Under the banner Absentia in the Church, Splendidula will unveil their new album Absentia on Saturday, April 18, at GC Het Marca in Maarkedal, Belgium. The former Saint Eligius Church, well known for hosting the Church of Doom events, offers an unmistakably fitting setting for the band’s emotionally charged music and dark melancholy.

Thy Light is invited as special guest to headline the event. The Brazilian masters of depressive black metal are internationally acclaimed for their raw emotional intensity and atmospheric depth. They will be accompanied by Danish atmospheric black metal band Sunken, ambient/drone project Ashtoreth, and doom/death metal band My Lament.

Splendidula is an atmospheric black doom metal band from Belgium, active since 2008. Over the years, three full-length albums have been released: Splendidula, Post Mortem and Somnus, shaping a sound defined by crushing riffs, layered vocals and dense melancholy. In 2022, the sudden loss of bassist Peter Chromiak left a profound impact, leading to a lineup rebuild and a shift toward even more emotionally charged music. Rising from decades of West Coast metal lineage, Vancouver, BC's Gravemass erupts today with the release of their highly anticipated debut album, "This Is The Way." Formed by veterans of some of Vancouver’s most ferocious and influential metal outfits, Gravemass arrives fully armed, fully realized, and fully committed to sonic destruction.

​Featuring members from Zimmers Hole, Punch Drunk, 3 Inches of Blood, Revocation, Just Cause, West of Hell, Savannah, Process, Subversion, and The Golers, Gravemass is less a new band and more a convergence of long‑standing forces. Their collective experience, over 30 years in the Vancouver metal trenches, has forged a sound that is unapologetically brutal, relentlessly fast, and steeped in darkness.

​According to guitarist Mayan Hate, who wrote the music for the debut album over a concentrated two‑month period, the project came together naturally among longtime friends.

​​“We’re all West Coast metal heads who’ve known each other for decades. I wrote the music between breaks in other projects and showed it to Lorde Heathen. He immediately wanted in. From there, we recruited the rest of the band, guys we’ve all known forever,” adds guitarist Mayan Hate.

When asked to describe the band’s sound in five words, vocalist Lorde Heathen doesn’t hesitate:

“Brutal, angry, fast, dark, evil. If you like brutal… You will dig it,”

The album delivers exactly that. "This Is The Way" is a barrage of sinister riffing, death‑metal vocal ferocity, and an unrelenting rhythmic assault. It’s the culmination of decades of shared history and a unified desire to push extremity to its limits. Lyrical inspiration comes from the world’s current state of chaos.

“All the lyrics come from the shit‑hole world order that exists right now,” says Lorde Heathen.

​While the debut album’s music was written entirely by Mayan Hate with lyrics by Lorde Heathen, the band confirms that their second album is already in progress and will be a fully collaborative effort.

The band also recently confirmed they will perform at Loud As Hell Open Air Festival 2026, joining a stacked lineup featuring Fallujah, Allegaeon, Summoning the Lich, Crimson Shadows, Edge of Paradise, and more. Three years after the acclaimed album Andzjel, HEIDEN return with their tenth full-length release, Cma. The album is a direct continuation of the previous chapter, yet one that dives even deeper into darkness. Once again, HEIDEN’s music flows through the landscape of the Carpathian Mountains — not as a backdrop, but as an inner terrain where memory, guilt, and fear merge into a single current. Across nine tracks, Cma rises from silence and ashes, from images of remote mountain villages where time has come to a standstill, and from human stories in which borders no longer began in the land itself, but within people. Clean, hypnotic riffs and an urgent vocal delivery create a sense of inescapable tension — like a nocturnal flight through a landscape that no longer offers shelter.

Emerging from the black metal underground more than twenty years ago, HEIDEN have never allowed themselves to be confined by genre boundaries. Bass was tracked in Murky’s home studio, keys were recorded in Niche home studio & engineered by kverd, both during the same period. Band History:

Formed in 2003 by Kverd and Varnag, HEIDEN began as a pagan black metal project rooted in the Carpathians. The band has evolved while maintaining a dark, uncompromising core:

PROTRUSION are a death metal band from Lafayette, Indiana consisting of former and current members of underground acts such as Gorgasm, Sarcophagy, Human Filleted and Found Hanging. Inspired by classic Morrisound death metal recordings and other underground favorites of the early 90s, PROTRUSION have harvested a sound both new and familiar to fans of the more archaic and cryptic characteristics of early death metal.

In March 2023, PROTRUSION released a three track self-titled demo that was met with positive reception. They then went on to unleash carnage upon the attendees of many shows and festivals, including those such as the final Chicago Domination Fest in 2023 and Slam Dakota Death Fest in 2025. Vancouver’s ETERNIOS Summons the Northern Frost with New Single “Requiem for the North”

Sophomore Album Coming In 2026

Rising Blackened Symphonic Death Metal force Eternios return with their monumental new single “Requiem of the North,” the title track from their highly anticipated sophomore album due out in late 2026. The single marks the next evolution of the project originally founded by multi‑instrumentalist and composer Colin Ryley (Hyperia, Bayonet Dismemberment), who launched Eternios as a studio‑only creative outlet before expanding it into a full live band.

​Following the acclaimed 2025 debut “Mysterium,” praised for its fusion of aggressive black metal and sweeping orchestral arrangements, Eternios now sharpen their vision with a colder, more expansive sound rooted deeply in the landscapes that inspired it.

​​“Requiem for the North” is both a musical and emotional centerpiece for the upcoming album.

“This single and the album in general are my love letter to the northern wilderness of Canada. I’ve spent countless hours roaming the forests and mountains of Western Canada. That cold, melancholic silence you feel surrounded by snow and frost is something I wanted to channel directly into the music,” says Colin.

The track erupts with blast beats, tremolo‑picked harmonies, and sweeping orchestral layers before shifting into a massive, melodic chorus. A neo‑classical C‑section and a soaring dual‑guitar outro push the composition into cinematic territory, blending extreme aggression with haunting beauty.

​Colin describes Eternios’ sonic identity in five words: Melodic, Aggressive, Melancholic, Intricate, Fast.

​​“Requiem for the North” embodies all of these traits while offering a polished and expanded version of the sound established on Mysterium. With the transition toward live performance, vocalist Marlee Ryley (Hyperia) now fronts the band, allowing Colin to focus fully on guitar and orchestrations.

​​“I’m very proud of how the single turned out. I think it’s a great representation of what’s coming on the full‑length. I hope fans of extreme black metal and extreme melodic metal both find something to connect with,” adds Colin.

The single’s artwork, created by renowned artist Mike Hrubovcak (Visual Darkness), is a chilling preview of the full album’s visual world.

​​“It’s very winter‑heavy. Icy blues, whites, and music notation swirling out of a polar blizzard. Mike’s work with Imperial Crystalline Entombment is some of my favourite black metal artwork ever, so collaborating with him was incredible,” says Colin.

​

​Eternios remains a deeply personal project at its core. Colin explains further.

“All the songs were written by me, usually locked away for hours piecing together structures and symphonic arrangements until I’m satisfied. The music almost always comes first. The lyrics are shaped by the imagery the music creates.”

​​While the debut album was entirely written, performed, and produced by Colin Ryley, the new era of Eternios will see more collaboration as the full lineup solidifies. “Requiem for the North,” the album, will feature nine original tracks and one cover, delivering a sweeping journey through frostbitten atmospheres, melodic aggression, and symphonic grandeur. The album is expected in Spring 2026, with more singles to follow.

​​“This album contains all the darkness, harmony, and aggression that define Eternios. The songs have been flowing naturally, and I expect many more albums to come,” adds Colin.

Toronto, Ontario-based progressive death metal quartet GUTVOID presents “Umbriel’s Door,” the second preview song preceding their second LP, Liminal Shrines, nearing March release on Profound Lore Records.

GUTVOID was formed by guitarist Daniel Bonofiglio and guitarist/vocalist Brendan Dean, followed shortly thereafter by bassist Justin Boehm and drummer D. W. Lee. Blending modern death and doom soundscapes with progressive rock and metal songwriting foundations, GUTVOID creates a monster seething with gut-wrenching riffs, cavernous vocals, and prog virtuosity. With the release of the Astral Bestiary EP in 2019, the debut album Durance Of Lightless Horizons in 2022, and the Breathing Obelisk EP in 2024, the band has continued to build on their sound, focusing on more elaborate yet intentional song structures while deepening the depth of their aggressiveness and technicality.

Now, GUTVOID delivers their incinerating second album, Liminal Shrines, which marks the first half of a two-part concept. Writhing with energy, the album showcases the band at their most intricate, aggressive, and creative thus far, further expanding and building on their cosmic horror infused atmospheres and origins through six immersive and devastating movements. Liminal Shrines was recorded at Boxcar Sound Recording, Mount Wexler Studio, and Dystonic Sounds, was mixed and mastered by Greg Dawson and BWC Studios, and features cover art by Kjell Åge Meland.

With the new track, guitarist/vocalist Brendan Dean reveals, “‘Umbriel’s Door’ is one of the heavier and more eclectic tracks on Liminal Shrines, with different riffs, feels, and moods evolving and winding their way throughout. The lyrics are about a group of scientists who awaken from hypersleep to make first contact with an alien artifact, and we wanted the song to capture that narrative progression—it begins abruptly, like an awakening from an alarm going off, and eventually ends in an eerie transformative manner.”

Italy’s URLUK will release their highly anticipated second full-length album, “Memories in Fade”, on April 10, 2026, via Pest Records. Following the atmospheric and introspective journey of their previous works, this new record marks a clear evolution in the band’s sound, embracing a more sinuous and emotionally driven approach.

“Memories in Fade” expands the band’s black-doom foundation with layers of ’90s alternative rock, ambient textures and neo-folk influences, creating a complex yet cohesive sonic narrative. Unlike conventional song structures, the album seeks a storytelling quality, where each track contributes to a broader, immersive experience while remaining grounded in the project’s artistic identity.

Throughout the album, clean vocals and intense screaming alternate, complementing a diverse palette of riffs that shift from melancholic and brooding to sharp and dynamic. The mood is consistently dark and enveloping, reflecting both personal introspection and the uncertainties of contemporary life. The result is a record that feels cinematic in scope, balancing heaviness and subtlety in equal measure.

Recorded with meticulous attention to atmosphere and texture, “Memories in Fade” represents URLUK’s ongoing exploration of emotional depth within extreme metal. The band continues to intertwine local identity, narrative sensibility, and musical experimentation, offering listeners a journey that is both intimate and expansive.

URLUK was formed in July 2020 in Lombardy, Italy. The band’s name refers to a nocturnal bird of prey native to the region, reflecting a strong connection to its territory, an element also expressed visually through booklet photographs taken by the members themselves. Their sound, defined as black doom melancholic metal, merges black metal and doom into a dark and melancholic sonic landscape.

The lineup has remained unchanged since the beginning: M. (screaming and clean vocals, drums; formerly in Black Oath 2006–2010) and U. (clean vocals, guitars, bass, and lyrics), ensuring a coherent and recognizable identity.

The debut EP, “Loss” (2022), released via Black Mass Prayer and later reissued by Depressive Illusion Records, explores the theme of loss as a condition of profound human vulnerability.

The first full-length album, “More” (2023), released by Remparts Productions, represents a natural evolution. Conceptually centered on melancholy as the enduring aftermath of loss, the album expands the band’s sound, from ’90s black metal and doom to ambient and subtle folk influences, while featuring guest contributions from Carlo Altobelli (Vision Deprived, Camposanto, ex-Moral Values), Giovanni (Mindful of Pripyat, Corporal Raid, Henoa), and Luxitan (ex-Gosforth).

Work on a new album began at the end of 2023. Conceived as a sonic journey through memory and dreamlike dimensions, the record blends ’90s alternative rock, ambient, hauntology, neo-folk, and black metal within a vision described as ALT B/L/A/C/K/. Recorded at Orion Recording Studios between 2025 and early 2026, and featuring Francesco Cucinotta (Felis Catus, Sinoath), the album marks a further step in the band’s ongoing artistic evolution.
