Prepare for a seismic shift in the death metal scene as Maatkare announces the release of their highly anticipated debut album, "Rise To Power," on October 18, 2024. This all-female band is breaking new ground with their fusion of melodic death metal and ancient Egyptian themes, making their mark alongside genre heavyweights like Arch Enemy, Nile, and Behemoth.
"Rise To Power" is more than just a collection of tracks; it’s an odyssey through ancient conflicts and legendary strength, all told through the raw, aggressive lens of melodic death metal. Building on the success of singles like "War Before Peace," "May The Gods Bear Witness," and "Black Death," this album promises to deliver a powerful blend of historical depth and intense musicality. With its thematic focus on conflict, power, and legacy, the album showcases Maatkare’s unique approach to death metal, intertwining fierce musical expression with the rich narratives of ancient Egypt.
Founded in March 2020, Maatkare stands as a formidable force in a male-dominated genre. Named after Pharaoh Hatshepsut’s royal title, the band is dedicated to channeling the strength and mystique of ancient Egyptian history through their music. Featuring Janneke de Rooy (Beyond the Pale) on vocals, Georgia Bell (Ex Pretty Little Enemy, Harper session guitarist) on guitar, and Amie Chatterley (Dakesis, WomenOwar) on bass, Maatkare is joined by talented drummer Kirsten Shaw. Their powerful blend of melodic and brutal death metal is matched by their dedication to showcasing the untold stories of powerful women throughout history.
Maatkare’s music is a tribute to the greats of death and black metal, with influences from Nile, Scarab, Behemoth, Arch Enemy, and Kataklysm. Their sound combines raw aggression with deep historical themes, creating a unique and compelling listening experience. Tracks like "War Before Peace" explore ancient battles, while "Rise To Power" has already made waves, amassing over 13,000 streams in just three weeks.
With "Rise To Power" set to drop on October 18, 2024, Maatkare is also gearing up for a UK and EU tour in 2025. This tour will mark their first extensive live performances, further establishing their presence in the global death metal scene.
