When considering the unbreathable climate of tension that exists in our societies, and that the filthy degree of frivolity can no longer go any further, one is still surprised every day with new heights of intransigence and insufferable foolishness. In Distopia Digital, Angoixa’s fourth album, the death metal band, singing in Catalan, lashes out against all this “with high doses of social criticism in their lyrics”, they explain, “dealing with issues such as war, abuse of power, immigration, the struggle for freedom and, above all, attacking the digital evil that currently stalks us”. There is no other choice, because as a species we are hitting rock bottom.

Angoixa were founded in the spring of 2014 as a personal project of Robert Garcia, singer and guitarist who recorded his first two albums in his home studio that same year. Once Héctor (guitar, backing vocals), Uri (bass) and Mario (drums) came on board to deliver Esclaus De La Por (2018), the album that put them on the map and allowed them to play alongside Skeletonwitch or Cerebral Effusion, Angoixa did nothing but grow in all aspects.

Now, three years later and after putting themselves in the hands of Mr Ax in his Axtudio in Barcelona for the recording and mixing, and none other than Dan Swanö in his Unisound in Sweden for the mastering, with Distopia Digital they deliver us the seven most forceful, hard-working and mature songs they have ever created. Because their new album not only crushes and shakes you when it feels like it, but through skilful melodies, dubbed vocals or subtle samples programmed by themselves when the song needs it, it also offers interesting nuances to those who give this album the conscientious listening it deserves.

Daniel Alarcón’s cover completely captures the ideas behind Distopia Digital, an album of dark and gloomy old school death metal that through songs like ‘La Crisàlide’, ‘Regne De Sang’ or ‘Monstres’ will shake you to your core.

Nocturnal Sickness is the debut album from Finland’s Cryptic Hatred. Recorded by Cryptic Hatred and mixed by Olli Nokkala at Kolotila studios in Helsinki, Finland. Mastered by Jaakko Viitalähde at Virtalähde Mastering, Kuhmoinen, Finland. Songs and lyrics written by Eemil Lajoma and Jami Lamio.

Finland’s Cryptic Hatred perform monolithic, feral death metal that taps into the vein of 1990s classics—yet re-forges them in the fires of youth. The band came together in 2019 when Jami Lamio (guitars), Tatu Saves (drums), Eemil Lajoma (guitars, vox) and Miska Hagelberg (bass) met in high school. In 2020, they settled on the name Cryptic Hatred and self-recorded and released the 8-song Free from the Grave demo. In 2021 they became a powerful live force in the Finnish death metal scene, honing their chops before a growing, dedicated fanbase. 

The Other Records is now proud to present their debut full-length: Nocturnal Sickness. The album sees the newcomers transgressing conventional boundaries of aural revulsion, digging the grave of 90s death metal and bending its corpse towards more contemporary malformations. FUELED BY FIRE was formed in 2002 by a group of Southern California teenagers that bonded over a love of '80s thrash metal acts such as Exodus, Testament and Possessed. The group recorded their first demo in 2004 and emerged as a persistent presence on local concerts throughout the greater Los Angeles region. Those shows saw them open for many of the iconic acts that they grew up worshipping, as well as performing alongside other burgeoning thrash bands that were emerging around them in Southern California such as Warbringer and Hexen. The group initially self-released their 2006 debut album, “Spread The Fire.” The album was praised by AllMusic.com for its “authentic thrash,” and the combination of their impressive studio effort and prolific live performances earned the attention of Metal Blade Records, who reissued the record a year later. 

The group soon spread their sound on stages across the United States alongside fellow rising thrashers such as Bonded by Blood and Merciless Death before re-emerging with their self-released 2010 follow-up record, “Plunging Into Darkness.” That album was applauded by Metal-Rules.com for serving as a reminder of “just how vibrant thrash metal can be,” and the band followed up that momentum by touring Europe alongside heavy hitters such as Kreator, Morbid Angel and Nile. The group applied a more sinister tone to their lyrics and compositions on 2013's “Trapped in Perdition,” which was released by NoiseArt Records and produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse). The album received accolades from Burning Ambulance for being “their best album yet” and – alongside well-received performances the following year on European festivals such as Hellfest and Metalfest Open Air Loreley – cemented FUELED BY FIRE's reputation as generators of powerful thrash metal.
