The putrid Barbarian Swords are celebrating. Their first demo Crusaders Of The Apocalypse is ten years old, and they had to re-release it in a big way. Thus, the labels Negra Nit and Negre planY are editing Crusaders Of The Apocalypse – The Return, a double CD in digipack format containing that infectious recording, plus six unreleased tracks recorded at their rehearsal room, plus a show from 2014 at the now defunct Rocksound venue in Barcelona, also never before released.

It is worth noting the insufferable rawness of these songs, the atrocious and vile sound they present, and the violence with which they are executed, which has required a ‘cleaning’ and mastering by Javi Félez at Moontower Studios before releasing it. The amount of feedback and basses gathered here could literally damage the speakers of anyone enduring these almost two hours of hate, nihilism, excess, and putrefaction.

An artwork and layout by Woodcvtter Illustration, which is a re-reading of the original cover, tops off a luxurious artifact created especially for the loyal soldiers of this execrable Catalan band, which even features the first instrumental track they have ever perpetrated, or ‘Untitled II’, in which Von Päx lends the mic to the devastating gutturals of bassist Panzer!

These black doom maniacs are currently finalizing their next discographic steps, but they wouldn’t miss the opportunity to tarnish their curriculum even more with Crusaders Of The Apocalypse – The Return, a treacherous misdeed that shows us Barbarian Swords in their natural state: ripped, basic, noisy, noxious, and quarrelsome.

The living legend of Spanish Death Metal, UNBOUNDED TERROR, has just released the 1st advance single of what will be their 3rd full-length album entitled "Echoes of Despair", as well as revealed the album cover art and track listing, which will be released on September 6th through Xtreem Music, in CD, 12"LP, Cassette and Digital formats.

UNBOUNDED TERROR have just finished recording what will be their 3rd full-length album "Echoes of Despair" which marks the follow-up to their 2nd comeback album "Faith in Chaos" released in January 2020, and followed by the CD "Infernal Judgment" from January 2021 where they featured a new song, four re-recordings of songs from their 1st album from '92 "Nest of Affliction" and several live songs. WHERE THE DEVIL – ‘BURY YOUR DEMONS’ EP

Newcastle’s Where the Devil announces the release of its EP, ‘Bury Your Demons’. The EP represents a physical CD release and contains the band’s first six singles to date.

‘Bury Your Demons’ is a neat book-end to the band’s first chapter. Guitarist Ben Hosking says, “Like many new bands, we’ve been through some changes since we first hit the scene. I’ve been the primary songwriter in that time with five of the six singles handled primarily by me, musically speaking - and these tracks capture that period in time. We’ve now got Remi and Hamish in the band, both of whom can write killer riffage. So, the next chapter of Where the Devil may be quite different, sonically …or maybe not. We don’t know yet. But that’s exciting.”

The Hunter Valley five-piece has, like many new bands, had to find their place and build an audience within the Aussie metal scene online during the two years of COVID-19 lockdowns and venue restrictions. However, with six solid releases under its belt, the band has impressed all those who have heard their amalgamation of ‘90s and ‘00s influences. All six singles have garnered radio play on numerous stations and channels, including Andrew Haug, The Faction, Triple J and Triple M. Their three music videos have racked up thousands of views and the band has almost 30k streams on Spotify alone.

Finally able to start making their mark on the live circuit, the band recently landed a spot as one of just seven bands competing to reach the finals of the Wacken Metal Battle – short-listed from over 100 entries. They also supported Victorian hardcore crew Nicolas Cage Fighter and local heroes Lycanthrope when they laid waste to Crowbar Sydney over the Easter long weekend.

Where the Devil will officially launch the EP at The Hamilton Station Hotel on May 27, playing once again with the …Cage Fighter guys, as well as Vilify and Hatescape. “It’s going to be a killer show! Nicolas Cage Fighter are a formidable live band. We played with them in Sydney back in late March. They’re going to crush the Hamo. With the Vilify crew and our mates in Hatescape all sharing the bill, the venue isn’t going to know what hit it and that makes it the perfect place to launch the CD,” Hosking says.

Kazakh thrashers ZARRAZA will release their three-track EP, Kreated In Blood on July 8th. The EP brings a fresh take on three classic metal anthems, staying true to the spirit of thrash, while weaving in the ancient Turkic instrument; the kyl-kobyz. 

The band says:

“Kreated In Blood is a dream come true. Now we got our own versions of our fave songs but infused with Kazakh ethnic. We not only destroyed these classics with our performance but asked friends to help us and bring some special flavor to the final result. I assure you there is no version of “Raining Blood” like ours! Even if you don't like it – I bet you never heard anything like that!”

Hailing from Kazakhstan, ZARRAZA are no strangers to breaking down boundaries. Despite facing scepticism in their early days, they have forged a crowd of loyal fans - both in their home country and overseas - clawing their way from obscurity to opening for the likes of ROTTING CHRIST, SEPULTURA, and TYR. Their debut LP, Necroshiva, left reviewers speechless (Metal Sucks), and earned them an 8/10 from Metal Hammer. The band has been praised for being “one of hardest working metal bands in Central Asia” (The Headbanging Moose). As proud trailblazers in the Kazakh metal scene, it is only then natural for ZARRAZA to approach these covers in Kreated in Blood by combining their unique blend of thrash, death, and groove metal with the distinctive sound of the kyl-kobyz; a centuries-old Turkic instrument.

The Texas metal outfit is ready to make a huge and much overdue comeback.

Lockjaw is a band based in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. he Fear. From the depth and energy of alternative rock down the impactful edge of heavy metal, there are no rules. The group has a rather long history, fueled by the friendship of the band members, who got together to form this band while in high school in the late 90s. The music scene was quite different back then, but just like today, Lockjaw was never interested in chasing trends. These talented musicians had the vision to make their own music and truly give it their all. Lockjaw started making music in 1998, and it didn’t take long for the group to be able to record and release a handful of EPs throughout the local scene. The band’s music earned a solid reputation, and Lockjaw soon grew to the ranks of excellent local bands, on stage and in the studio. 

The group is on the verge of making their return with some brand new music! The band hit the studio with famed producer Chris Collier, already well-known for his work with seminal bands such as Korn, as well as Lynch Mob, Prong, and KMX, only to mention a few. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that these songs depict the band at its best. Instead of releasing a whole record at once, Lockjaw is set to be releasing a handful of singles throughout the years, allowing their releases to seamlessly spread over time and giving the audience a nice constant stream of content.

If you are a fan of artists such as Metallica, Lamb Of God, Amon Amarth, Opeth, and Machine Head, and Slipknot, this one is definitely going to be right up your alley. Production-wise, the band’s new music is just as exciting and crisp as you might expect from such high standards of recording and production.

An often recited complaint when it comes to technical death metal is that it's not catchy and lacks hooks. Although it is but one sub-style of the genre, melodic death metal fused with tech-death continues to grow and flourish stylistically for good reason. It's accessible, still over-the-top, brutal, yet retains a streamlined take on extreme death metal beloved by many and pioneered by groups such as Arsis and The Black Dahlia Murder.

North Carolina duo The Atrophic is a new group that formed in 2021, one which is eager to prove their mettle as an upcoming act centered around this style of complex melodic death metal. Joined by world-renowned drummer Robin Stone (Ashen Horde, Norse, ex-live for Augury, etc.) on session drums. Together the duo which consists of vocalist Sean Irizarry and guitarist/bassist Kyle Kuffermann along with help from session drummer Robin Stone are set to drop their exciting four-song-EP, Coagulating Mirth on July 8th. Recording for Coagulating Mirth was handled by the band at their respective home studios and the release was produced, mixed, and mastered by Hannes Grossmann (Alkaloid, Blotted Science, ex-Hate Eternal, ex- Obscura, etc.) at Mordor Sounds Studio in Nuremberg, Germany. The eye-popping cover art for Coagulating Mirth was created by well-known artist Vladimir Chebakov known for his work with bands such as Hideous Divinity, Corpsessed, 1914, Katalepsy, and many more. 

Coagulating Mirth is a brutal, heavy, memorable, and ominous work of art. Everything that death metal fans crave. This is the work of a new band, yet sounds like the highly developed output of a project with numerous releases under their belt. About CARRION VAEL:

Hailing from Richmond Indiana, CARRION VAEL are a brutal force heavily influenced by Technical, Melodic and traditional Death Metal. They take things to their own level by incorporating aspects of slam and old school death with razor cut precision making them stand out amongst the run of the mill Midwestern bands in the USA.

This talented 5-piece group is led by the brainchild of Travis Lawson Purcell (vocals), who along with Alex Arford (bass), Trent Limburg (guitar), Chris Smiley (drums), and Ryan Kuder (guitar) draw influences lyrically from famous serial killers and mass murders in history, while also writing and performing carefully crafted melodic Death and Thrash.

DAIDALOS RELEASE "THE EXPEDITION"

From Extreme Metal Music comes the release of German one-man symphonic dark metal band Daidalos founded in 2020 by drummer/pianist Tobias Püschner (former drummer of the technical thrash band Revolt) and the debut album "The Expedition" due out July 29th.

Recommended for fans of Dimmu Borgir, Wintersun, and Fleshgod Apocalypse. 

The album was inspired after reading a book on Captain Sir John Franklin's Lost Expedition, a British voyage of Arctic exploration that departed with 129 men from England in 1845. Both ships, called Erebus & Terror, became icebound and after being trapped and suffering in eternal coldness for over a year, the remaining sailors decided to abandon their ships. Trying to survive, they set out for the Canadian mainland, but disappeared. 

"The Expedition" is a musical journey through the Arctic Ice, on board with Sir John Franklin's crew. The different moods the sailors had to experience at that time probably went from heroic and enthusiastic to absolute hopelessness and daily mortal fear. I composed these atmospheres musically and told them as a concept album / musical story." says Püschner. 

"The Expedition" contains nine songs and has a total playtime of 47 minutes plus a bonus track.

Daidalos' concept can be described as a full orchestral and dark emotional cinematic journey combined with aggressive vocals and harsh guitars. Most of the songs recorded on the upcoming full-length contain clean choir vocals and fast-paced drumming along with each song being written exclusively on the piano first. The idea behind this way of songwriting is to first finish each track's own atmosphere with orchestral music and then use those emotions to create the harder parts.

For the recording of "The Expedition", Püschner recruited guest musicians and friends Martin Simon (Kambrium) (bass/backing vocals), Fabio Rossi (Tryglav) (lead guitar), Francesco Petrelli (guitar), Noga Rotem (choir vocals) who will also support Daidalos on live shows.

"The Expedition" is due out on July 29th, 2022, and is recommended for fans of Dimmu Borgir, Wintersun, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.
