OCCULSED is the latest spawn from Justin (Father Befouled, Encoffination) and Jared (Gastric Phantasm) combining sheer savagery the US way with a dreadful, catacombal feeling. Ruthless and threatening...

Occulsed was formed in Atlanta/Georgia in 2017 to spew filthy, wretched, and disgusting Death Metal. Taking cues from the stalwart Tampa scene as well as the early underground Scandinavian death metal gods, Occulsed employs chaotic riffing, eerie melody, and inhuman vocals to craft haunting and bone-crushing death metal.

With a pedigree of members spanning numerous bands, the three members of Occulsed have a 20+ year history of death and black metal under their belts. The culmination of songwriting results in a harrowing listening experience.

With the demos “Cenotaph to Putridity” and “Ceremonial Lifelessness” garnering rave reviews they have cemented themselves as a death metal force not to missed. Their debut “Crepitation of Phlegethon” is poised to be one of most abominable and riff-laden death metal records of 2022.

Burrowing through the mire of the endless Floridian swamps like an arcane travesty of nature, the shadow-bound entity more commonly known only as WORM present ‘Foreverglade’, a strange amalgam of things that ooze, things that crawl and some things that remain still for centuries before crumbling back into the dust and dirt unobserved by mortal eyes.

Utterly ambitious while being steeped in the ancient practices of tradition and ritual observance, on ‘Foreverglade’ Worm finds its truest incarnation, where the catacombs of funereal and oppressively heavy Death Doom are further thrown open, letting drift out the lurking obscurity of Black Metal’s cemetery stench. And yet an adept virtuosity and ghostly ethereality invokes the grim dark beauty of the swamps as much as the veiled creeping horrors.

What’s certain is ‘Foreverglade’ is suffocatingly heavy, filled with shimmering gloomy atmosphere and a reeking foul humidity that superbly embodies the mysteries and monstrosities of the murk. To that end Worm reach a new apex of creative sorcery while signaling it has only begun to unleash what lies beneath the mists.

Ascending from the odious decay of their first LP, Cerebral Rot passes from animal to human contagion with a new more purulent virus on ‘Excretion Of Mortality’. A return of such festering decrepitude and anatomical canker as befits the true adherents of vile and sick underground Death Metal.

Soaked in the swamp of radioactive sewage, Cerebral Rot’s tumor like growth on ‘Excretion Of Mortality’ bludgeons with a hammering heaviness that few can manage or survive. A methodical focus on attaining maximum barbarism through every aspect of the production, from the meaty, dripping guitars to the immense rhythm section and Schwab’s nuclear travesty vocals, to the deceptively straightforward bludgeoning of the songs, exposes a scalpel-like cutting precision to this seemingly base display of horrid malevolence.

Before leaving Jack Endino’s Soundhouse Studio in Seattle permanently uninhabitable for the next 500 hundred years, the pungent bubbling mess they set to tape on ‘Excretion Of Mortality’ lingers there, and everywhere, like a malodorous putrescence at the crossroads of the excremental and the existential.
