ARCHED FIRE RELEASE "REMOTE CONTROL"

4. Crawling Down

5. ...And Ride Away

6. A.T.W.

7. Wormhole

Biography:

Remote Control, Arched Fire’s debut album, has some history. It is where the past meets the present. ”We’ve only been doing this for a couple of years, but there was a thirty-year gap in between,” explains Ari, the rhythm guitar player.

THE PAST

Formed in the small town of Kemijärvi in Finnish Lapland in 1989 by Aslak Purojärvi (drums), Mika Rytilahti (bass), Janne Särkelä (guitar) and Ari Väntänen (guitar), Arched Fire started from scratch.

”We were 14, 15 years old and had no idea what we were doing, but we did it all in the right order: 1) formed a band 2) bought the instruments 3) learned to play. And we always wrote our own songs.” Having started as a heavy rock band, they soon steered towards harder and darker metal, inspired by American and Finnish speed/thrash bands. ”If our generation had a punk revolution, that was it. Speed/thrash was a real game-changer.” Meanwhile, the global metal scene started to take shape - not that the guys knew much about it. ”There was no metal scene whatsoever in the middle of nowhere. We played a handful of gigs with local pop and rock bands that sounded nothing like us. A radio DJ called us ‘heavy speed’ because he didn’t know what our genre was called, which we thought was hilarious. But it was all great; we even got to play live on the air twice and didn’t even think it was a big deal or anything!” Along with some live and rehearsal recordings, Arched Fire made a four-track demo. When it was (favourably) reviewed in the Finnish rock press in late 1990, the band had already split up.

”It was our first real band, and we were just teenagers. Things changed fast and life went on, and all we really needed was someone to buy us some beers. But although we went our separate ways, we never forgot Arched Fire.”

THE PRESENT

As life happened, they lost touch with each other, but not with music. They all kept on playing in different bands, from power pop to black metal, from prog fusion to folk music. Decades flew by until the time felt right to get back together.

”We listened to our old recordings and began wondering what we would have sounded like, had we known what we were doing. We decided to find out, just for the fun of it.” That required some  serious work. They kept their old, simple, energetic riffs, but completely re-arranged the song structures and wrote some new parts where needed. “We realized the vocal lines had to be totally re-written. Back in the turn of the 90s, we talked about finding a singer and a front-man. We never did, because there simply weren’t any in our tiny home town. But now, we all lived in different cities and knew a lot of musicians.” Soon, Kristian Herkman–an old band mate of Rytilahti’s–joined the band. “As soon as he sent us his first demo version of ‘Escape’, he just felt right. He sounds the part and writes fantastic vocal lines. He really took the band on a whole new level.” Adding a couple of new songs among the old material, the re-born band started to work on an album. “We wanted to keep the songs simple like they used to be, but with the know-how we have now. Production-wise, we wanted it to sound old-school, but with present-day standards. The plan was to make our teenage kicks meet our present skills as musicians, and it was a lot of fun.” And when it came to coming up with a genre, it turned out it had been there since 1989. “We used to joke about the silly ‘heavy speed’ moniker that the radio dj came up with ages ago, but it’s actually an apt description of what Arched Fire sounds like; heavy metal meets speed metal. So, a heavy speed band we are!”

REMOTE CONTROL

Soon after finishing the album, Arched Fire signed with WormHoleDeath Records. “Remote Control is Arched Fire’s first album. We were working on it throughout the year 2020. Most of the time was spent on writing songs. We created new music, wrote lyrics and developed some ideas and concepts from the band’s early days. The music is straight-forward and in-your-face; speed metal meets heavy metal. A lot of the songs are dealing with themes like power and control on different levels and from different angles - thus, Remote Control. It’s a fitting title also because we often had to co-operate from distance (for obvious reasons).”

ARTILLERY RELEASE VIDEO FOR "TURN UP THE RAGE"

PRESS RELEASE:

On May 7th, Artillery will release their tenth full-length, X, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of X, a video for the new single, "Turn up the Rage" (produced by Terkel Christensen // Aggressive Artwork), can be viewed at: youtu.be/-1yVzWY4scY

The previously released single, "In Thrash We Trust", can be heard at: metalblade.com/artillery - where the album can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

- ltd. digipak-CD (incl. 2 bonus tracks)

- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)

- blood red / blue marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 300 copies)

- viole(n)t blue marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)

- blue / red / white melt splatter vinyl (limited to 200 copies)

In the mid-1980s, Denmark's Artillery established themselves as being at the cutting edge of the thrash movement, and nearly forty years later, they continue to destroy. Returning with their tenth - and aptly titled - full-length X, they prove once again that they have not missed a step, delivering a record that's ruthlessly heavy, catchy and pure molten metal. "We wanted to have the typical Artillery trademarks, like the riffs and hook lines in the usual combination together with aggression and melody. We always try to combine melodic thrash metal with elements from the heavy sounds of the 70s and the 80s, and this time with new elements in some of the songs," says guitarist Michael Stützer. "We don't have to push ourselves hard when we're writing a record because we love what we're doing."

Sadly, guitarist - and Stützer's brother - Morten Stützer passed in 2019, which understandably affected the band. Having played a big part in shaping Artillery's songs and appearing on every album up to 2018's riveting The Face Of Fear, his loss is a real blow. "It was tough, even if he did not play live with us since 2016, he was always supporting us. Morten was a unique musician and writer and a very humorous guy, and following his death was the first time ever I thought about stopping playing music. But, he always said that I had to go on with Artillery and continue playing if he was not there anymore. He will be missed so much." Admitting it was very strange entering into the writing process without him, the brothers typically playing off each other a lot, they still managed to pull things together, helped by the contributions of new guitarist Kræn Meier, who has been playing live with the band since 2017.

X was tracked in Medley Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark with producer Søren Andersen, who the band have worked with on every record since 2009's When Death Comes. As well as his production work, Andersen contributed some keyboards to "The Ghost Of Me", also adding some effects to a few other songs, and the band recruited their drivers/merch men to contribute some backing vocals on four tracks. With the record in the can, the band are able to start to look toward what is next, hoping the Coronavirus pandemic passes soon so that they can get back on the road, but now is also a good time for reflecting on what they have achieved at this point in their lengthy career. "It feels great and awesome to have been going for nearly forty years. I'm so glad, and I am so lucky that I can do what I love the most, making albums and touring for our awesome fans. If anyone had told me forty years ago that I would have made ten albums and played in over sixty different countries, I wouldn't have believed it."

MILLSTONE RELEASE "ISLE" + VIDEO FOR "ZOMBIELAND"

PRESS RELEASE:

Siberian metal collective MILLSTONE have joined forces with New Noise Magazine in premiering the official video for "Zombieland." The song is taken from forthcoming album Isle. Check out the video at the following location:

newnoisemagazine.com/video-premiere-millstone-zombieland

Isle falls under the groove\death-metal umbrella, with melodic solos, varied rhythms and a "wall-of-sound" density. Each of the nine tracks carries its own unique mood; from acoustic sketches to bottom-heavy Meshuggah-esque passages, along with a lethal dose of straightforward classic thrash.

Isle was written by MILLSTONE mastermind Ivan Scherbakov and produced by Vladimir Lehtinen (Second To Sun, Ultar, Grima, etc.), Isle is a concept album based on sci-fi novel “The Inhabited Island” (Arkady and Boris Strugatsky).

Isle will be out on CD and digital formats on May 15.. Pre-orders are available at https://smarturl.it/MILLSTONE_ISLE

REALITY GREY RELEASE NEW ALBUM "BENEATH THIS CROWN" + VIDEO FOR "POWERBLAST"

PRESS RELEASE:

Reality Grey has been making their rounds through the Italian metal scene since 2004, having spent years touring and playing alongside bands such as Deicide and Municipal Waste plus three well-received full-lengths under their belts. This year, they will be adding a new album “Beneath This Crown” to their legacy.

Earlier this April, they dropped their latest single “Powerblast” from the forthcoming record, a very groovy song where the guitars and drums create an immense monolithic wall of sound. And speaking of drums, the band is sharing their playthrough video for the track via its premiere on Sick Drummer Magazine HERE

Drummer Francesco Inchingolo adds:

"It's one of my favourite songs to play out of the new album, it is very challenging with the double bass with all those triplets, and implements several different techniques, I need to be very focused when I play it. The drumset I used has a very dynamic sound and the double pedal is very light and easy to use, which is vital to play this song properly."

Until they can hit the stage again, Reality Grey hopes that “Beneath This Crown” will tide over fans with its aggressive, melodic vocals and razor-sharp guitar solos. According to them, the creative process for this release has been very meticulous and nothing has been left to chance. On this offering, the music has affected the lyrics; there is a lot of anger and a bit of sadness.

Completely aggressive and refreshingly catchy, Reality Grey is recommended for fans of Scar Symmetry, Lamb of God, and Unearth.

“Beneath This Crown” will be out via Blood Blast Distribution, powered by Nuclear Blast as of May 7, 2021.

OBSOLETE PREMIERS NEW ALBUM "ANIMATE // ISOLATE"

PRESS RELEASE:

Decibel has premiered Animate//Isolate, the upcoming new album from Death Thrashers OBSOLETE!

Animate//Isolate (Exclusive Album Premiere)

decibelmagazine.com/2021/04/14/album-premiere-obsolete-animate-isolate

"This is how technical death metal should sound. The band strikes that elusive course, spinning heads with technical ability and complexity, but keeping them banging with memorable moments and an engaging narrative structure."

- Decibel

"One of death metal’s most face-meltingly delicious releases in 2021."

- Heavy Blog is Heavy

“Animate//Isolate is the must-hear metal album of the year so far!"

- Skull Fracturing Metal

"Sharp lookin’ record, tons of riffs, their brains are attached when they shred, and the flow of the tracklist is immense. A high recommendation."

- Grizzly Butts

"They let the music do the talking, and after listening to this album, they are making a pretty powerful statement!"

- Rock and Metal Temple

Unspeakable Axe Records will release Animate//Isolate April 19 on CD and cassette. Pre-orders available on Bandcamp and the UAR Store.

For a certain type of metal purist, extremity is defined not by blast beats and bowel-bothering growls, but by how fast a band can sand your face off with a riff that is both instantly memorable, and so intricate and alien that you can't begin to understand how to play it on a lowly human guitar. By that metric, OBSOLETE may be that certain purist's favorite band.

Every riff here is fine-tuned for maximum cerebral carnage. Why play a normal scale in a normal way at a normal speed, when you can play a bizarre, upside-down bit of nightmare logic at warp 9? Somehow OBSOLETE is able to bang out riff after riff in this style all over their new album Animate//Isolate. Just as impressively, they string them together into comprehensible structures and memorable songs--a collision of head-bangable death/thrashing goodness and advanced technicality encountered only occasionally in such predecessor bands as SADUS and demo-era CYNIC. Adding in occasional splashes of black metal and avant-death dissonance, OBSOLETE manages to craft a debut album that stands apart from the crowd without resorting to gimmicks or unlistenable experimentation.

With Animate//Isolate, OBSOLETE have put together one hell of a first salvo. Nine tracks deep and bristling with ideas and hyperactive energy, this is a death/thrash album that any fan of either genre should hear.

Creativity. Ferocity. Technicality. Obsolete. Animate. Isolate.
