Suffer will release Grand Canvas of the Aesthete on CD, vinyl, and digital formats on March 29 via Wise Blood Records.

Back in 1989, Suffer formed at the dawn of death metal’s Midwestern rise. Teenagers at the time, they were one of the first extreme metal bands in South Dakota. In December, they closed 2023 with their first new music in eight years. Mere months later, they chase their Gristle, Bruised Spots & Trimmed Fat EP with a brutal and brilliant comeback record, Grand Canvas of the Aesthete.

“This new material is absolute proof that you don't have to “age out” of Death Metal,” comments vocalist/guitarist C.R. Petit. “Suffer was formed in 1989, and 2024 will mark 35 years for us. There is no doubt that this album is the absolute best material we have done together.”

“This is the first Suffer material that was not written by hashing things out in a rehearsal room as a group,” Petit adds. “There was far more scrutiny in riff, structure and transition as well as lyrics and production. We didn't settle for what was close. We all wanted this to surpass everything we have done in the past.”

Suffer’s collision of elevated gore and old school brutality will appeal to fans of Carcass, Asphyx, Exhumed, and Undeath. C.R. Petit and bassist Jason Ellsworth are also both members of Angerot (Redefining Darkness Records) as well as Empty Throne (Wise Blood Records). After releasing outstanding music from both of those bands the last few years, new music from Suffer was hopeful, but never guaranteed.

“To be honest, I really didn't think we would [release another album],” Petit admits. “Most of us have moved on with other bands and projects, family and careers. But, there is something incredibly special to each of us when it comes to Suffer. Something that makes it nearly impossible to just walk away from.”

“Initially, it was preconceived that this was the swan song,” Petit reveals. “We wanted to have one last chance to make a Suffer album that sounded the way every Suffer recording should have sounded. But, this entire process has been absolutely fantastic and I am not sure that we could simply walk away. I am pretty sure that we all have more Suffer in the tank.”

BIOGRAPHY:

Northern Genocide was established in 2010 in Helsinki, Finland. It all started with a meeting of old high school friends, guitar player Pyry Pohjanpalo and producer Rainer Pekkinen, after Pyry had discovered Rainer's interest in programming and computer music. They both had a history of playing in various metal bands, but now they wanted to try something different by bringing electronic influences to metal. The very same year they started recording demos in their home studio.

In 2012 a crew was put together for gigs and new demos. In december 2013 the band began recording a new 3-track demo. After some changes to the initial line-up of the band, the demo was recorded with Markku Tuuri in drums, Toni Jokiranta in bass, Pyry in guitars and Tommi Salonen as vocalist. The demo "Atlantis" was finished in October 2014. Shortly after work began towards a 5-track EP ”Planet Asylum” which was released in 2015.

2019 the debut album "Genesis vol. 666" was released through Inverse Records. The release was a success, and the only song written in Finnish, called Ikiruoste, proved to be a guiding star of the album. The style of NG's music had already started to evolve away from the industrial metal influenced sound towards more modern melodic metal. Genesis, Vol. 666 album recently reached 1 Million streams on Spotify.

In 2020 began the work towards releasing another full length album. During the long cold winter a few band members moved aside, resulting in Jussi Pulliainen taking the 2nd guitar role and Arto Viitanen picking up the bass guitar. An epic discovery was Leo Korhonen to play the drums. With just 1 month of practice he mastered his parts ready to be recorded for the album.

The new album ”The Point of No Return” was finally finished in the summer of 2023. The process of making the new album was long but it surely paid off. This time no compromises were accepted in the production process and the album surely presents the best of NG to date. The new ideas and the combined effort of the whole band resulted in a solid, banging and rich album. The album picks up where ”Genesis vol. 666” left off featuring even more aggressive guitar riffs and massive orchestrations. The contribution from various featuring vocalists (Stephanie Mazor, Tommy Tuovinen) and instrumentalists adds depth to the songs throughout the album. Lyrics written by Tommi criticize world overpopulation, corruption, abuse of power and describe the dark side of the human mind.

Tempestuous Demise is the third installment from instrumental metal project, Cryptic Confinement. Following a similar writing formula as the previous two releases, the album will be characterised by intricate layers of guitars, relentless blast beats, carefully timed tempo changes and an adept focus on song arrangement.

Like the previous two releases, the album will borrow notes from several different sub genres of metal. Cryptic Confinement's main songwriter Zakk Weathersby, derives inspiration from countless musicians worldwide and thus finds it difficult to focus his songwriting on one sub genre. Having said all that, a few minor tweaks been made to keep the project's music from becoming redundant.

Listeners can expect to hear collaborations with notable musicians such as Rich Gray and Fabio Allesandrini of the Canadian thrash metal group Annihilator. Also performing on the album is Ukrainian black metal legend Lycane Graven of the bands Colotyphus and Pagan Land. Listeners can also expect some changes in production format that will exhibit Cryptic Confinement’s sound in a much more audacious and cataclysmic form.
