since their last record, SADUS returns with one of their most vicious and vital albums to date. Follow the band for additional news and updates regarding their return.

HOST RELEASE VIDEO FOR "HIDING FOR TOMORROW"

PRESS RELEASE:

Dark wave duo HOST (Greg Mackintosh and Nick Holmes) have released a new video for 'Hiding From Tomorrow', the second single from their upcoming debut album IX. This new offering is a brooding cut of stark goth rock, akin to the works of Siouxise and the Banshees and The Sisters of Mercy.

Vocalist Nick Holmes comments "'Hiding From Tomorrow’ was one of the first songs we wrote for the Host project and although the title would suggest otherwise, it was written a few years prior to the pandemic.  With that in mind, I was thinking about the things that keep you awake at night, and although life is something that should never be taken for granted, uncertainty is a big part of it, and none of us know what’s around the corner."

About HOST

The origins of HOST do not trace back to the 1999 PARADISE LOST album bearing the same name but instead to the West Yorkshire music clubs of the mid-to-late 1980s. While Holmes and Mackintosh were already certified heavy metal fanatics (“metal thrashing mad” as Holmes equates), they were equally drawn to the New Wave and Goth music scenes. The pounding rhythms, sublime melodies and undercurrent of darkness drew them in, creating immediate earworms and a desire to delve further.

Mackintosh finally put plans into motion during the pandemic for a venture that would merge his penchant for sound design with the moods and atmosphere of 1980s dance-pop and Goth. The project was originally a solo pursuit until he asked Holmes, his longtime PARADISE LOST songwriting partner, to join. 'HOST' was selected as the name as a tip of the hat to the aforementioned album that found PARADISE LOST in an unprecedented period of experimentation that eschewed their metal roots and also challenged their fanbase in ways like never before.

“We always stood by 'Host' as an album,” says Mackintosh. “This project is not totally connected to that album, but some of the ideas are extrapolated. We’re taking the basic premise and trying it out now. And, really, it was something fun and interesting for us to do. We’ve been doing PARADISE LOST for a long time and got an itch to try something different from where PL is now. I could take PL down this route again. Who knows? It may happen if we live long enough, but I thought, ‘Why not now?’ I had the time to do it.”

TYPE O NEGATIVE RE-RELEASE "DEAD AGAIN"

PRESS RELEASE:

On March 13, 2007, American gothic metal band TYPE O NEGATIVE released their seventh and final studio album, Dead Again. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the band's final record before the passing of bassist/vocalist Peter Steele.

The wait is over, the Dead Again reissue is now out! Watch the music video for "The Profit Of Doom" here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwzhOrAnJ-E

TYPE O NEGATIVE's Kenny Hickey comments:

"The first casualty of this album was the record company - which promptly went under after its release. Soon after, Peter passed, and then even the rehearsal studio it was written and developed in was burnt to the ground by Hurricane Sandy. As the black cloud continued its relentless path over TYPE O, Dead Again appeared and disappeared from the streaming platforms for years. Now that the storm has passed we have some slight hope of establishing a small illusion of permanence with this final release of Dead Again. We are sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused you."

Order your physical copy of Dead Again here:

Dead Again was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Mike Marciano in 2006 at System Two Studios in Brooklyn, NY. The album was produced by Peter Steele and Josh Silver who also aided the mixing of the record.

THE ABBEY RELEASE "WORD OF SIN"

PRESS RELEASE:

Word of Sin

by The Abbey

Drawing lyrical inspiration from esoteric organizations, their beliefs and own practices, Finnish music veteran Jesse Heikkinen and co-lead vocalist Natalie Koskinen (Shape of Despair) weaved ritualistic tales from the darkest corners of themselves to pair with music that is a provocative, alluring kaleidoscope of dark, heavy rock.

The result is the mystical ‘Word of Sin’, THE ABBEY’s first full-length. Featuring former Sentenced and The Man-Eating Tree drummer Vesa Ranta, Janne Markus (guitar, also of The Man-Eating Tree) and Henri Arvola (bass), the emerging progressive doom rock band’s debut album is certain to entrance and captivate the listeners with its spell.
