Lyrically, Splinter covers ongoing sociopolitical issues to historical events, horror themes to fictional characters; there are many ideas that can be found in the music. Overall, the tone of the EP is confrontational and delivers cathartic thrashing!

Tantrum is a Glasgow-based old-school metal band with a modern slant, combining classic guitar-driven riffs and driving rhythms with strong lyrical themes and solid vocal harmonies.

Formed by drummer Billy Angus in 2014, Tantrum released the Rough Cuts EP in 2016, with the debut album Melt it Down following in 2018. Immediately prior to COVID hitting the UK, Tantrum parted company with vocalist Steven Swanson, using the lockdown period to search for a replacement.

After a 24-year absence from the music scene, current vocalist Mark Reid joined the ranks in September, 2021. During the recording of what was slated to be the second album, guitarist Steve Waddell left to pursue a solo career and it was decided that the four completed tracks would be released an EP, entitled Worlds End.

Some thirty-eight days and myriad applicants later, Tantrum welcomed Baz Fitzsimmons to the ranks alongside long-standing guitarist Stoo Condie. Known for his work with Syth, Baz brought his own style of playing while still maintaining the tight, twin-guitar cannonade that Tantrum have become known for.

After the departure of bassist Ritchie Davison, the band asked temporary bassist Micah Snow—who Baz had played with in Farseer—to join the band on a full-time basis, and work soon began on the writing and recording of the second album.

With the recording of the album now complete, but still prior to its release, both Billy and Stoo decided that it was time for them to move on, with Billy retiring from playing and Stoo taking a well-earned sabbatical.

The band’s second album, Another Life, was released on July 28th 2023 with the debut single, “Sands of Time” receiving excellent reviews and boasting more than 25,000 Spotify streams as of August 23rd.

Rather than begin the search for a guitarist to replace Stoo, it was clear that the best candidate for the position was already in the band—Micah. A virtuoso guitarist at heart who had only taken up the mantle of bassist out of necessity, Micah didn’t take much persuading and so the hunt was now on for a drummer and bassist to complete the lineup for the next evolution of Tantrum.

In order to fill their bass-player-sized hole made by Micah’s jump to guitar, Tantrum once again opted to use a temporary bassist while they auditioned for the full-time replacement, this time turning to Chris Horne, a friend of Mark’s who had offered to swap his trusty guitar for a bass to help out. As before, Chris took the decision to make this a permanent position, much to the delight of the others.

Rather than stagnate while looking for the perfect drummer, Tantrum took the decision to place vocalist Mark—already an experienced drummer on his solo projects and session for others—behind the kit to allow them to continue moving forward and record their traditional Christmas EP without any loss of momentum.

In early January 2024, Tantrum embarked on a search for the perfect drummer to complete the lineup for the next phase of their musical journey. The auditions attracted numerous talented musicians, ultimately leading to the selection of Mark Riches as their new drummer.

Riches, renowned for his drumming prowess from his time with MacTallica, expressed his enthusiasm for joining Tantrum, stating, "Having been recommended to audition for Tantrum by my longtime friend Tony McShane of MacTallica, I spent an evening listening to their latest album Another Life and fell in love. It´s exactly what I was looking for musically". Tantrum are excited about the energy and expertise Mark Riches brings to the band and believes that his addition will further elevate their sound. Recording for the third album is already underway, more than half of which was written during the mixing and mastering process of last year’s Another Life. The second evolution of Tantrum has begun.

Guinness Record holders OVER THE UNDER release „Bida” video, embark on a UK tour with NOCNY KOCHANEK

Over The Under is a band operating on the Polish scene since 2014. In the second half of 2017, they took the idea of rock´n´roll to their hearts and decided to quit their regular jobs and play 100 concerts in 100 days without any breaks, thus breaking the Guinness record.

The band played two European tours covering countries such as: Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, England, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Czech Republic. In total, they played over 300 concerts.

OTU are three passionate musicians whose main occupation is creating and playing music and supporting the independent music scene in the newly opened concert club "Over the Under PUB" “Bida” (“Poverty”) comes from “The Red Album” and was originally released in 2022.

THREAT RELEASE LYRIC VIDEO FOR "THE PATH OF EVIL"

Threat originated from a jam session between the drummer Aleksandar Georgiev and the guitarist Pablo Diaz, both of them were involved in other musical projects and dedicated the jam sessions to playing covers of bands they listen to.

It wasn´t long until the need to write their own music arose and they began to write the band´s first songs realizing that there were still elements that need to be added. They posted an ad on a Facebook page and began looking for a bass player and a singer. To this responded Bassist Borislav Tsankov who joined the band and added his own feel to the sound of the band. Still the band had no singer, and yet we were already writing lyrics. Using his past experience, Pablo Diaz then decided to give it a go learning the lyrics and developing the sound the band was pursuing.

Several shows followed, playing their debut at a club called "The Point", and immediately being contacted by local producers and club owners for upcoming events. The band continued writing songs and playing shows, recording four songs that would be published and released individually; Madhouse, Forced to Obey, Incineration and Warped Reality. 

Not long after that the band came in contact with Valentin Nikitov, an eager guitarist who wanted to not only join the ranks, but also develop the band´s sound. Something that was more than welcomed by the other 3 members. This consolidated the 4 piece thrash metal machine you know today. 

It wasn´t long before there were enough songs for a full length production, the album "Warped Reality"; written in the context of self worth, determination and other related topics.

Going to a Threat show is a sure good time and a quality show that will drive your senses to levels you haven´t experienced before. 

In late 2023 there was a change in the lineup bringing Bassist Georgi Gerenov to the ranks. With his passion for groove, rhythm and fast riffs the band began a new era. They are THREAT, and they play Thrash!

Polish thrashers NEUTRINA release “Fresh Flesh” EP to the world

Were there awards for consistency, this Bydgoszcz-based band would be granted one for sure. Even working in remote countries hasn’t stopped them from finalizing their first official release. The EP “Fresh Flesh” was just released.

The band was formed in 2013 by the guitarists Miko and Zukier, who met on their way to Metalfest. Moraw sat behind the drums, and Spawacz grabbed the bass and microphone. With this lineup, the first single was released. After a short time theyrecorded an EP, which never saw daylight. They played a few concerts, visited a couple of cities, and in the meantime Eryk replaced Zukier, and Młody sat behind the drumkit. It stayed that way until the hell swallowed them up.

With the same lineup, they broke through the hordes of evil, screwed million of demons and returned to the world of the living. Their rage is reaching its peak, so they´re eager to smash a few places where they can!

About DELIRIA:

DELIRIA is an evocative post black metal band from the San Francisco Bay Area formed in 2017 by David Scanlon (DAWN OF OUROBOROS). A fundamental critique of consciousness, the band crafts ordinary life in endogenous melancholia. Quickly joined by vocalist Adam Rupp (KILL THE MESSENGER), the duo sought drummer Jared Klein (RIVERS OF NIHIL) to record their debut album, Nausea.   

Inspired by existential dread, Rupp's tortured misery and Scanlon's somber melodies coalesce in bleak pessimism and gloomy aurorae. Special guests on the album include Giuseppe Tato Tatangelo of Zora/Throne of Flesh and Gianluca Molè of Glacial Fear and Bastardi, adding an extra layer of depth and intensity to Innerload's already electrifying sound.

In anticipation of the album release, Innerload has partnered with international label Great Dane Records, renowned for their support of groundbreaking metal artists. VERITERAS is set to release its sophomore full-length album, The Dark Horizon, on April 11.

"The Dark Horizon really leans in on our old school melodic death metal roots, and as a result has a more blackened melodic death metal sound compared to our previous release, Shadow of Death. There's more tremolo picking, more blast beats, but still holding on to a very melodic core. We're very happy with how the album ended up, and we grew a ton through the process. The songwriting is more mature, the lyrics are stronger because Sean wrote most of them instead of me, the musicianship is better, and the mix is fantastic. We're all super excited to be sharing this album with the world, and hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it!"

Veriteras is an old-school melodic death metal band based in Seattle, Washington (U.S.). Formed in 2018, they are inspired by the Scandinavian melodic death scene (early-era In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Kalmah, etc.), and strive to write heavy songs with powerful and memorable melodies. After releasing two EPs in 2020 (Banished) and 2021 (Citadel), they debuted their first LP Shadow of Death in 2022, and toured Finland in support of the album. Swiss thrash metal powerhouse Comaniac is back with an adrenaline-fueled single that promises to ignite the ears of metal fans worldwide. Formed in 2012, Swiss thrashers Comaniac gained acclaim with their self-released debut, "Return To The Wasteland," crowned as "THE Thrash Highlight 2015." The 2017 release, "Instruction For Destruction," via SAOL, showcased growth, with tracks like "COAL" gaining international radio play and media attention.

Extensive touring ensued, supporting acts such as OVERKILL and METAL CHURCH. In 2018, they embarked on the "Kamikazee – The Spirit Of Japan" Tour, introducing a Japan Edition of their second offering through CAPTURED RECORDS. Following a 7-inch split with US outfit IRONFLAME and a 2019 European tour, 2020 brought their third album, "Holodox," produced by Tommy Vetterli (CORONER), receiving critical acclaim.

In 2021, they toured Switzerland with BURNING WITCHES and played major metal festivals. The momentum continued in 2022, joining VEKTOR (USA) for the "Activate Europe 2022" Tour, performing 26 shows consecutively. Anticipation grew in 2023 with the announcement of their fourth studio album, "None For All," and a deal with WORMHOLEDEATH. The album, set for a 2024 release, has already garnered attention from international magazines, praising it as their most mature work to date.

Ultio is a project by Giorgio Barroccu (DERHEAD) and “Cor” can be considered like the twistedly demented brother of “The Grey Zone Phobia”, DERHEAD’s latest album released back in March 2023.

Another side of the same, dark coin - ULTIO shares DERHEAD’s very same dramatic tension and despair, however showcasing here a magnificently unrestrained and raw soul: behind a gloomy wall of freezingly cold riffs and shrieking screams ULTIO ascends maniacally, building a sense of impending peril and oppression - dissonance after dissonance.

Similarly to the previous EP, the writing and recording process of “Cor” was also very instinctive and took place in the space of only a few weeks: the result is something furious and unhinged, raw and visceral - and yet, somehow, grandiose and triumphant in all its bestial savagery.

With Lifeless Birth, NECROT continues their ascent to the forefront of American aural extremity, pushing the boundaries of style and continuing to recast metal in their image. Founded by bassist/vocalist Luca Indrio and drummer Chad Gailey in 2011 with guitarist Sonny Reinhardt joining the following year, the Oakland, California trio offers Lifeless Birth as a culmination of their to-date efforts to encapsulate and push forward the deathly stylings of 2020’s Mortal and their 2017 debut, Blood Offerings.

Recorded with Grammy-winning producer Greg Wilkinson — who has helmed all three NECROT albums — and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, Lifeless Birth pivots fluidly between technical intricacy, progressive poise, and all-out brutality. Scouring lead work will have thrash heads nodding knowingly, and an overarching groove reaches out across the metal microgenres with a righteous call to worship. Its songs are memorable and varied, unpretentious but able to rear up with statelier violence. At the same time songs like “Drill The Skull,” “Cut The Cord,” and “The Curse” prove that just because a song is beating you into the ground doesn’t mean it can’t also be forward-thinking. After having their Mortal tour plans scuttled owing to the COVID pandemic, family health issues that led Indrio, who became a US citizen in 2016 and currently lives in Mexico, to return to Italy for a time canceled what would have been their first tour post-plague. Still, despite this and Gailey suffering a broken back, requiring multiple surgeries and intense physical therapy to be able to drum again, period, Indrio being struck with Bell’s Palsy the night before he was originally due to fly to the studio to record, and Reinhardt requiring multiple surgeries on his hands in the months since they finished, NECROT charges forward with material distinguished in its real-world point of view and willingness to look beyond extreme metal tropes in lyrics, the melodies of its guitar solos, and unbridled audience engagement.

OLD IRON RELEASE NEW SINGLE: "AHNIGHITO / FRACTAL STORM"

Satanik Royalty Records today unleashes a new two-track digital single from Seattle, Washington-based dirge trio, OLD IRON.

The songs -- “Ahnighito” and “Fractal Storm” -- were originally recorded for OLD IRON’s 2014-released Cordyceps full-length with Brandon Ramsey on drums. Reimagined with current drummer Trent McIntyre, these recordings stand as the best documentation of these songs in both performance and fidelity.

Thematically, they serve as bookends to the concept loosely running throughout Cordyceps: that human consciousness was affected by ancient exposure to extraterrestrial fungi by way of meteorites. Ten-thousand years ago the Cape York meteorite broke into three pieces as it hit Greenland. Named after one of these pieces, “Ahnighito” chronicles its descent to earth and the harvesting of its iron. Maybe there was more than just rock and metal in that meteorite!

The exposure inevitably leads to fungal growth inside the host finishing with a psychedelic crescendo. Sit back and relax as the layers of your mind peel away into the “Fractal Storm.”

“Ahnighito” and “Fractal Storm” were recorded by Nicholas Wilbur, mixed by the inimitable Matt Bayles, and mastered by Brad Boatright.

The tritone -- also known as “the Devil’s interval” -- is a pairing of notes that are three whole steps apart. It’s simply an interval between two frequencies, but for whatever reason, the human brain translates that pairing as sounding evil. Western composers avoided the note combination for centuries. The church frowned upon its use. It’s strange that two notes could elicit such negative reactions. But this is part of the magic of music—that certain combinations of frequencies trigger specific human emotions.

OLD IRON certainly doesn’t shy away from the tritone or any other malicious note combination, and their explorations of the emotional implications of dissonance run parallel to their navigation of altered states and archaic sciences.

Jerad Shealey (The Helm, Heiress) and Jesse Roberts (Sandrider, Kid Congo Powers, The Ruby Doe) started writing music with original drummer Brandon Ramsey during 2011 with the goal of getting loud, heavy, and weird. Later that year their first self-released full-length Cordyceps (2012) was recorded in Roberts’ basement. Current drummer, Trent McIntyre joined the ranks soon thereafter. With McIntyre in the equation their second record came into focus. With Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Botch) at the engineering helm, Lupus Metallorum (2016) was recorded at The Red Room in Seattle and released on Good To Die Records in 2016. The critically lauded offering captured the full weight of a band whose megalithic sound had previously best been experienced live and in the flesh. In 2022, the band teamed up with French doom/hardcore practitioners Verdun for the release of a four-track split via Satanik Royalty Records.

TRIBUNAL will be touring in support of their acclaimed debut LP, The Weight Of Remembrance, released in June of 2023 on 20 Buck Spin. Featuring classically trained cellist/bassist/vocalist Soren Mourne and guitarist/vocalist Etienne Flinn, TRIBUNAL’s brick-heavy classic doom riffage borders on death metal heaviness, like My Dying Bride filtered through a colossal stained-glass edifice. The sound is instantly familiar with nods to the ‘80s and ‘90s but never sounds retro or like mere homage. Rather, The Weight Of Remembrance evokes the feeling of a painstakingly composed orchestral movement fit for a crumbling cathedral overgrown with moss. The duo frequently trades off vocals alternating between haunted wailing cleans, scathing black-metal style shrieks and dread-filled death calls.

The Weight Of Remembrance features additional contributions from several other talented musicians, including drums by Julia Geaman, additional drums on “Apathy’s Keep” by Magdalena Wienski, piano on “Remembrance” by Claine Lamb, and additional vocals by Rory Say. The album was recorded by TRIBUNAL except for the primary drums which were recorded by Andrew Conroy at Fifth Chord Studios and Wienski’s drums which were recorded by Violetta Macri at CJSF, after which the songs were mixed and mastered by Markov Soroka. The beautifully painted cover artwork was created by Soren Mourne, with lettering and frame by Karmazid, photography by Liam Kanigan, and layout by Dan Fried completing the presentation. Steeped in the black velvet finery of gothic doom metal, the band weaves dark tales of ultimate judgement, never-ending rain, and forsaken despair.
