Time heals all wounds they say – and yet mine just keep bleeding. My heart sits silent in my chest, a black and rotten thing, worm infested and dead. I watch the sun pass across the sky, the cold eyes of the stars open in the night…time marches ever on in a sombre, joyless parade and the pain remains in the marrow of my bones; an endless, wearying ache. I exist in a state of inertia, unable to even lift the knife and end this farce. So I wait, a pitiful, broken thing, an affront to the vigour of life, for the night that never gives way to another bitter dawn…
On February 17th the second album from Winds Of Tragedy will be unleashed, a howling black metal storm of despair and isolation. Combining incredible force and power with a chilling sense of hopelessness, Hating Life will flay your flesh and tear your soul to shreds. From the tattered majesty of ‘I Choose To Die’ to the bitter rage unleashed of ‘Living A Lie’, the rain of grief that is ‘No Reason To Go On’ to the looming spectre of ‘Death Love’, Hating Life is a scarring, momentous, emotional experience. Building on the raw intensity of debut album As Life Drifts Away, Sergio González Catalán, the man behind the Winds Of Tragedy name, has taken his dark art to another level. With each note steeped in the grief of personal experience, each word an honest expression of pain, Hating Life will connect to all shattered spirits, lost in the grey lands of mourning. This album is the definitive expression of atmospheric, depressive black metal.
Produced, mixed and mastered by Filippos Koliopanos, noted for his work with Ocean Of Grief and Sergio’s own towering doom metal project Rise To The Sky, Hating Life balances a fierce vibrancy with a soul crushing weight and harrowing emptiness. The unquestionable honesty of Sergio’s music has been embraced by all those who have worked with him on this remarkable album, each bringing a vital element to its final incarnation; be it the perfect sound captured by Filippos Koliopanos, the incredibly expressive and primal drumming laid down by long term collaborator Emidio Alexandre or the haunting photography of Tatiana Lebedeva that adorns the album cover. Hating Life is possessed of a unique spirit, a character formed from shadows and it stands as a flickering beacon in the black, calling to the lost and alone.
