TRIBUNAL will be touring in support of their acclaimed debut LP, The Weight Of Remembrance, released in June of 2023 on 20 Buck Spin. Featuring classically trained cellist/bassist/vocalist Soren Mourne and guitarist/vocalist Etienne Flinn, TRIBUNAL’s brick-heavy classic doom riffage borders on death metal heaviness, like My Dying Bride filtered through a colossal stained-glass edifice. The sound is instantly familiar with nods to the ‘80s and ‘90s but never sounds retro or like mere homage. Rather, The Weight Of Remembrance evokes the feeling of a painstakingly composed orchestral movement fit for a crumbling cathedral overgrown with moss. The duo frequently trades off vocals alternating between haunted wailing cleans, scathing black-metal style shrieks and dread-filled death calls.

The Weight Of Remembrance features additional contributions from several other talented musicians, including drums by Julia Geaman, additional drums on “Apathy’s Keep” by Magdalena Wienski, piano on “Remembrance” by Claine Lamb, and additional vocals by Rory Say. The album was recorded by TRIBUNAL except for the primary drums which were recorded by Andrew Conroy at Fifth Chord Studios and Wienski’s drums which were recorded by Violetta Macri at CJSF, after which the songs were mixed and mastered by Markov Soroka. The beautifully painted cover artwork was created by Soren Mourne, with lettering and frame by Karmazid, photography by Liam Kanigan, and layout by Dan Fried completing the presentation. Steeped in the black velvet finery of gothic doom metal, the band weaves dark tales of ultimate judgement, never-ending rain, and forsaken despair.

PATHOLOGY RELEASE "UNHOLY DESCENT"

American brutal death metal four-piece PATHOLOGY, spearheaded by drummer extraordinaire Dave Astor (ex-cofounder of Cattle Decapitation), re-emerge with their twelfth studio album. "Unholy Descent" is a sinister hybrid of unflinching and delightful aural punishment. The album is replete with razor-sharp guitars and brutish, frog-edged vocals, clipped together by a hard-slamming cascade of tight & taut drumming. With drops of melody seeping into the crevices of PATHOLOGY's unremitting charge, these thirteen tales of ancient aliens, demonic powers and social issues, will leave your hearing beaten and bruised in the best way possible.

The relentless wave of sonic devastation of "Unholy Descent" was carefully designed, recorded and mixed at Sharkbite Studios by Zack Ohren (Aborted, All Shall Perish, Decrepit Birth) in June 2023, and aptly mastered by the capable hands of Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Origin, Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation). The painting which adorns the cover artwork was created by Pär Olofsson (Exodus, Abysmal Dawn, Immolation).

"Unholy Descent" is PATHOLOGY's third consecutive album with the same personnel, comprising a proven set of talented death metal mavericks, in the shape of said Dave Astor on drums, Daniel Richardson on guitars, Richard Jackson on bass, and Obie Flett on vocals. The line-up was portrayed in photography by Nikki Astor.

MUTILATION BARBECUE RELEASE "AMALGAMATION OF GORE"

Ahead of its release this Friday on the twisted Maggot Stomp roster, Decibel Magazine today presents an exclusive stream of Amalgamations Of Gore, the merciless debut LP from Cleveland, Ohio-based death metal crew MUTILATION BARBECUE.

MUTILATION BARBECUE was spawned in 2019 from the ashes of death-thrash rippers Subtype Zero – the band who also gave birth to fellow Clevelanders and Maggot Stomp alumni 200 Stab Wounds – the initial lineup uniting bassist Dylan Andras, vocalist Chris Fredrick, drummer Harrison Good, and guitarists Nick Mcgroder and Peter Blanchet. Their catchy, creative twists on groove-thick death metal in the slamming ways of long-running progenitors Dying Fetus, Pyrexia, Skinless, and Internal Bleeding places them alongside contemporary peers like Maul, Sanguisugabogg, Snuffed On Sight, and 200 Stab Wounds, and upon release of their eponymous EP in 2021, the band stormed onto the local scene with devastating riffs, horrific lyrics, and an explosive live show.

2022 landed the band under the Maggot Stomp umbrella for the release of their Abortion Ambulance EP followed by extensive local shows opening for everyone from Frozen Soul to Sanguisugabogg to tours with Gates To Hell and Hanging Fortress and an appearance at Full Terror Assault Open Air Festival. With a year of shows under their belt, MUTILATION BARBECUE entered the studio in the Summer of 2023 to work on their debut LP. Several lineup changes saw Dylan Andras switch from bass to replace both guitarists and new bassist Larry Johnson joining the band, now a quartet.

Amalgamations Of Gore delivers nine tracks of pure savagery; sections of rapid-fire blastbeats are gorily strewn throughout sections of mid-paced stomping and neck-snapping rhythm shifts, bizarre swells of curious tonal excursions, and bursts of incinerating solos, the entire record lined with more hooks than a butcher’s freezer. Recorded by the band members, Amalgamations Of Gore was then mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dear Air Studios (Magrudergrind, Fugitive), and completed with cover art by Colter Masson (Nuclear Remains, Kthulhu).

The advance album stream at Decibel is accompanied by a short interrogation of the band, the piece reading in part, “...MUTILATION BARBECUE keep things simple, dirty, and brutal. The quintet play very groovy brutal death metal, taking cues from the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Skinless, and Suffocation, plus Ohio staples like Sanguisugabogg, Mutilatred, and 200 Stab Wounds. All nine songs on Amalgamations Of Gore have a weight behind them, thanks in part to MUTILATION BARBECUE’s ear for simple, headbangable riffs and in part to the mix and master by Will Killingsworth (Fugitive, Magrudergrind). Tracks like 'Xenomorphic Organ Rearrangement' and 'Trampled Under 18 Wheels' inspire a mental picture of cartoonish levels of gore and violence, which is the highest praise one can assign to a brutal death metal band."
