In his ravenous pursuit of the essence of wickedness he has incinerated even the cold ashes of his empathy and become a scientist, an artist, in his dedication to the instigation of absolute despair in others. He has meticulously aroused states of being in his subjects wherein the memory of mere pain becomes a dream, an unattainable nirvana. Darren Cesca, drummer with Goratory, Eschaton and previously Deeds Of Flesh, has returned with the second album from his unconscionably brutal solo project, Cytolysis. Surge Of Cruelty is constructed from eleven sonic acts of torture, where twisted technicality and methodical precision collide with frenzied explosions of fury and unnerving alien atmospheres. From the psychotic dissection of opening gambit, ‘Your Slow Demise’, the listener is led ever deeper into an inescapable labyrinth of terror. An arcane aura bleeds through the cracks between the devilish riffs of the title track, ‘Surge Of Cruelty’, while ‘A Blood Soaked Offering’, featuring a shockingly inhuman guest vocal performance from Brian Forgue (Syphilic etc), is relentless, merciless in its stabbing assault. Forgue is not the only guest vocalist, with throat ripping contributions also being made by Adam Mason of Goratory, Mac Smith of Apogean and Eschaton and Flo Butcher of Tortured and Vile infamy. Perhaps the most intense and scarring track though is delivered by Cesca alone; saved til last ‘Hung From The Rafters’ ensures that an indelible mark is left on the consciousness, a wound that will never heal, suppurating in the mind through every passing day.

Surge Of Cruelty was also mixed and mastered by Darren Cesca – a role he has fulfilled for the likes of In Asymmetry, Pillory and Goratory – and the overwhelming force, intricate riffs and deep, destructive bass tones have been captured perfectly. Adorned in the hypnotically horrifying artwork of Vladimir Cebakov (Six Feet Under, 1914, DeadHead etc), that taps directly into the vein of vicious indifference that pulses beneath the cold skin of Surge Of Cruelty, this second barbaric testament from Cytolysis will be unleashed by Comatose Music on August 8th. Prepare to be flattened by this shuddering juggernaut of torment!

Guitarist Jaakko Hautamäki comments: 

"Joni pondered the matter long and hard: Would anyone notice if he added some melody and triplets for Pepe? Pepe noticed the wrongdoing, but the new armchair was far too comfortable to get up from. Joni performed his secret rituals, pulled out the best lead section from his sleeve, and in his usual sadistic fashion, placed it only once at the end of the track. “It can’t only come once!” Everyone agreed – we were left yearning for a climax worthy of the end of the album. After hundreds of consultants were discussed with, nevertheless the solution was spontaneously invented in the studio: “Just throw in some double bass or something to make it last longer.” Tuomo could not believe his ears when he got the finished work on his desk. It was too soft and honeyed; it lacked coldness and mechanicalness completely. This was immediately corrected by adding icy echoes and scooped frequency curves. Niko approved the changes."

BIOGRAPHY:

In the beginning, Progeny of Sun was a two-man band formed by Jaakko Hautamäki and Niko Aromaa. Jaakko was responsible for the instrumentals, mixing, and mastering, while Niko handled the vocals, lyrics, visuals, etc.

The songs Jaakko introduced were very versatile. Some had speed, some were slow, some painted a picture with their atmosphere, and some were more straightforward bangers. Despite the diversity in style, everything worked exceptionally well in tandem, and from this premise, the band started to develop and pave its own way forward.

To start with, Progeny of Sun created a 6-song self-titled EP and discovered that their music was met with great reception. The duo behind the band did all the mixing, mastering, videos, and artwork themselves. The project as a whole was very fun and rewarding to work on.

After the EP release, Jaakko and Niko began to think that something more was still needed. They still had a burning desire to spread their music around the world, but with just two people, it would have been impossible.

Subsequently, Jaakko found two local musicians from the Seinäjoki area: Joni Kiviniemi (guitar) and Juha Peura (drums). Joni and Juha were initially brought on board just to offer their vision and play their assigned instruments for new material. Soon, however, it began to feel like they were part of the family, and so it was decided that they would become full-fledged members of the squad and a part of the band's story. Not long after, Tuomo Tolkki (bass) was also welcomed to join, and in a matter of a few months, the full lineup was formed.

The first release with the full lineup, a 3-track EP 'Dark Wanderer', was released in 2021. Next in line were the single releases ‘Worthless’ and ‘Anguish’, which were released in 2022. Thanks to the aforementioned experimental phase, Progeny of Sun has gained self-confidence and started to understand its own identity. The band worked hard on the debut album ‘Throne of Desolation’, which was released at the end of 2023. Progeny of Sun's second album 'Prophets of the Void' will be released in September 2025. Following their debut album, the band has identified their strengths, which are utilized and showcased even more prominently on the second album.

A NEW ERA OF BRAZILIAN THRASH BEGINS NOW!

A new force has risen from the ashes of Brazilian thrash. A true heir to the legacy that once launched Sepultura onto the global stage, fueled by the same rage and identity, and forged in the flames of metal giants like Metallica, Slayer, Testament, and Exodus.

The name of this new chapter? No More Death, a project conceived and led by Tiago Torres, founder, guitarist, and vocalist of the now-defunct Mad Dragzter, which between 2001 and 2015 released three albums and earned its place in both Brazilian and international metal scenes.

Driven by razor-sharp riffs, breakneck speed, crushing heaviness, and deep lyrical themes, "The Death is Dead", No More Death’s debut album, is more than just another metal record. It’s a bold manifesto, a raw cry about eternal life, justice, hope, and eschatology.

“Death is the most complex and haunting theme in human history,” says Tiago. “How do we face it? Escape it? Destroy it? Can we live forever? This record says not only yes, it shows how it’s already been done.”

No More Death came to life naturally. Tiago had been carrying a vault of riffs, melodies, and ideas since Mad Dragzter disbanded. “I always knew I’d return to music. It started taking shape in 2024 when we began recording. It wasn’t about trends or what was happening in the scene, because thrash metal is eternal. Old and new fans alike keep it alive,” he explains.

Tiago recorded all guitars, vocals, and bass for the album, staying true to the creative spirit that defined his former band. The album was co-produced by Demis Kohler, who also handled sound engineering, mixing, mastering, and laid down every guitar solo.

“Demis brought both technical brilliance and sensitivity. His solos have melody, precision, and taste. And the overall sound, honestly, it stands toe-to-toe with anything coming out of the US or Europe,” praises Torres.

The influence of Metallica, Slayer, Testament, and Exodus is unmistakable, but it’s blended with the raw emotion and aggressive edge of Brazilian thrash.

“I’ve been listening to thrash for nearly 40 years, it’s in my DNA. Sepultura’s golden era shaped how every Brazilian plays and writes. Add to that Korzus, Ratos de Porão, and the thrash phase of Overdose... all of that went into the blender that became No More Death. Still, our goal is to create something unique. And I think we nailed that with this first album.”

But “The Death is Dead” is just the beginning. The record sets the stage for a larger conceptual arc. Future albums will expand the lyrical narrative, building a connected story across songs and records. “The plan is to keep releasing albums steadily. One big story, told piece by piece,” Tiago reveals.

While the current focus is on studio work, Tiago isn’t ruling out live shows.

“I don’t plan on going back to a 50-shows-a-year grind like Mad Dragzter, but I definitely want to take this to the stage with the right lineup. This album has the power to break borders and shake up the thrash world.”

For Tiago Torres, “The Death is Dead” marks a fresh start. “Brazil has always been a breeding ground for great thrash. The world watches what’s happening here. And I truly believe this record can become a new catalyst, not just for die-hard thrash fans, but for fans of all heavy music. It’s got aggression, speed, power, hooks, melody... And riffs. So many riffs.”

Halifax, Canada’s relentless progressive death metal band Ancient Thrones return with their harrowing sophomore album "Melancholia", dropping September 19th, 2025, a follow-up to 2020’s debut "The Veil". Leading the release is their first single, “A Moon Fused Key”, accompanied by a haunting lyric video that offers a raw glimpse into the album’s psychological abyss.

Formed in 2011 and reborn in 2018 with the arrival of guitarist and composer Dylan Wallace, Ancient Thrones carved out a new identity rooted in fast, extreme, progressive, cinematic, and existential soundscapes. With "Melancholia", the band dives deeper into these sonic philosophies, creating a concept-driven album born out of isolation, trauma, and the need to transform pain into art.

"We think this album is a turning point for us, where we were able to take the atmosphere of our previous record, and kick the aggression up to a thousand. The intention of our last record, "The Veil," was to be poetic and hopeful, but the intention with our second full-length, "Melancholia," is to crush any ounce of hope that is left," adds the band.

​A high-speed, technically savage record written during the first wave of the pandemic. "Melancholia" is packed with themes of hallucination, suicide, and emotional unraveling, inspired by personal experience and psychedelic trauma. Built as a narrative journey, with abstract lyrics and music that flow seamlessly from track to track.

​The writing process started with Wallace churning out riffs in isolation while drummer and vocalist Sean Hickey developed the narrative alongside the music. Their creative synergy resulted in a cinematic tapestry where music evokes visuals, and lyrics deepen the vision. Each track exists as a piece of a larger, emotionally devastating puzzle.

The band meticulously sculpted every sonic detail over five years, dialing in tones and mastering techniques to ensure a pummeling production. Unlike their expansive debut, "Melancholia" tightens its tracklist to accommodate a proper vinyl release, with each song handpicked for impact. Every riff, lead, and vocal layer contributes to an immersive and aggressive listening experience.

“We didn’t plan to write a concept album, but the story began to unfold, and we couldn’t resist,” adds Hickey.

Inviting fans into the haunting world of "Melancholia", Ancient Thrones is unveiling their first single and the album's opening track, “A Moon Fused Key”. Kicking off the record, the track sets the stage for the violent nature about to unfold both musically and lyrically. This is the point of the concept album where the character puts an end to every piece of life in his body. At the end of the song, he sees the hand of god pulling him to heaven, and he severs it. This song is fast, filled with crushing riffs, and sets the tone for what’s to come.

The band comments:

“A Moon Fused Key is the opening track on the album, but also a climax narratively, jumping straight into where hell is unfolding in our character's story. The song begins with unrelenting force and speed, and does not stop until the final bitter moments. We wanted to establish that Melancholia was not just a catchy title for the album; that we intend to tie our audience in a nihilistic, inhuman, terrifying, and brutal end, as the character celebrates their death viciously. This song is a statement in existential exhaustion, where you have no choice but to brace for what’s coming”.

Taking influences from black metal, 2000s death metal, and modern tech death, "Melancholia" reflects the Ancient Thrones' commitment to pushing boundaries in extreme music. Recommended for fans of Archspire, The Red Chord, Deafheaven, and The Faceless.

With UK and international tours already under their belt and an upcoming performance at HRH Festival in 2025 , Voltstorm is ready to dominate the stage. The band is actively adding more national and international dates to their touring schedule.

Band Biographies

John D. Prasec (Vocals) – Known for his powerful vocal range and commanding stage presence, John has previously toured internationally as a solo artist and fronted NWOBHM legends Ritual during their 2014 reunion tour.

Stef Nurra (Guitar) – A skilled guitarist and filmmaker, Stef combines '80s shredding prowess with dark, cinematic melodies . He has headlined festivals such as Loud in London and joined Voltstorm in 2022.

Ben Turner (Bass) – A graduate of BIMM , Ben brings technical finesse and raw energy to Voltstorm’s rhythm section. He has also worked on jazz, rock, indie film scores, and orchestral compositions.

Ivo Yordanov (Drums) – A precise and powerful drummer, Ivo has played in bands such as Skyward and performed at festivals like Power Metal Quest Fest before joining Voltstorm.
