Belched from Hell’s depths into the rustic charms of the Witch County, Suffolk, thirty long and disturbing years ago, CRADLE OF FILTH are undisputed giants of the Heavy Metal realm. Imperious purveyors of a perennially unique strain of dark, dastardly and wilfully extreme metal, with deep roots in the worlds of gothic horror and occult curiosity, the band led by Dani Filth has weathered three decades of tumult and trial, earning a formidable reputation as both a singular creative force and one of the most riotously entertaining live bands the metal world has ever produced.

Now the gates of hell have finally opened up again, to reveal the band's 13th manifesto, recorded during the lockdown periods of 2020 and entitled »Existence Is Futile«. Pieced together in isolation, at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk with studio guru Scott Atkins (Devilment/Benediction/Vader), the band's latest chef-d'oeuvre is a pitch-black, perverse and at times absurdly brutal and extreme masterpiece following a truly nihilistic concept:

"The album is about existentialism, existential dread and fear of the unknown," frontman Dani Filth explains. "The concept wasn’t created by the pandemic. We’d written it long before that began, but the pandemic is the tip of the cotton-bud as far as the way the world is headed, you know? I guess the title, »Existence Is Futile«, does sound a little morbid. But again, it’s more about recognising that truth and saying that everything is permitted because nothing really matters, which mimics the occultist Aleister Crowley’s maxim. We all know we’re going to die, so we might as well indulge life while we possess it. The final track on the album – 'Us, Dark, Invincible' – really drives that point home. Also, the artwork for this record was created by the Latvian visionary Arthur Berzinsh, who also dressed the last two albums, and that reeks of the exceedingly beautiful yet apocalyptic too."

Diehard fans will be thrilled to learn that horror icon Doug 'Pinhead' Bradley makes a welcome return to the CRADLE fold, lending his dulcet tones to the band's most polictically astute song to date, the epic 'Suffer Our Dominion' as well as the album bonus track 'Sisters Of The Mist', which is the conclusion to the 'Her Ghost In The Fog' trilogy that started over 20 years ago on the infamous and classic "Midian".

Yet today, the hellhounds from Suffolk will reveal one of their most brutal tracks on the new album, accompanied by an infernal music video directed by Vicente Cordero.

ALL WASTED – A metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Created by members with the attitude that it’s time to “just have a damn good time”. After a couple of years of jamming and tuning in the “right style” the band decided to go public in 2020. Not only with a raw, energetic, punch in the face kind of music. So what genre is it?

"We're extremely happy to be back on the track after some throwbacks during the last year and we are not just talking about the Covid pandemic but also of private and health issues. Time was dark and this is the result!

CASSIUS KING RELEASE VIDEO FOR "CLEOPATRA´S NEEDLE"

Fresh off of releasing their debut album Field Trip on California's Nomad Eel Records, Cassius King have just released their first full length video for the song Cleopatra's Needle. The video was produced by Jason C. Stewart who also produced the Last Ride and Torture King videos off the last Vessel Of Light album. 

"Jason has become my go-to-guy the last year and a half." said guitarist Dan Lorenzo. "His enthusiasm is off the charts and at this point I let him to whatever he wanted for Cleopatra's Needle and I think it's just as much fun to watch as it is to listen to".

Former HADES founding member Dan Lorenzo has been using the CASSIUS KING moniker for years. From his debut 

solo album to his endless cover song CDs with various lead vocalists. But it wasn't until 2021 when Lorenzo decided to 

make an all original album with vocalist Jason McMaster (WATCHTOWER/DANGEROUS TOYS/BROKEN TEETH/HOWLING SYCAMORE/IGNITOR). Lorenzo released four albums in three years with his doom band VESSEL OF LIGHT when Coronavirus prevented any more live shows. "I had music to probably eight or nine more songs after VOL released Last Ride", Lorenzo said. "I didn't think the world was ready for a fifth Vessel Of Light album when we couldn't even play shows to support Last Ride. Jason sang multiple Cassius King cover songs with me and I had some music that was maybe a bit more like Hades plus a bluesy song I sent off to Jason. I was shocked how quickly Jason wrote and sang the first few songs so I recorded a few more brand new tunes. I asked Jason if he needed any help with melodies and he told me he did not. Jason said he could use some lyrical ideas though. I told that to Jimmy Schulman (Hades/Vessel Of Light) and he and Jason ended up collaborating lyrically on three songs."

Schulman commented, "When Dan mentioned Jason needed some lyrical ideas, I was excited to be part of that process.

Jason and I came at it a few different ways. Sometimes it was just texting back-and-forth with a line or two at a time until it took on shape. Another time, a long poem was crafted into a song. However it went though, it proved to be a cool and interesting collaboration."

So what kind of music is the debut CASSIUS KING album Field Trip? Traditional heavy metal? Doom? 

McMaster stated, "It was the kind of material I had been wanting to do for a long time. It feels a bit like Ozzy and Dio playing poker over some left over Sabbath material. The melodies came to me quickly, as well as some of the lyrics. Things I already had fit the visions I had upon first listen and it all flowed immediately. I would not call it a full "doom" application of terms, but, its heavy, it reminds me of what I love about Sabbath and Dio songs".

Drummer Ron Lipnicki ( former Overkill current Vessel Of Light) said, "I think this new album's got something for everyone it's like the fruits all line up on the slot machine." That includes fans of Hades seminal release Resisting Success as Scott LePage plays leads on the songs I Move With The Moon and King of Lies.

Hailing from Borås, Son of Sam was conjured in 2019 by Throllv and Tobias in the wake of their former band Rimfrost. The duo indeed escaped from the Rimfrost’s black metal root and embraced death metal vigor in their new pathway, but they could not break free from the evil tendency, melodic tenebrosity, and cut-throat aggression from the past. And thus, Son of Sam barrels along a new direction with the same force and spirit.

The Swedish two-piece worked really hard during the first year to finish the debut album, And the Monster Awoke... To present a glimpse of their work to the listeners, they unleashed a three-track demo, titled In Darkness and Dismay, in 2020. Later, they presented a slew of singles from the full-length before the release date on June 11, 2021.

On And the Monster Awoke..., Son of Sam plows through the fine line between rousing death ‘n’ roll, murderous death metal, and glorious trad metal. Although not a trailblazing effort, the opus aptly brings about a fast-paced, blood-cursed, gruesome death metal ride in the north.

Bio:

The band was originally founded by Artyom Prishchepov together with Ivan Sereda in Belarus in 2008 as the way close friends created music together. They composed music for years just for fun and inspiration, and the band has eventually grown: adding Yaroslav Korotkin on vocals and bass, Sergey Shulzhenko (keys and orchestration), Dmitry Sarychau on guitars, and Alexander Cherepanov doing vocals. Today the musicians live around the world: Belarus, USA, China, Russia - and collaborate online. Recently they decided to re-mix and issue all of their music digitally available for everyone for free, featuring James Knoerl on drums and programming. Starting with the very first works they walk the journey again opening new chapters together. This sense of friendship is something everyone really started to value during pandemics and isolation.

EXTREME DECAY RELEASE "ANTIVIRAL" EP

Extreme Decay Releases Brand New EP

A brand new mini album/EP titled Antiviral was released by Disaster Records on Record Store Day 2021 on limited amounts, soon to be released on 7” vinyl by Samstrong Records.    

Extreme Decay officially released a new EP titled Antiviral on 22 July 2021. The EP was released on cassette tape on a limited number of 100 copies through Disaster Records. The EP was released along with the celebration of Record Store Day (RSD) 2021 by Disaster Records.

“Actually the EP came about as a last minute decision on the catalogue of Disaster Records,” as said by Ravi when Extreme Decay was interviewed by Rian Pelor on Play FM radio program Play Out Loud last Wednesday (21/7). “At the moment Disaster was preparing to release several cassette tapes on RSD, and we make an offer for EP release because the material is ready. Everything happens quite fast …”   

On the last couple of years Extreme Decay has been working quietly. Not many words and promises made publicly. As if they work in mysterious ways. “Actually since 2019 we have been writing new stuff for Extreme Decay,” Ruli said. “Although some of our members live in different cities, using technology we can exchange ideas, basic riffs, and song patterns. Then we perfected the ideas as a whole during rehearsal on studio,” as said by Nizar.  

“At first, the songs was recorded for demos,“ Ruli explained the new EP materials. “But we felt that the quality is pretty okay, so why not release it.”  

The title Antiviral is taken from one of the songs in the EP. Ravi, who wrote the music and lyrics for the song stated that “Antiviral” was inspired by a movie under the same name. The movie itself is centered on unhealthy social media culture, celebrity worship cults, and humanity’s obsession on hedonism.  

The other songs in the EP are “Kolaps” with the theme of earth collapsing due to ecological disaster, “Mendakwa Otak” about monopoly of truth and baseless judgment, “Skeptik Tank” about real life ‘vampirism’, and “Invasi Pengerat” about opportunistic and cannibalistic behavior among humans. Such issues feel real and relevant on todays pandemic-ridden world.  

Several weeks ago, Extreme Decay has released a track titled "Kolaps" as the first single for this EP, on 7 July 2021. The song was released along with a music video made by Dimas Tirta Arwana and available on Extreme Decay’s Youtube channel.

The Antiviral EP is a part of the latest recording session done by the band in Natural Studio (Surabaya) on 12-13 June 2021. The studio’s mastermind, Irwan Suharto, acted as the sound engineer under full supervision by the band. 

The recording session in Natural Studio left a deep mark, and evoke a certain nostalgia for the band members. “The studio was quite legendary, especially for bands from Surabaya, Malang and the whole East Java underground scene. Since ’90s the studio was often used by our friends bands. Back then the studio still used analogue recording, and nowadays it uses digital recording. We recorded our second full length, Sampah Dunia Ketiga (released 2003) also at Natural studio…” 

Extreme Decay actually recorded nine songs at the session. Five songs was then selected to be in the Antiviral EP, and the rest of the materials are still kept for revision and future releases. 

“We are going back to the studio at the end of the year to record a full length album to be released on 2022. We are aiming for new variations and elements to be incorporated to the next record” they said. 

Extreme Decay is a grindcore unit from Malang, founded on January 1998. Since their inception they have been quite productive. Extreme Decay has released several albums on various record labels in Indonesia and abroad, including a number of split album and international compilations on the last two decades. The current members of Extreme Decay are Afrl (vocals), Ravi (guitar/vocals), Ruli (guitar/vocals), Nizar (bass/vocals), and Eko (drum/vocals). 

The Antiviral cassette tape was released on Disaster Records web page on 22 July 2021. Currently the tapes are sold out. The good news is that the EP will be released on 7” vinyl by Samstrong Records which will also contains three new songs, to be available at the end of 2021. 

Now the band is quite busy preparing new materials for a full length set for release on early 2022. Grind On!

"Bells o the Drowned" is the second single to be released from the upcoming EP. This time around the lyrical theme of the song is concerning the lore of the "Drowned" from the video game, "Diablo IV".

This is a tale of undead creatures that come forth from the ocean waters to feed on the living and drag their bodies to the abyssal reaches of the sea.

SKANNERS RELEASE COMPILATION: "GREATEST HITS"

To celebrate the 35th discographic anniversary of the Band and the forthcoming 40th since its formation, Music for the Masses has the honor to announce the agreement with legendary Italian metallers Skanners for the release of their first Greatest Hits which goes through the Band’s whole career. Skanners are with no doubt one of the most important and representative bands of Italian Heavy Metal, one of the few deserving the definition of “Legendary”. Kicking off back in 1982 and debuting in 1986 with “Dirty Armada”, released for a Major Label, the then very active CGD, which also released the following “Pictures of War” in 1988, the Band has ever since kept up its identity and dignity, always far from trend-following and staying true to its Metal Belief, supported by great composition and talent, together with Claudio Pisoni’s voice. These have always been the trademarks of the Band. And, for this special release, a new, unreleased song entitled “Under the Grave” will be on the album.

The new album refers to the god "Sun" of the Muiscas, an Andean culture in Central Colombia. It will feature 12 tracks heavily influenced by indigenous pre-colonial art, music and languages like Quechua/Peru, Náhuatl/Mexico, Muisca/Colombia, Aymara/Bolivia, Quichua/Ecuador, Mapudungún/Chile, Argentina, Iroquois/USA, Canada.

It´s a concept album inspired by the so-called conquest of America, legends and indigenous beliefs. It gives voice to cultures and languages previously unchartered in the genre, forming a babel tower of America.

Believe it or not, Divine Anger is a metal band from another dimension. How and why this shift happened is still a riddle to all! One moment, they were playing the biggest gig of their life in Wacken – on their side. Next, they woke up here, in a reality that is home to you but alien to them. Now, the six musicians are on a journey to return home, and their first wish is to play their way into the ears and hearts of metalheads, with their expressive power metal – a style that ranges from melodic to aggressive but is always catchy as hell! Everyone has heroes, and Divine Anger’s strongest influences are metal bands like Iced Earth, Helloween, Angel Dust, and Nocturnal Rites. At the same time, all band members enjoy the impact of more aggressive metal genres. So, you will mainly hear clean vocals in their songs, but you will also often hear screams, growls, or blends from these different vocal styles, inspired by subgenres like melodic death metal or alternative metal rather than specific bands. 

Divine Anger was founded in 2015 by Barry Ross (bass) and Luke Krämer (guitars). The two school friends pushed their project passionately and formed a professional metal band in 2018. With Misaki Hayashi (synthesizers), J.J. (guitars), Damon (drums), and ART3M (vocals), Barry and Luke found irreplaceable comrades-in-arms, and today, they together form the permanent line-up of Divine Anger. The band members come from different countries and are thus an international group. As in their founding year, their life and creative activity are centered in Hamburg (Germany). Although currently completely unknown in the metal scene, Divine Anger has already built up a reputation as a serious newcomer band in their dimension. Indeed, they were just one step away from signing their first record deal, which was to happen right after their gig in Wacken. But then, things changed. On December 1, 2020 Divine Anger released their first single Behind the Wall in our dimension. A second single (Always Now) followed on February 20, 2021, and the third one (Guru of Hate) on May 7, 2021. On August 6, 2021 the band's debut EP will be unleashed on our ears. Reading, Pennsylvania's Rivers Of Nihil have never fit neatly into a box, but with 2018's Where Owls Know My Name, they transcended all labels applied to them. Returning in 2021 with The Work, they have forged further into new territory, delivering an album that is as cerebral as it is visceral, and that covers a staggering sonic range, definitively placing them in a category of their own. Inarguably a very dense, heavy collection, The Work is far too dynamic to be considered a solely metal record, and there is a genuine warmth that shows through, particularly on "Wait" and the gorgeous "Maybe One Day," and the band have included far more clean vocals alongside the screaming that tears through many of the heavier tracks. Courtesy of their friend Zach Strouse, saxophone once again adds extra layers of atmosphere to the collection, utilizing baritone, soprano and alto saxes to great affect.

With guitars and synths/keys tracked at Uttley's home studio, the band then we went back for the third album in a row to Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland at Atrium Audio to do drums, vocals, bass, sax, and mixing. "We've done so many sessions with those guys that they're basically an extension of our band at this point. They usually know what we like, and we always encourage them to roast us to make stuff better," says guitarist Brody Uttley. Alongside the band, James Dorton from Black Crown Initiate provided some vocals on "Episode," Grant McFarland played cello on "The Void From Which No Sound Escapes", and Uttley's friend Stephan Lopez helped out with all of the field recordings, an integral part of the sonic textures of the record.

What Voices From The Darkside is saying about

First off I can say that it was really hard to get information on SEER OF GALLOWS other than it is a one man band from Sweden. And that makes this album even more odd. I mean, we do have the well-known NWOSDM movement, which has been proven a blueprint for most Swedish bands playing any kind of extreme Metal. And all I can say after the fact is that I was pleasantly surprised. The album starts with a song that is part intro, part instrumental. Right off the bat, one can listen to a really heavy overall atmosphere with a curious twist: there is no sharpness or bite which has become so typical for Metal releases in the last decade. The treble is somewhat rounded and that single detail is asphyxiating, so to speak. The sound is huge and raw. But still, you can’t pinpoint exactly what SEER OF GALLOWS is all about. I found this both, exasperating and interesting. And then song number two hits. With a promising start, one realizes that this album means serious business. A mid to fast tempo mix of Black and Death Metal. The tremolo riffs lead the way with their eerie melodies backed by dense open chords. The guitars and the bass are massive, which is something you don’t usually hear in Black Metal albums. But this is due to the overwhelming Death Metal influence, which is also present in the vocal department: a coarse and harsh grunt that finishes off the combination. The sheer heaviness of “Entropy Of Holocene” is boosted with slow passages that make the mid and fast parts even more cruel and chaotic, although the album has a piercing accuracy in every aspect. The production, as said above, is heavy, dense and absolutely oppressing. The guitars are massive, followed by pounding bass lines and raw yet punchy drums. The performances are clear and solid, yet they don’t dwell into technicality or wankering. Their sole purpose is to add to the album’s atmosphere, constantly varying the tempos and adding and subtracting elements to keep things interesting. Every song is easily identified. Each one has its own character, but without taking away from the seamless flow as they progress. The mix is well done, with every instrument set in its right place and the vocals taking a vital role. It doesn’t matter what is happening music wise, the vocals keep everything tight and convincing. Now, regarding the mastering, I still can’t stand the absence of dynamics. I do miss the time when the “loudness wars” were non-existent. If “Entropy Of Holocene” had just a bit more dynamics, the experience could’ve been a lot more punishing. But that is just me longing for days long gone. Overall, SEER OF GALLOWS has proven that merging two of the most extreme Metal genres in a passionate way, not only gives the creators other means of translating their art, but it also offers to us, the listeners, new means of enjoying the experience. Paying homage to the Fulci-directed cult horror film and comprising of Sweden’s busiest Death Metal overlord Rogga Johansson (ex-Bone Gnawer, ex-Demiurg, Paganizer, etc), Monstrosity frontman Mike Hrubovcak and Paganizer drummer Matthias Fiebig, “Rise Of The Rotten” is simply no more, no less; just the perfect brew of 90’s era HM-2 decapitation riffs rupturing throughout the entire album. This is bare-bones, essential Swedish Death that has proven to be timeless.

CMPT is an anonymous black metal formation rooted in haunted cults and dark folklore coming from the bloody Balkan soil. The word itself (SMRT in Latin) represents a Cyrillic transcription translated purely as "Death" in all the languages of the Balkan tribes and is with certain variations understandable in the rest of the Slavic world.

Found on a specific cross between the old indigenous elements and the ancient Slavic folklore, CMPT is a dedication to the authentic Balkan worship of Death, a monument of praise for the unclean ones, nocturnal rites and forbidden cults that have cursed these lands centuries before the first Byzantine missions arrived.

Coming from pre-Christian times, the cult of Death has withstood all the temptations of the time and has been to this day successfully preserved in the local culture of the Balkan peoples, where it is still being practiced on a conscious or subconscious level. Now as a first monument to this primordial cult, CMPT is ready to put "Mrtvaja" EP out and make the theme of Death more relevant than ever!

Two sets of brothers from Staten Island, New York, formed TOMBSTONER in March of 2019. A Death/Grind-like roar of JR Hayes (Pig Destroyer) or John Randall (Agoraphobic Nosebleed) can be found within that sit nicely alongside Power Trip / Gatecreeper riffage. The dual mid-range / low vocal attack between Thomas Megill and Jesse Quinones add a unique, almost grindcore, element to their brand of molten death inspired groove metal.

Since their formation in 2011, Finland's BONEHUNTER have been a subtly steady work in progress. A devout power-trio since the very beginning, the band began their ascent to greatness with a clutch of demos and splits, culminating in their now-classic debut album for HELLS HEADBANGERS, Evil Triumphs Again, in 2015. If that debut LP was the first and last word on Bathory worship, BONEHUNTER took the charisma of that record and asserted a strange & twisted identity with 2017's Sexual Panic Human Machine follow-up. By then, their blackened metalpunk was pumping on full-throttle, but it was Children of the Atom the following year where they hit a fever pitch: arguably, the most ripping & addicting pitch-black speed metal of the decade.

And whereas that album showed subtle traces of classic Japanese Burning Spirits-style punk, on Dark Blood Reincarnation System do BONEHUNTER burst through the doors of greatness - and tear them off their fucking hinges! Immediately and irrevocably, the guitar leads across BONEHUNTER's fourth full-length bristle with an electricity that's amazing to behold, Burning Spirits-indebted or not; call them "anthemic" or even "hummable," it's not difficult to imagine these instantly ingraining tunes being sung back in full force from a crowd of maniacs high on heavy metal blood. Equally, the trio have sharpened their songwriting chops to an insanely focused degree, moving at many speeds and across many dynamics - relatively speaking, of course, for this is still BLACKENED SPEED METAL after all - but always sounding like the same band. And perhaps most remarkable is the production across Dark Blood Reincarnation System: the perfect balance of grit and gleam, blood and thunder, power and poise. But again, perhaps this is just form meeting content...and THOSE LEADS!

Reading into its title, Dark Blood Reincarnation System could very well spell the story of BONEHUNTER itself: evolution vs. revolution, revolution vs. reinvention, each record different but from the same band. HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present EXPUNGED's highly anticipated debut album, Into Never Shall, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

EXPUNGED is the brainchild of death metal master W.D., who's previously handled the axe in Dead Soul Alliance and Evolution Fail stretching as far back as the mid '90s. While W.D. is the songwriter, K.F. joined on drums (from old-school death metallers Töteblut) while J.S. (AKA Jo "Steel" Capitalicide from Ice War) is on vocal and lyrical duties as well as handling the bass, with the latter showing how versatile his singing abilities can somehow be. Formed in the spring of 2019, this Canadian power-trio proved how deadly their brand of downtuned HM-2-style death metal could be with their self-titled debut EP for HELLS HEADBANGERS, released to widespread acclaim in April 2020.

Wasting no time continuing their attack, EXPUNGED return with their first full-length, Into Never Shall. Now featuring A.K. on drums, the band have thankfully made no great changes to their juggernaut sound - exquisitely filthy, utterly crushing, immediately memorable, the inexorable onslaught of a monolithic, rust-covered tank - and Into Never Shall is all the better for it. If anything, EXPUNGED have upped the catchiness here whilst not once softening that molten crush. Similarly, while the grime of Expunged still courses through the album's viscous veins, there's a decidedly darker atmosphere being conjured across Into Never Shall, vividly matched by the gorgeously moody cover artwork courtesy of French fantasy novel painter  Didier Normand. Above all, this debut album underlines EXPUNGED's commitment to death metal classicism, reverent but never regressionist, and displays the power-trio's own take on it. Which is all to say nothing of yet another CRUSHING (and totally DIY) production courtesy of Top Das (Fuck The Facts) at his Apartment Two Studio.

If the tank crush of Expunged somehow missed you last year, there's simply no way to avoid the onslaught of EXPUNGED's Into Never Shall. Absolutely mandatory for maniacs of Nirvana 2002, Carnage, and especially Bolt Thrower!
