‘SUN GOD‘, the debut release from prog death metallers PARACRONA, is an abrasive and dark album but one with a fresh perspective on death metal. The dark and blackened music is straightforward in its desire to fry the senses but unpredictable in the approach it takes; each song offers something different, adding up to a twisted but worthwhile journey. The album has been brought to life mixing and mastering by the legendary Fredrik Nordstrom, who produced albums from the original Gothenburg death metal scene, among many, many others!
PARACRONA was formed by Ringo Christiaan Van Droffelaar and Oystein Hansen, from the Netherlands and Norway, respectively. After meeting at the 2007 edition of Wacken Open Air, the two formed a musical bond and began recording ‘SUN GOD’ IN 2016. After many delays, including the pandemic and Ringo’s battle with cancer, lead to the album being released this year.
‘Sun God,’ explores themes of ancient, old belief systems with the idea that the ‘Sun God,’ is within you. Fighting against the powers of greed, ego, pseudo science and misinformation, the album is about breaking free from these dark, even Satanic, forces and finding the strength within oneself.

NUCLEAR WINTER is gearing up to unveil the new album Seagrave on July 21st. Fusing thundering heavy rhythms with haunting choirs and dynamic electronic textures, the new offering unleashes a powerful wall of sound.

Seagrave is a voyage through darkening realms, carrying a sombre mood across the album. Opening with "The Glimmering Landscape", this track is about leaving a hopeless place, but will the new place be any better? "Starward Longing" explores how things in life don’t work out as one had hoped while "Fates Mysteries" focuses on the frustrations of trying to achieve something but bad luck keeps getting in the way. The following track "Thy Shadows Fall" shows how trying times can eventually wear a person down and "The Grave is Wide" uses imagery of an ocean storm that represents difficult and trying times in life. "The Dusk and the Song" sees a shift in the mood, with a contradictory notion of feeling a sense of peace surrounded by a dark desolate place. Nostalgia over an old memory is the meaning behind the penultimate "Pale Memories", before the concluding "Black Waters" ends on the dark news of a loved one being lost at sea.

Hailing from Zimbabwe, Gary Stautmeister began NUCLEAR WINTER in 2013 and released their debut EP The Void in the same year. The melodic/industrial death metal project takes inspiration from an array of bands including the likes of FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, WINTERSUN, RAMMSTEIN and LORNA SHORE, to name a few. Just in time for the release of their highly anticipated upcoming album, The Poison Chalice, Dutch death thrashers LEGION OF THE DAMNED unleash their third brutally infectious single, “Contamination”, together with a hauntingly oppressive official music video, produced by frontman Maurice Swinkels himself! The new full-length, The Poison Chalice, drops today, June 9, 2023 via Napalm Records.
“Contamination” takes no prisoners – the track attacks mercilessly and kills everything in its path. With this release, the band once again proves that they are at the top of the scene. As shown during the live premiere of the song at Rock Hard festival, fans can look forward to their furious sets at the biggest metal festivals this summer, such as Wacken, Summer Breeze and Graspop.
LEGION OF THE DAMNED on “Contamination”:
“Contamination deals with the appearance of a new plague, a manifestation of one of the horsemen of the apocalypse. A rapidly spreading, horribly lethal disease causes dilemmas and ruthless restrictions. Mass death occurs and societies collapse, deprived from their commodities. The title for this song was already floating around for previous albums, but never made it, so it was not directly inspired by the Corona pandemic. It is fair to assume more and perhaps more gruesome plagues will come and cause havoc on mankind. Remember the mass death during the ages of the black plague.”
Founded in 1990 as Occult, the thrash machine around founding members Maurice Swinkels and Erik Fleuren was reborn as LEGION OF THE DAMNED in 2005. Conquering the European charts for decades, the LEGION crowned itself at #17 in the Official German Album Charts with predecessor Slaves Of The Shadow Realms (2019). For almost 35 years, they have formed their aggressive signature sound from the most horrific ingredients of thrash and death metal, combined with brutal blackened influences, resulting in one of the most defined and unique sounds in the scene. On The Poison Chalice, the band unites with Fabian Verweij as second guitarist beside Twan van Geel, and conquers hell together with bassist Harold Gielen.

The Poison Chalice comes to life by spreading its eerily beautiful wings within the first few seconds, then dives headfirst into a hellishly furious storm. In classic LEGION OF THE DAMNED manner, there is no escape as the track relentlessly drives into the abyss.
The album spreads brutal and ice-cold thrash soundscapes through relentless, attacking drums and incredible guitar harmonies from both lead guitarists, underlined by angry bass lines. Infectious thrash treasures such as “Progressive Destructor”, and the almost seven-minute berserk “Behold The Beyond” break necks with hammering guitar riffs and bloody double bass infernos. “Beheading of The Godhead” delivers what the song title promises, before the past 48 minutes of hate closes with a final deep gulp from “The Poison Chalice” - leaving no one behind.
Together with producer Erwin Hermsen, the band closed the gates of the underworld in Toneshed Studio and demonstrate that they remain the unchallenged masters of brute and unrelenting death-thrash metal in 2023!
Karpathian Relict from Poland & Ukraine is revealing the details of it’s third studio work ! Album title is Never Be After and includes eight tracks of high level and complex technical death metal. "This album was long in the making for us. It was written during a time of extreme uncertainties. First we were down a guitar player and shortly after we began the writing process, Covid hit and the world shut down.
We had about half the album done by then but the rest of the process proved difficult with just Eric and Jeff meeting up and sneaking into the practice space whenever possible. On top of this, in the middle of the pandemic, Jeff and Eric’s apartment burned down in June.
However, this only made us more determined than ever with nothing to look forward to other than finishing this record. It really was our only outlet and escape from the collapsing world around us. As one Tom Maher pointed out “no great art ever came from a place of comfort” and we hope that shows through on ‘The Weight of Being’. Laced with razor sharp riffs and a shower of blast beats. Kevin Bernstein was at the helm We’re relieved it’s finally finished and happy to share with everyone what we’ve been working on."
Since their inception, the band has done a few U.S. tours, played numerous fests, completed a European Tour and shared the stage with the likes of Noisem, Birdflesh, Rotten Sound, Wormrot, Gadget, Primitive Man, Exhumed and many others.
The band has also continued to craft their sound through various releases over the years, including a debut full album, a split w/ Birdflesh and a 3-way split.
