AND NOW THE OWLS ARE SMILING RELEASE "EPITAPH"

PRESS RELEASE:

AND NOW THE OWLS ARE SMILING - EPITAPH

LABEL: CLOBBER RECORDS

RELEASE DATE: SEPTEMBER 2nd 2022

The candle flame burns low and the shadows gather in the corners of my solitary room. They thicken and seem to edge ever closer as the last remnants of wax begin to liquefy and pool upon the table. They hunger for me and I shan’t keep them waiting for much longer. I have thought all my thoughts and recalled every smile and tear. My songs have all been sung. I stare at the last flickering of the light and for a moment I am filled with fear; it floods through me like cold, bitter sea water. And then, with a sibilant hiss the candle dies...and the shadows take me.

All things pass and all dreams eventually end. The black always waits at the end of the road. With the release of their fourth album, Epitaph, And Now The Owls Are Smiling will pass into history. Nre, the artist who has conjured up the heartbreaking sounds of solitude behind ...The Owls... name for the past six years has turned a final page and found this particular story is over. While we will all grieve for the death of this truly special project, we must also celebrate the release of Epitaph, which is surely the most emotionally powerful and utterly captivating release to bear the name of And Now The Owls Are Smiling. Nre has saved his best till last with this beautifully melancholy, enthralling collection of songs. Mournful black metal for the soul shattered and the world weary, songs like ‘The Miserable Grip Of Comfort’ will carry you across seas of tears, under grey, sorrow-painted skies and lead you through lightless forests beneath ancient boughs, bent low with the agony of centuries. Epitaph is the perfect ending for And Now The Owls Are Smiling...it’s impossible to imagine how anything could really follow in the wake of an album laden with the doomed, damned sounds of ‘There Is No Laughter Here’. This is breathtaking emptiness, desolation sculpted from sound, a heart torn open to bleed the black blood of raw emotion and frightening loneliness. The last sounds of this last album come in the form of a superb cover of Radiohead’s ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’, which has been drawn into the chilling twilight mists of the owls and consumed.

It has been an incredible six year journey for And Now The Owls Are Smiling, one which has seen Nre climb from peak to cloud covered peak, finally emerging at the very highest point beneath the black, star dusted heavens with Epitaph. When this offering is made on September 2nd by Clobber Records, clasp it tight your heart and never let it go. The owls will not smile again
