In early 2026, the New York-based black/death metal project Amenspear (led by sole member, Steve Vathis) plans on releasing the “Ego’s Carrion” EP. Over three tracks, Amenspear pays tribute to its old school death metal heroes like Death, Morbid Angel, and Dismember. This combined with Amenspear’s previous black metal influences and unique sense of melody and song structure leads to a crushing and epic death metal journey. And the lyrics lend themselves well to that journey, with the songs describing a loosely conceptual tale of a man falling into the abyss of the occult and his own dark urges and struggling to get free of them and turn towards the light.
