"Born Among the Ruins", is the debut album from anonymous solo metal project, ASHLAR. Written, recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by one man in a living room somewhere in New Jersey, "Born Among the Ruins" is a concept album of sorts, and the first in a trilogy of albums to come. Set against the backdrop of the dark age of a lost civilization, it tells the story of a once-powerful magician haunted by the memory of the mistakes of his past lives, and of his journey to find redemption, reconciliation, and become the master of his own fate. Ultimately, it deals with themes of the decline of civilizations, reincarnation, fate, and facing one's own inner demons. In a genre known for dealing with darkness and death, "Born Among the Ruins" faces them head on while heading towards the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. As it has been before, "If you're going through hell, keep going".
