Ten years after its initial release and in honored celebration of the band’s fifteenth anniversary of existence, Boris Records is proud to announce today's exclusive vinyl reissue of Ectovoid’s long out of print sophomore full-length album, Dark Abstraction. The band’s most recent full length recording and tragically the last to feature the band’s late founding guitarist Michael Stewart, Dark Abstraction, was originally released in 2015 on CD by Polish label Hellthrasher Productions and LP by Swedish label Blood Harvest Records. A massive step forward in every way from the outfit’s well regarded if unpolished debut album, Dark Abstraction represented an energetic, riff-focused, and creative spin on the cavernous blackened death metal sound that was flooding the scene in copious amounts in the mid-2010’s. With eight varied and memorable tracks, a greatly improved production, and an ever-advancing sense of expression and craftsmanship from all instruments, this was the sound of a young band stepping out of their formative beginnings and emerging confidently as the established and respected outfit they are known as today.

Boris Records is excited to bring this under-appreciated work of death metal darkness back to the public consciousness - Ectovoid’s exhumation from the forgotten graves is long overdue.

“Musically, ‘Godspeed Filthy Warrior’ is one of the most straight-ahead tracks on the EP, following a verse–chorus–verse structure at a steady 180bpm. The chorus blends double bass drumming with blast beats under a surprisingly melodic guitar riff, leaning toward a more modern or melodic death metal sound. That contrast — the violence in the drums and the melody in the guitars — mirrors the clash between rage and twisted self-reflection in the story. The outro is one of my favorite moments on the record: the antihero’s voice shifts to an almost theatrical monologue, justifying his actions through a storm of conflicting emotions.”

BIOGRAPHY:

Wounded In Forest is a death metal band from Oulu, Finland, born from tragedy and reborn with a sharpened edge. Formed in 2023 following the death of the drummer from a previous project that had lasted over 15 years, the surviving members regrouped with a stripped-down, more direct musical vision. Every member took on a new role or instrument to forge something raw and uncompromising — an outlet for grief, rage, and reflection.

Musically rooted in old school death metal, Wounded in Forest blends the primal ferocity of early ’90s death metal with a conceptual storytelling approach. Their lyrics, written in English, revolve around one fictional narrative per release, each grounded in a real event or period from Finnish history. Themes of violence, war, trauma, and moral decay are explored with unflinching intensity.

The band’s upcoming debut EP, Antihuman Artist, is set during the Great Wrath in the early 1700s — a time of Russian occupation and widespread atrocities in Finland. The EP tells the disturbing story of an individual shaped by violence — born into abuse, sent to war, and ultimately transformed into a serial killer who expresses himself by creating grotesque art from the remains of his victims.

Wounded in Forest’s dual-vocalist setup deepens their storytelling Joni Moisanen delivers classic low-end death metal growls, while Miikka Pyykkönen unleashes high-pitched shrieks more akin to black metal. This contrast creates a dynamic narrative texture, with each voice representing different facets of the characters and their descent into darkness.

Musically, the band combines relentless blast beats, simple but sinister riffing, and shifting rhythmic patterns that keep listeners on edge. Guitarists Joni Moisanen and Joonas Kokkoniemi mix chugging riffs, open-picked chords, and black metal-style tremolo passages with the occasional technical flourish. Drummer Jussi Tuomisto drives the chaos with aggressive blasts and constantly evolving grooves that mirror the tension in each story.

For fans of old school Death Metal with a conceptual twist, Wounded In Forest offers stories carved from something raw and real. These are stories steeped in blood, rooted in Finnish soil, and delivered straight from the heart of the forest.

Born in the shadows of a slanted farmhouse outside Vancouver, SYRINX is a heavy metal/progressive rock collective led by guitarist, producer, Graham McGee. Known for their theatrical flair and cerebral songwriting, the band delivers a fresh and unique blend of oldschool heavymetal and classic prog wizardry — echoing the likes of Rush, Genesis, Fates Warning, Queensrÿche, and Judas Priest.

SYRINX began over a decade ago when McGee met powerhouse vocalist Jean-Pierre Abboud (JP) during a wild 30-date Canadian tour with their former band Funeral Circle. When that group folded, the two set their sights on a more expansive sonic path — moving away from gothic and occult themes into deeper, more musically daring territory. From this shift, SYRINX emerged. After their first two releases in 2019 and 2020, SYRINX went dormant as McGee battled a severe case of Lyme disease, stepping away from music entirely. But the silence didn't last. Returning with renewed fire, McGee unexpectedly linked up with drummer Seth Lyon—whose precision, creativity, and shared love of odd time signatures (and black coffee... and Rush) sparked an instant chemistry. In the foothills of the Pacific West Coast mountains, SYRINX breathed again.

Their upcoming sophomore LP Time Out of Place was nearly derailed just weeks before recording when their bassist unexpectedly left the band. But rather than crumble, the band saw it as an opportunity. Enter Bobby Shock — a multi-instrumentalist from New Jersey who slid effortlessly into the SYRINX groove and smashed it out of the park on incredibly short notice. A fully aligned creative energy, Bobby is SYRINX in every way — and his presence elevated the album to a whole new level.

The band’s lineup now includes Graham McGee (guitar/synths), JP (vocals), Seth Lyon (drums), and Bobby Shock (bass/synth), with supporting vocals from Lady Chanelle, McGee’s wife a gifted vocalist whose harmonies add dimension and grace to the band's already diverse sound. McGee and Shock also both wield Moog Taurus pedals and synths live, giving the band a crushing live presence rarely matched on modern stages!

Despite being spread across Vancouver, Denver, and New Jersey, the members work with focused intensity whenever they’re physically together.

Overview: OMICIDIO are the first incarnation of what would later become NIHILI LOCUS. It's 1989 and four very young musicians approach Metal and do it in an instinctive and violent way at the same time with a demo-tape of six songs that presents a very old-school Death Thrash Metal but that is already characterized by the dark magic that will be the trademark of the sound of NIHILI LOCUS.

Together with the new album "Semper", we will release the reissue of 1991 OMICIDIO demo-tape "Premature Exequie" on LP format.

The release has been completely re-mastered by Giuseppe "Buzz" Nicolò at Lost Soul Studio and feature a great cover created by the great Norwegian photographer Kjetil Karlsen. "Premature Exequie" is the definitive testimony of a primitive and obscure sound that has been able to create from these roots, the absolutely unique and uncompromising sound of NIHILI LOCUS.

NIHILI LOCUS, a name, a cult, the history of Italian Extreme Music.

NIHILI LOCUS, a name Doom and Black Metal fans are no strangers to.

They came from Turin area and were born from the band OMICIDIO, formed in 1989, with Massimo Currò (bs), Mauro Veronese (gt), Bruno Blasi (v) and Roberto Ripollino (dr). After the recordings of the demo "Premature Exequie" in 1991, the band change their name in NIHILI LOCUS and in 1992 Valeria De Benedictis (gt) joined the group who released quite soon the 7"EP "Sub Hyerosolima..." distributed by Obscure Plasma. In 1994 they released the concept tape "...Advesperascit..." which led them to have their first official contract with Boundless Recs, for the release of the MCD "...Ad Nihilum Recidunt Omnia" in 1996.

In the years to come the group's activity was very unstable, until 2009 when they found themselves in an essential formation with the original members Massimo Currò (bs), Mauro Veronese (gt), and Roberto Ripollino (dr). With this line-up, it was recorded "Mors" only available for free download online. In the following years, Terror From Hell released a collection of all the recordings up to 1996 on CD.

The last years was used by the band to the conception, creation and recordings of the new album "Semper", the release that will finally allow the band to reap the fruits of a career always characterized by a melancholic pathos embodied in a dark sonorous extremism.

"Semper", along with the reissue "Nihil Morte Certium" on vinyl, the reissue of OMICIDIO demo "Premature Exequie" on vinyl and the celebratory box "Ineffabilis Memoriae Regurgitatio", are scheduled for September 2025, all on My Kingdom Music

Born Divided is a melodic death metal band hailing from Québec, Canada.
