''As Heavy As Texas'' is taken from their upcoming album, Sanctified Heathen, releasing via Black Doomba Records on March 18.

The band comments:

“ This is the first song we wrote after Covid cut our tour Short to Play festivals in Austin in March of 2020. It was a strange time as we watched the world shut down and one of us became very ill.  A friend took us in for three days and we soaked in the landscape and ambiance of Texas. There was this feeling in riff and rhythm that personified our extremely bizarre and positive  experience. People at the venues were thanking us for not canceling out as other bands had. The Texas metal community has the most hospitable people on earth. The song wrote itself in literally ten minutes. We even returned to Texas to film the music video for the song. ”

Formed back in 2018 by brothers Patrick and Anthony Salerno, and aptly named after the graveyard situated next to their home, GRAVE NEXT DOOR delves into the dark and macabre. Drawing from the iconic sounds of BLACK SABBATH, BLACK FLAG and even CREAM, all blended with the trio’s individual edge. Sanctified Heathen sees the band deliver brutally heavy distortion, doom grooves and powerful vocals. A morbid exploration awaits with lyrical themes of addiction, mortality, war, and their own personal experiences seeping through the album.

"This is the place where I rest my bones and the river that cleanses me runs alone!" cries frontman Riley McShane on the track. "This song is about finding a place of inner quiet, a safe haven to explore your thoughts and escape from the anxieties of your life," the vocalist explains. "This lyrical intention is paired with a depiction of disparity and tiredness with the world around you and the stressors that contribute to the deafening silence of the mundane. In the music video, we showcase a more physical - and graphic - display of this thought process where the escape from the daily grind is manifested into a willing self-sacrifice. Though a dramatization, this concept of sacrifice to find your own personal peace can be applied to something less tangible and played an important role in my own process while writing the lyrics for DAMNUM. Two words about "Your Name"

"Fear, rage, hate, pain... Four stages in a descent of the human soul, four ways of describing a person

who no longer knows what to do and doesn't want to be helped and wears his heart like a black cloak."

Hellfox trademark is represented by the dualism between Greta and Priscilla’s voices, which intertwine while telling the tales of the album. But let the band members’ words speak for their own:

“Hellfox is an alternative metal (alt-metal) leaning towards melodic Death Metal. In spite of four rather different musical backgrounds, we’re on the same page on the inspiration we draw from Amorphis, In Flames and  Dark Tranquillity in the process of songwriting, while we’ve chosen to detach from the Symphonic context, widely regarded as feminine, inserting acid, distorted synths in order to create a modern mood we felt our own and committed more adherently to the pop vibe of Greta’s melodic voice. The dualism existing within Hellfox is not to be meant as a conflicting one, it’s rather the result of different voices interacting inside the human soul, different faces if we want to put it down this way. Faces mingling and generating the person in itself, in its entirety, who create and live in harmony and balance although seemingly clashing one another. We do not use masks to conform to the mass, while we don’t even want to distinguish ourselves at any cost, in a society where normality is a mere surface. The abyss, on the other hand, is made of countless personality facets, both for the collective and the single human being. Our message is accessible to all, everyone can recognize it in her or himself: that small, tiny voice in your head which attracts or repulses you…’cause nothing is normal for us, nothing is different.”

Hellfox was born from the 4 members’ different musical tastes and influences. We're not trying to fit into a genre, our music expremes the need to convey what we have behind the mask everyone wears in every day life, independently of what we are. Instrumental parts are made of acid and distorted sounds with great atmospheres, where two voices fights with each other’s. The band formed during 2019 winter, thanks to the Greta and Priscilla rediscovered friendship. In February 2019 they find Gloria, and after a long and exhausting research, finally they find Federica to properly complete the band.

CATHARSIS RELEASE VIDEO FOR "YOUR TRUTH"

Polish deathmetallers from Catharsis have released the first music video from their latest album Human Failures released mid 2021 via Mad Lion Records. The aesthetics of the video reflects the band's fascinations with old black & white horror movies and was shot in the original ruins of the mausoleum nearby the palace in Sławików (Poland).

VAINA RELEASE "FUTUE TE IPSUM" EP

Finnish black metal act VAINA is pleased to announce their upcoming new album "Futue Te Ipsum", due out March 4th 2022 via Aesthetic Death.

"Spiritual transcendental art, karma for the dark subconscious"

Impossible without just listening, but perhaps the best way to try to understand the "Futue Te Ipsum" album, is to travel back a few years...

After VAINA's debut album ("Viisikärki") was released in 2017, the band were invited to undertake a small tour. However, not being entertainers and without any real desire or need to perform they agreed only to doing one gig, which happened to be their first.

Being held the day before Hexennacht and at an unknown anonymous space. It transpired that the so-called venue was a rathole only fit for demolition. The general atmosphere was uncompromising and schizophrenic.... hectic but phlegmatic, communal but unwelcoming. It happened that the music was supposed to be summoned in a small desolate room, containing almost nothing. Hard to tell, at times, if the invitation was really for a fist fight or to play music? Perhaps both.

To mix things up further, instead of replicating the new album – "Viisikärki" – as was expected, we had prepared a set of unrehearsed noise. The strategy was a rough concept and a loose framework to build upon, everything else was totally improvised.

Being properly wasted before the start of the gig, then as things started the bass guitar plug and pedal broke. It was not going to plan. Subsequently, throughout most of the set the bass was being played lay on the "stage"... and once the set concluded the bass was continuously smashed into the floor and walls, in an attempt to get some fitting sound out of it. Even though the bass performance was fairly bittersweet, other parts met with more success. Crude, echoing and space-like guitars blended in with the furious shrieks of our vocalist – it was a triumph of accepting a challenge, overcoming adversity and with the end-result not being as totally fucked up as it might.

Reactions from the audience were diverse. Some really liked the performance (unsure about the music) whilst others totally hated it. The most rewarding feedback was from witnesses (not normally into this kind of music) who felt our show was transcendental, as though they had experienced being transported to some other place or form. Whilst playing the set we had experienced the same. It had become a spiritual experience.

On that night, the mindset and approach for a purposeful and challenging new direction was set for VAINA. There could be no return. It was imperative to continue to follow our intuition, to explore and go further down these unpolluted and unchartered paths.

"Futue Te Ipsum" - shares a similar dystopian vision and atmosphere to what was experienced at that gig. It's pioneering, nihilistic, dualistic, variable, spiritual, uncompromising, controversial...

...untrendy black metal,

like black metal was originally,

and like it should always be.

SHIELD OF WINGS will begin the year of 2022 with their Epic Symphonic Metal resurrection, and their debut full-length album, Unfinished.

The number 11 has many conflicting meanings in numerology; order, chaos, balance or extravagance, it depends which tradition you consult. But for SHIELD OF WINGS, 11 years adds weight to their return to life after their sweepingly vast EP, 2011's Solarium.

Sure to appeal to fans of symphonic metal giants NIGHTWISH and EPICA, as well as film score composers like HANS ZIMMER, JAMES HORNER, and HOWARD SHORE, their new album, Unfinished, will bring into view 10 bombastic compositions of poetic exploration.

Each song from Unfinished explores themes of growth through self-examination, regret, sacrificial death and rebirth. From the "Crushing Hail" of the suffering which is inherent in life, the listener is carried through this journey, until the final track expounds upon the realization that we are all, in ways, "The Scarred Clay Reshaping."
