Death metal masters CARCASS, Swedish heavy / power metal beasts HAMMERFALL, Italian gothic / alternative metal band LACUNA COIL and heavy metal singer and composer EDU FALASCHI have been confirmed for the 2024 edition of the Summer Breeze Brasil Festival.
CARCASS: Coming from the city of Liverpool, the land that revealed the Beatles, Carcass can also be considered a pioneer. Not rock'n'roll, of course, but more extreme subgenres of metal, such as goregrind, deathgrind, grindcore and, later, melodic death metal.
The band went through line-up changes, but founders Bill Steer and Jeff Walker remained firm, from the initial formation in 1985 until the split in 1996. In the meantime, Carcass changed the landscape of extreme music with "Reek of Putrefaction". (1988), "Symphonies of Sickness" (1989) and "Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious" (1991), which marked the arrival of Swedish guitarist Michael Amott (currently Arch Enemy, ex-Carnage). Then came the milestones of melodic death metal with "Heartwork" (1993) and "Swansong" (1996). His return to action took place in 2007 and until then produced the albums "Surgical Steel" (2013) and "Torn Arteries" (2021).
Still with Bill Steer (guitar and vocals), Jeff Walker (bass and vocals) and Ken Owen (drums and vocals), he released "Reek of Putrefaction" (1988), an album that featured 22 tracks and just under 40 minutes. Censored, the cover was shocking because it contained disgusting elements – hence, the grindcore and goregrind subgenres.
HAMMERFALL: Promoting the album "Hammer of Dawn" (2022), their twelfth studio album, the Swedish band Hammerfall will present their traditional heavy and power metal at the 2024 edition of Summer Breeze Open Air Brasil. Joacim Cans (vocals), Oscar Dronjak and Pontus Norgren (guitars), Fredrik Larsson (bass) and David Wallin (drums) are used to playing at big events, where they currently deliver new releases such as "Brotherhood", "Hammer of Dawn" and " Venerate Me", and classics like "Let the Hammer Fall", "Hearts on Fire" and "Glory to the Brave". "Heavy metal is universal and everywhere the passion for music is very strong! I have a lot of admiration for South America in general, because since the first time we went to that continent we have always had full support from the fans", he told Roadie Crew magazine Oscar Dronjak, who has been visiting Brazil with the band since 1999.
Created thirty years ago in Gothenburg by Dronjak, the band presents an epic theme in its lyrics, often addressing themes of chivalry, royalty and battles. Their debut, "Glory to the Brave" (1997), was well received and established HammerFall as one of the main metal bands in Europe, especially for focusing on a style that was not popular at the time. The following year, "Legacy of Kings" was released, which helped to consolidate the group's position, as well as "Renegade" (2000) and "Crimson Thunder" (2002). Even though they went through changes, Oscar Dronjak and Joacim Cans managed to regroup the band with members who kept the style and feel intact. Thus, albums like "Threshold" (2006), "No Sacrifice, No Victory" (2009), "Infected" (2011), "(r)Evolution" (2014), "Built to Last" (2016), "Dominion " (2019) and "Hammer of Dawn" (2022) continued to impact and show the band's strength in the metal scene.
LACUNA COIL: formed in a golden era for power and prog metal in Italy, emerged in Milan from Sleep of Right. A crucial change occurred when Cristina Scabbia was invited to contribute vocals, transforming the band's sound, which changed its name to Ethereal and caught the attention of Century Media. Already as Lacuna Coil, their first EP came in 1998 and the rise continued with "In a Reverie" (1999), "Unleashed Memories" (2001) and the watershed, "Comalies" (2002), which introduced a more heavy and dynamic. Hits like "Heaven's A Lie" and "Swamped" raised their international reputation, while the band stood out at Ozzfest in the USA.
Over the years, the band went through changes and released works that kept it in the spotlight, such as "Karmacode" (2006), "Shallow Life" (2010) and "Dark Adrenaline" (2012). In 2022, after "Black Anima" (2019), Lacuna Coil revisited their classic material and released "Comalies XX", a tribute to the album that marked their career, with updated versions of the songs. Lacuna Coil has been playing frequently in Brazil since 2010, but their presence at the 2024 edition of Summer Breeze Open Air Brasil will be their first at a festival.
EDU FALASCHI: renowned vocalist and composer Edu Falaschi, accompanied by his super band, with Roberto Barros and Diogo Mafra (guitars), Raphael Dafras (bass), Aquiles Priester (drums) and Fábio Laguna (keyboards), will perform at the Summer Breeze Open Air Brasil promoting the album "Eldorado". This is the second part of a conceptual trilogy that narrates the saga of the character Jorge, continuing the story of "Vera Cruz" (2021). "Eldorado" mixes historical elements, fiction and Latin, flamenco and Aztec influences, providing a musical journey through the eras of Latin culture. Falaschi, also known for his time with Angra, with whom he recorded the classics "Rebirth" (2001) and "Temple of Shadows" (2004), already had a rich musical history before that with Symbols, Venus and Mitrium. His solo career is also notable, with several albums released, as well as notable work with Almah. Throughout his career, he demonstrated his versatility and vocal abilities, including the Brazilian version of "Pegasus Fantasy" and "Blue Forever", from the series Os Cavaleiros do Zodiaco. With "Eldorado", Falaschi continues to expand his musical horizons and captivate diverse audiences with his unique and engaging music.
