GOMORRAN RELEASE "EXCERPTS FROM THE DARK AGE" EP

PRESS RELEASE:

Finnish Helsinki-based blackened death metal band Gomorran released their debut record Excerpts From the Dark Age on December 3rd 2021 via Inverse Records. To celebrate the release, band also released their third music video Esaiah and it's available here: https://youtu.be/0QKMJdi-A2Y

Guitarist Joonatan Wiitasalo & drummer Olli Lappalainen comments:

“It is an incredible feeling to behold the final product. When we first started this project in 2019 with Joonatan and thought about all the things we could do, the making and publishing of our own record was barely a dream. We talked about “what would be cool to do”. In the end that alone motivated a lot and it sparked a deep will to create something real. In a way it was evident, that nothing happens by itself and no one is gonna make anything come to fruition for you. Then we formed a band and now after two years of hard work we have a complete record and big hopes and medium sized plans for the future.

We have poured countless hours of time and energy into this record, but lo and behold this chapter came to an end. This record is our magnum opus at least so far, a project that let’s us show the work we have done during this quarantine year. This record encapsulates four musicians’ lifelong love of metal music - the song ideas that have finally come into reality.”

BIOGRAPHY:

Gomorran was formed in Helsinki in the Fall of 2019 when Olli Lappalainen’s hiatus from playing drums came to an end. There was a burning desire to form a new band and get back to producing metal music. Guitarist Joonatan Wiitasalo ended his own hiatus and joined to release his heavy music creativity. In the following months many new song ideas came to light.

Even though the composing was proceeding strong, the band desperately lacked members. By the end of summer 2020 the band was joined by an ambassador of evil soundwaves, singer guitarist Perttu Laamanen. Perttu gave a huge boost to the composing of new material. Song structures and ideas formed into complete songs and Gomorran started to plan on producing its debut record. In the beginning of 2021, right before the recordings of Excerpts from the Dark Age, bassist Panu Nykänen joined to amplify the lower frequencies.

When Olli and Joonatan wanted to compose merciless ass-kicking music, inspired by Ajattara and Cannibal Corpse, Gomorran’s first song Black Plague was born in the spring of 2020. The song was held as a beacon to the direction the band should musically strive forward to. Gomorran perceives their music as death metal that draws influence from the murkiness of black metal. The impact of other music genres cannot be downplayed, since the members of the band own a wide range of musical influences. Lyrics on the Excerpts from the Dark Age record include harrowing stories about the Roman empire, Middle Ages and from pagan literature.

The band ended up recording their debut record Excerpts from the Dark Age independently in the band’s rehearsal room in Vallila, Helsinki. Mixing and recording was done by Gomorran’s drummer Olli Lappalainen. Choir, keyboard and strings were arranged and produced by Markus Lappalainen. The recording and mixing of the album was finished in July of 2021, following mastering done by Sound Spiral Studios’ Juho Räihä. Excerpts from the Dark Age was published in the fall of 2021 by Inverse Records, a record label and a release agency.

URFERD RELEASE "RESAN"

PRESS RELEASE:

Release Date: April 15 2022

FFO: Eluveitie, Moonsorrow , Equilibrium

Location: Falun, Sweden

URFERD signifies the beginning of a new and additional musical chapter for its founder and sole member, Daniel Beckman (TWILIGHT FORCE, AGES), and brings a refreshing new perspective to the genre, challenging the boundaries of dark atmospheric folk music. The first album “RESAN” is a musical odyssey in both a literal and figurative sense. The album takes the listener on a journey through dark and olden nordic forests; where strife and hardships follows in our steps, yet where the beauty and vastness of the solemn nordic landscape persists and permeates. From the album opening’s depiction of a serene morning’s dawn, to the closing track’s respite of a hearth at nightfall, RESAN traverses a multitude of captivating musical landscapes and themes throughout its eight songs.

OSHIEGO RELEASE "JALJALUT"

Genre: Death Metal

Label: Seven Kings Productions

Singapore-based Death metal band Oshiego set January 14, 2022 as the international release date for their 5th full-length album Jaljalut. Album will be released by Seven Kings Productions.

Oshiego has been perfecting Death Metal since 2004. The current line-up of Oshiego consists of Umar (vocals), Zul (guitars and bass) and Krzysztof Klingbein (session drums). Oshiego takes heavy musical influences from notable bands such as Kreator, Melechesh and Grave, as well as incorporating Middle Eastern touches into their songs. Lyrically-driven by subjects involving injustice, war, Islamic mysticism and the inevitable struggles of life. Oshiego is determined to Thrash and Destroy!

Oshiego released an MCD titled Unending Carnage in 2009. Favourable reviews were garnered by this release from reviewers of Sea of Tranquility, Metal Team UK and Castle of Vampiria (Spanish). This release consisted of two new songs (also recorded by Leonard Soosay at Snakeweed studios) and the four songs from the “Now Suffer” demo, all mastered by Michael Kalember (Absence Of The Sacred).

In late 2009, work commenced on Oshiego’s debut full-length album, ‘Woe to the Conquered’. Again, it was recorded by Nathanial Chew and Leonard Soosay at Snakeweed studios. The completed work was sent to Hertz Studios in Poland to be mastered, who morphed the already brutal recording into a relentless assault, poised to strike at the hearts of the unbelievers.

Oshiego went on a hiatus from live shows from May 2009, but returned with a vengeance to bring the crushing tones of their music to the masses from the live stage yet again in 2010, with a gig which was aptly named, Now Suffer. The resounding response to the gig is reflected in a gig review, which described the closing act as follows: “The set for the night finally ended with local pharaohs Oshiego bringing down the house with the wall of death poised to portray their adulation.” Clearly Oshiego’s capacity to entertain an audience live has not been undermined by the months of silence.

Oshiego released ‘Woe to the Conquered’ in 2011 independently. It was during this era that Oshiego shared the stage with notable bands such as Marduk and Misery Index in Indonesia

In 2013, Oshiego released their sophomore album, The Great Architect of Nothing’, under the label, Horror Pain Gore Death Productions (HPGD). Eight soul shattering original tracks of groovy, neck-breaking riffs, bonecrushing subsonic bass and primal, warlike exteme percussion plus a cover of Vomitory’s ‘The Voyage’. This is where Oshiego truly found their sound.

Oshiego released their third album in 2015, ‘Crossing the Bridge of Siraat’. Considered to be their masterpiece Oshiego were more devastating than ever before. Merciless riffs, Middle-Eastern stylings, groove and melody combine with an uncompromising old school approach resulting in total sonic torment!

In 2019 Oshiego release their 4th album, ‘The Book of Wonders’ with multi-talented musician, Jared Moran, who has many projects under his belt (Uzumaki, Ange De La Mort, Boiled Tongue, Filrth Eater, etc).

Oshiego released their Single, “Clerics Of Corruption”, Friday 3rd September 2021. A soul shattering track of pure malice and hate. A song that emerged from the inner recesses of rage, anger & an uncompromising hate of the unjust! This track will feature the Blistering Guitars of Oshiego’s newest member Zul & the drumming of the young and talented Krzysztof Klingbein who was on tour with Vader for the De Profundis XXV – Album Reedition Tour 2021.

Oshiego released their Single, “Litany Of The Sea”, Friday 1st October 2021. A song inspired by the renowned litany of the great 13th century Sufi & Mystic of Morocco, Abū al-Hasan al-Shādhilī. A Powerful and Majestic expression of both slavehood and poverty toward absolution. This track feature the Blistering Guitars of Oshiego’s newest member Zul & the drumming of the young and talented Krzysztof Klingbein.

About

When drummer/vocalist Proscriptor McGovern (Russ R. Givens) dissolved Absu on January 27th 2020, his main intention was to splinter the 30-year old faction into a renewed songwriting concord. Proscriptor McGovern’s Apsû is the obvious by-product of that chemical breakdown, which constitutes a new incarnation and direct continuation of Absu’s legacy. Securing the ranks, alongside McGovern, are continuing bassist/vocalist Ezezu (Absu: 2008-2020), new guitar virtuoso Vaggreaz (Possessed, Gruesome) and keyboardist Vorskaath (Zemial, Agatus). Since Absu’s last, unreleased album was to be penned as “Apsû,” McGovern fused the title with his name to form the group. With this much anticipated, self-titled album, McGovern’s objective was to append the signature sound of “mythological occult metal,” but to convolute it with bouts of psychedelia, fusion and vintage electronics.

When asked about the album’s final outcome, McGovern stated the following: “Having the opportunity to assemble these band members, in the development of this album, was a remarkable honour and I strongly feel this album captures the band’s true, yet frenzied potential.” McGovern, who also produced and co–engineered the album, added: “I specifically appointed these three to...  more

______________________

While MYSTRAS' previous album "Castles Conquered and Reclaimed" dealt with peasant uprisings, new album "Empires Vanquished And Dismantled" moves into the topic of medieval imperialism, following the band's motto "Medieval Black Metal Against Empire and Aristocracy". The central point of the album consists of the first two metal songs, "On The Promises Of Angels" and the 14-minute epic "The Fall Of The Kingdom Of Jerusalem", both thematically dealing with the Crusades as the progenitor of the European colonialism of the 15th century: the first song tells about the successful conquest of Jerusalem, while the second narrates the history of its loss in the hands of Saladin.

Sole member Ayloss (SPECTRAL LORE) couldn't obviously leave out a song centered around the premises of the Byzantine Empire, and in fact "The Favor Of The Saints" deals with the successful Bulgarian uprising lead by Peter and Asen in the 12th century, one of the major blows which lead to the weakening and eventual dissolution of the Empire.

Musically, "Empires Vanquished And Dismantled" follows the same stylistic path of MYSTRAS' debut but with a much clearer and stronger sound, and without betraying the lo-fi and atmospheric aesthetics of the project. Much more focus and effort was given into the folk tracks, produced with the help of six session musicians and their exotic instruments, like the Turkish ney, the violin and the santoor, while two singers lent their powerful voices into the instrumentals: Nina Saeidi from the doom band Lowen, and opera singer Carling Chiu.

Where "Castles..." was mostly centered around european medieval music, the focus in "Empires..." changes towards the East, featuring the ney - played by ney specialist Stamatis Zafeiropoulos - as the focal point of the folk tracks, which include covers of Arabic, Byzantine and German tunes as well as the original drone piece "Cheragheh Zolmezalem (Oppression's Fire)", written on Persian and Arabic modes.

About

Godless is back with its brand of thrash-laced death metal—this time with the debut LP “States of Chaos.” The full-length album sees the band unleash 8 intense and unfaltering tracks that promise to pummel the listener into submission.

Godless have once again roped in Poland’s Hertz Studio (Vader, Behemoth, Decapitated) to handle the mixing and mastering duties for the album, and the result is a uniquely vicious-sounding record.

The album explores psychological trepidation & terror and phantasmagorias of dreamscapes that are sure to induce nightmares.

Over time, Godless has proven to be a force in the subcontinental metal movement, and with their debut LP "States of Chaos," the band aims to propel their brand of thrashy death metal to more parts of the world more than ever before.

MORTIFERUM RELEASE "PRESERVED IN TORMENT"

PRESS RELEASE:

Preserved In Torment

by MORTIFERUM

Genre: Death Doom Metal

Label: Profound Lore Records

Tracklist:

1.Eternal Procession 06:49

2.Incubus Of Bloodstained Visions 07:51

3.Seraphic Extinction 05:54

4.Exhumed From Mortal Spheres 05:38

5.Caudex Of Flesh 06:29

6.Mephitis Of Disease 07:05

About

On their sophomore album Preserved in Torment, Olympia WA’s doomed death metal unit MORTIFERUM push their penchant for dark, depraved, and disgusting dirges even further out into the periphery. Picking up where they left off with their Profound Lore debut Disgorged from Psychotic Depths, MORTIFERUM continue to mine the poisonous quagmire of classic American death metal, the warped visions of Finnish death metal, and the suffocating lurch of funeral doom for inspiration, but the resulting six tracks on Preserved in Torment operate on a larger scale, both in musical scope and in sheer crushing weight.

Recorded over the span of twelve days at Soundhouse in Seattle WA with Andrew Oswald at the engineering/mixing helm, Preserved in Torment finds MORTIFERUM expanding on the ominous atmospherics of their past work while simultaneously pushing and refining their work into even more vile and oppressive sonic territories. From the moment the album opens with “Eternal Procession,” the listener is laid to waste with the band’s monolithic siege, with impossibly heavy riffs and relentless mid-tempo drum barrages creating the aural equivalent of being trampled beneath the hooves of some unstoppable army. MORTIFERUM don’t shy away from long-form songwriting on Preserved in Torment, yet the band doesn’t waste a note in crafting their epic assaults. The eight-minute opus “Incubus of Bloodstained Visions” harnesses all of the band’s cataclysmic impulses even as they display an increased capacity for wretched harmonies, dynamic tempo shifts, and nimble fretwork, resulting in a composition that taps into prog rock ambitions without succumbing to the clinical perfectionism of progressive death metal virtuosos. They reassert their integrated devotion to both putrid riffs and foul melodicism on “Caudex of Flesh,” where troglodyte death metal impulses merge with the chasmic doom of classic Cathedral.

With guitarist/vocalist Max Bowman and guitarist Chase Slaker having cut their teeth in the death/grind outfit Bone Sickness and drummer Alex Mody having played in funeral doom group Ēōs, it only follows that MORTIFERUM would find a way to fuse their musical roots into a cohesive hybrid of grotesque savagery and glacial mass. While some credit must be paid to pioneers like Rippikoulu and Disembowelment, the band sees their sound as less indebted to past attempts at crosspollinating these disparate approaches and more as a result of organic gut-level intuition and a natural inclination towards musical experimentation. In a nod to the Pacific Northwest’s esteemed history of low-tuned slow-hand sludge, bassist Tony Wolfe further expands the group’s sound with thick slabs of gut-churning distorted bass. Paired with the continued cover art painting by Chase Slaker, MORTIFERUM create an all-encompassing sense of dread and morbidity that is distinctly their own.
